Who's excited for the bowl game?

I'm always excited about Nebraska football. I'm always excited to watch us play no matter the record.

Bowl games are traditional parts of the Holidays as well

Bowl games are just exhibition games that don't mean anything unless you are in the playoffs. Everyone knows that.

Nebraska had a streak of like 40 consecutive bowl games, but I don't know why anyone cared because they weren't consecutive playoff appearances so who cares.

Nebraska fans travel well to bowl games because they don't realize that they are just dumb exhibition games. Stupid Nebraska fans.

Not even sure why anyone cares. Hell, the regular season is basically just a bunch of exhibition games if you think about it. Dumb Nebraska fans throwing away money and have a consecutive sellout streak for no reason.

If you don't make the playoffs, you shouldn't have even played the season. What a waste of time. Why is there a Husker Board again?

Did I do that right? Smokin

If the Oline is in better health, maybe Ryker can move the chains and the D can do enough so that we can win this thing.
Would be nice to send the seniors out with a win.
PS-Nate leaves the program in a punk-like manner. My wish applies to the others.

For about 20 of those years, there was only about 6-8 Bowl games played.... Only 12-16 teams played in a bowl game. That was and still is an impressive streak!! Only NU has that record, NO ONE else!!

I was preparing my rebuttal right up to the end. Nice job. Winking

How dare you. Dont you know we have no chance? Dont you know that guy we blame everything for is hurt so we have no chace??

No Westy. No Gerry. Very likely No Armstrong. No Bryant. No Moore. I'll be excited as hell if Nebraska can actually pull it off.

Drew Brown has the field goals covered...however, I am going to be excited if Nebraska scores a touchdown!! Winking

Very worried.
Bought tickets and plan to be at the game with my family.
Tn is ready to roll and Sec fans get nasty.

I was pretty unexcited about our bowl game last year, but this level of un-excitement is even lower than that. If we somehow manage to win, and end up 10-3 then I'll be excited for a couple of days, but this game looks like it has 52-17 written all over it, and that's assuming we pick up a score or two in garbage time. Hope I'm wrong. I REALLY hope I'm wrong. I cannot get the Iowa game out of my head, and Tennessee >>>> Iowa

I hate it when the Huskers play on my birthday...hoping for a good outcome, but this one has LOSS written all over it.

Tennessee's defense sucks. This game will be on the defense.
With Armstrong, Westerkamp out and our backs beat up, the Vols defense will probably look like the '85 Bears!!! Lol. Unfortunately, I think we're gonna be lucky to keep this game within 3 touchdowns. Sucks because we REALLY need some positive news as we close on this recruiting class.

If I'm free and its on, I will watch. That's about it. I wont go out of my way to see it.

Based on some of the comments around here lately about our upcoming exhibition game against Tennessee, I would say Saban nailed it.

And if the playoff goes to 8, and yes I know he already said it, then you can pretty much forget about every single bowl isn't included in that playoff. Nobody will care. Alabama and Auburn won't mean a damn thing at the end, same for OSU & Michigan because they'll already have their playoff spot wrapped up and you'll see coaches resting kids towards the end of the season. Expand to 16 and you'll see programs start to turn down bowl invites because the school will have to eat millions in tickets they'll never sell.

Is this how you feel about basketball ???

Not excited about beating an SEC school in their own backyard ?
Not excited about getting the bad taste of that Iowa loss out of your mouth ?
Not excited about an early look @ what the 2017 huskers will look like?
Not excited about watching Nebraska football?

Really? What would you rather do? Type on this message board about all the doom and gloom crap that comes up in your mind about this program.

I wish I had 4 thumbs, so I could give this post and all it's replies 4 thumbs down. You all sound like a bunch of high school drama queens. We get to watch our huskers play a final game this season, and that doesn't excite you? Don't freaking watch then. No one is making you.

And why? Because some players are hurt? And to say a bowl game is only a glorified exhibition is freaking retarded. Every single game for teams that don't win titles could be classified as just that. Every game. How is this game any different than the Oregon game? In hindsight, the Oregon was "pretty meaningless", right? Just watch for the dam love of the game or GTFO. There is plenty of room for that at other schools.

So the number of bowls greatly expanded; some say in a money and self promotion grab - we in some way owe them an existence ?? None of these opinions are yours; I would like your opinion. Should we go back to just 3 network stations, or evolve and go where the demand is even more down the road - similar to bowls??

Wonder how many felt last year, if they skipped watching the UCLA game;
where we were supposed to get run and had a less impressive record.

Everything I wrote is my opinion and I've been saying it on this very board for a while so I'm not following.

