Football Snap Judgments: Instant analysis of Wisconsin 24, Nebraska 17 (OT)

Wisconsin 24, Nebraska 17 (OT)

>> 3 straight one-score losses
>> 3 straight losses to reeling teams
>> 7 straight OT losses
>> 10 straight losses to Wisconsin

Instant reaction from Madison as another Huskers loss spoiled Chubba Purdy's QB1 debut:

Northwestern

Not gonna lie, it is pretty damn painful looking at a team with zero reason to even have 2 wins, much less 6. and bowl eligible with a week left in the season.

They were 1-11 last year (yep, we were their lone win in Ireland), lost their coach, a bunch of players, and are somehow 6-5 with wins over Maryland, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Not even sure Northwestern fans even know the name of their coach, but David Braun has to be a lock for B10 Coach of the Year.

Game Theory Analysis of Sat and our Shit Offense

I played poker as a core job in college. Became pretty good. It's all psychological.

The concept of game theory goes like this:

1) I will make a decision, based on the decision I think you will make (you go left, I go right)
2) I I make a decision, knowing you will make a decision based on my decision, so I make another decision (I'm likely to go left, you go right, so I go left)
3) I make a decision, knowing you know I will make a decision based on the decision I think you will make based on my decisioin, so I make another decision

Sats calls tonight showed he is so far ****ing off from a game theory type OC....

Option on 1st and 10 OT needing a touchdown to "tie"? Where the **** did Wisconsin think you would run option to get you to level 2?

Bullshit call of double reverse pass when the defense wasn't even expecting it, they were just playing zone fits based on typical run fits. They didn't even fall into a 2, why tf even run the play? there was no surprise

He's an absolute garbage play caller. There are 130 college teams that have an OC, and maybe 10% of OCs are actually clever and competent. I have a sample size now.

Hire a ****ing real OC for God's sake.

Did Uncle T pay off Stalions home?

Uncle T is a dude on a Wolverine message board that is believed to have funded the surveillance scheme run by Conor Stalions

This apparently included a fake Amazon store front

This poster is wondering how Stalions could have paid off his house making 55k a year

Could be BS

No idea if true but I always wondered who was paying for all these tickets and trips.

Tim Smith has been accused of being Uncle T but he denies it

The Big Ten presented evidence to UM that included a boosters involvement and of course the LB coach destroying evidence

UM did a complete about face after the hearing

The weight of it has returned . . .

I had hope that we'd be bowl eligible after the Purdue game, yet in the back of my mind, there was the feeling that it may come down to Black Friday. And now it has. I have felt all kinds of emotions, going to games in person since '99. I never thought it would be as bad as two years ago, but that heavy zombie like apathy is returning. I'm worried that if we should lose in the Nebraska way on Friday, that it will be the worst post-loss hangover yet.

Football Postgame Notes: Nebraska at Wisconsin

Postgame Notes - Nebraska at Wisconsin

- Wisconsin's win was its 10th straight in the series and improved the Badgers to 13-4 all-time against Nebraska, including a 7-1 mark in Madison

- NU, which lots its seventh straight overtime game, fell to 8-8 in overtime games. The Huskers lost in overtime for the second time in their past four trips to Madison (also in 2016)

- Quarterback Chubba Purdy earned the start in tonight's game, marking Nebraska's third starting quarterback of the season, joining Heinrich Haarberg (8 starts) and Jeff Sims (2 starts). This is the first time Nebraska has used three starting quarterbacks in a season since 2013 (Tommy Armstrong Jr., Taylor Martinez, and Ron Kellogg III.)

- Purdy opened the scoring with a 55-yard touchdown run on the opening drive, giving Nebraska three TD runs of 50 yards or more by quarterbacks this season, one by each of the three starters.

- Purdy accounted for a Nebraska season-high 274 yards of total offense (previous high was Heinrich Haarberg with 264 total yards vs. Louisiana Tech). Purdy completed 15-of-23 passes for 169 yards and one touchdown and had 14 carries for 105 yards and a touchdown. He posted his first career 100-yard rushing game

- Nebraska scored 14 points in the first quarter tonight, after entering the game with 13 first quarter points this season

- Nebraska held Wisconsin scoreless in the first quarter, marking the seventh time in 11 games Nebraska has shut out its opponent in the first quarter in 2023. Nebraska has not allowed a first quarter touchdown in six consecutive games and has allowed just 23 first quarter points this season

- Freshman receiver Jaylen Lloyd caught a 58-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, marking his second touchdown of the season. Both of his TDs have covered more than 50 yards, with his first TD a 73-yard touchdown against Purdue

- Bryce Benhart made his 40th career start in tonight's game, all at right tackle. Benhart is the third offensive lineman in school history to make 40 career starts, joining Jeremiah Sirles (41) and Brenden Jaimes (40)

- Senior receiver Billy Kemp IV caught eight passes for 43 yards, setting a season high in receptions, bettering his five catches against both Colorado and Louisiana Tech

- Senior running back Anthony Grant rushed 12 times for 45 yards in the game. His 45 rushing yards gave Grant 1,324 rushing yards at Nebraska, moving him into the top 50 on the Husker career rushing list

- Nebraska recorded two sacks in the game, giving the Huskers 31 sacks on the season. This is the first time Nebraska has had 30 sacks in a season since 2013

- Safety Marques Buford Jr. finished with a career-high 10 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss. The TFL total ties his career high, which he set last week against Maryland

- Nebraska scored in its 350th consecutive game, dating back to 1996. This is just the seventh time in FBS history that a team has scored in 350 consecutive games

- Wisconsin's third quarter touchdown run was the first against Nebraska since Michigan, ending a streak of five straight games without allowing a rushing touchdown

- Tonight's game captains were PK Timmy Bleekrode, C Ben Scott, DL Ty Robinson, and LB Luke Reimer

The problem all year.

IMO, the main problem tonight, and all season for that matter, is that we lacked a QB who can sustain drives with accurate and timely passing. When we get QB who can do that (and Chubba may someday be that QB) we will be a winning football team. Without such a QB, the OC is playing the game with one hand tied behind his back. Considering that we lacked such a QB all year . it's remarkable that we still have a chance to go to a bowl game.

We need to bring in an experienced passer via the portal and let our current QBs compete with him for the starting job.
