The Offense: 2023 vs 2024

Haarberg started 8 games for us last year, but really only played 7 since he went out so early against Maryland.
DR has started 8 games for us this year.

here's how they and the offenses compare:

HH - 49% completions, 1,444 total yards, 12 total TDs, 7 INTs (7 games)
DR - 66.1% completions, 1,686 total yards, 9 total TDs, 7 INTs (8 games)

the offense is averaging 24ppg compared to 22ppg last year during HH's starts
the offense is averaging 358ypg compared to 317ypg last year during HH's starts

pretty similar numbers. by far the biggest improvement is in fumbles lost, but that really hasn't translated to more points.

W/L record is the same.

I was pretty surprised to see how similar our production has been this year compared to last year's ragtag bunch.
Same OL. Similar results.

One thing that has remained constant - the OC.

checking in on these with 4 games to go

DR's current stats & pace:

Passing Yards - 1,744, on pace for 2,616 - UNDER pace, but close
Passing TDs - 9, on pace for 14 - pacing way UNDER
Rushing Yards - -58, on pace for -87 - pacing way, way UNDER
Rushing TDs - 0, on pace for 0 - pacing way, way UNDER
I have to check but I know I did unders in rushing yards...but I think I also took over in passing yards.

SIAP....The 1000 pound Gorilla in the room...

I disagree with the take that many players don't care about playing in a bowl game, unless it's a bowl game that could lead to a national title.

I think most of these players realize that their college years are the end of the road for playing football, most won't ever sniff an NFL roster. Playing a team sport can feel uniquely satisfying. Going on a trip together, and making those memories, is something they'll always cherish.

Yeah... there's softball & bowling leagues after they enter the work force, but it ain't the same.