Exactly, that was a fun game to watch. Really, all of our bowl games for a while have been pretty exciting. Worst Bowl losses in recent memory? UGA 2013, which was actually tied going into the 4th Q. Game Cocks 2012? We were winning and appeared to be in control of the game until the half time hail marry to Alshon Jeffery. You really got to go back to the 2002 Rose Bowl to find a Bowl games that the huskers weren't at least competitive.

I love bowl games. Some of the best husker memories are bowl games and not even the ones for titles. Remember the 2005 Alamo Bowl? What a crazy finish... The last 3 bowl games have actually been freaking amazing. I believe many analyst picked the Holiday Bowl against USC in 2014 as the bowl game of the year (outside of the play-off). That was a great game to watch. Bowl games are a different animal. Fun as hell to watch and I don't get to worked up if we lose close games. I just love watching us play - "one more time"

That's actually a great example of what Saban was talking about. UCLA didn't want to be there and played like it.

I respectfully disagree with most of what you typed, but respect your opinion and I'm glad the bowl brings you something to look forward to. I have no problem with the bowl, it just doesn't appeal to me much this season for a variety of reasons but I'm glad others enjoy it, and I will never tell somebody to GTFO if they have a different opinion than me on it. But to each their own.

I will watch the game because I am a rabid Husker fan and have been for 50 years.

I watched every game at Memorial Stadium from 1969-1972. I never had a ticket. I climbed the fence with my friends and watched the games from under the end zone.
My dad took me to Norman for the 71 game of the century.
I was there in Miami after the 83 season and had my heart broken
I was there in Miami after the 94 season and was euphoric.
I was there in 78 when the goal posts came down vs OU
I was part of the "red out" in South Bend
You get the picture....
And yet I am not that interested in this bowl game. Perhaps someone can help me explain why without calling my status as a "true fan" into question

My memories of Husker football run back almost 40 years. I've never not been excited to watch my favorite team. If you ever are not excited to watch your team, then I wonder-what's the point in even being a fan? Your team is on the field playing, you should be excited to watch them. You would think somebody who spends time on a message board would be the type who are the most passionate fans, but I wonder if that's really the case with some people on here. It seems like some people are more the "cultural fan" type-the type that says they are a Husker fan just to fit in with the culture in Nebraska, but don't really care that much. Or love to be on here just to complain incessantly to try to ruin everybody else's fun as much as possible. Either way, the petulant whining and complaining on here has really gotten old-and probably about as worse relative to the actual success of the team as I've ever seen it.

Well now, turns out there is some passion for the game. It's good to see. I'll be parked in front of the TV, of course. Just wanted someone to spin out some excitement. Doesn't seem like there is much buzz, 1 week out from our game. Gbr.

This is intended for Pennsyhusker. I'll watch the bowl game, the whole game no matter what. This year in particular has marked a turning point for me. I'm considering to keep up hope but abandon expectations. It's just been such a long time and we just keep coming up short. I have zero control on how many games we win or lose, I have 100% control on how much I want to enjoy a season.

I too will watch. And I share the same feelings you express in the rest of the post

I was at the 78 game and South Bend as well, did you see me? I was wearing red. Did you happen to make the Penn St hatefest at Happy Valley also? I was there too.

Maybe you are just getting jaded as you get older. Do other things you used to get excited about no longer have much meaning like Christmas, seeing your wife after being apart for awhile, the first snowfall, the first warm day of spring? If so, there is your answer. If not, then it reflects on your relationship to Nebraska football and only you can answer that question.

I was at the hatefest at PSU in 2002. Went there with a friend who is a huge PSU fan. Worst fans I have ever met. You were there? Ha. Too bad for both of us.
I still enjoy everything in life. And your response is just so typical. Sorry but it is. Geez. So unless I AM EXCITED FOR EVERY HUSKER GAME WITHOUT EXCEPTION, then I am just a jaded old man who has lost his love for Husker football? Or as Truehuskerfan suggested above maybe I am just a "cultural fan"? You guys crack me up. I take a back seat to no one when it comes to loving Husker football. But the OP asked if people are excited for this bowl game. I answered honestly. I was very excited for last year's game. But not this year. Of course I will watch ... and cheer loudly. But I think I am expecting us to be beaten soundly and that kind of robs me of excitement.
Sorry if that makes me a jaded old man

As long as we're sharing...I wasn't excited for the OSU game either, and 100% of that was because I knew we were going to get our clock cleaned on primetime TV again and I don't like watching executions, but I got over it that night and didn't let it ruin a minute of my life. Hope that doesn't make me less of a fan. I fear we'll make Tennessee look like Alabama next Friday, and if the same team that showed up for Iowa shows up for the bowl game, then can the argument be made the team has reaped what it has sewn in terms of lackluster support for this game? I'm just asking, I'm not telling anyone else how to feel. Nebraska looked to me like they totally gave up last time they played, hope they don't do that again, if you were a Husker fan that paid money and went to that Iowa game, I'd have felt ripped off.
