Let me start by saying Coach Frost needs more time but I have several things I can’t wrap my head around when it comes to our program

1. Why the stubbornness of not bringing on a real quarterback who can throw. Am is a good athlete but can’t seem to throw with accuracy constantly. If he hasn’t got it by now it’s not gonna happen. Luke is truly in my opinion a wr /slot back. His mechanics seem to be way off and doesn’t have velocity or accuracy to be a major college qb. He is young so he could improve. We need someone in the program who is a true qb to push both current guys.
2. Why does frost love the big backs. I truly believe we need a guy who is fast who can put his foot in the ground and go. We haven’t had a guy like that since Ahman.
3. Again. What is this team’s identity? What can we do well? Not much that I see right now. I hope we can be a running team that is good at play action. It’s tough to do that though when your qb is running for his life or can’t hit open receivers.

scotts plan isn’t currently working. Yet I see him consistently doing it over and over and not acknowledging it isn’t working. You have to change variables to fix this equation. Do something uncomfortable to your planned system because what you are doing now doesn’t seem to work in environment you are in.

thanks for letting me vent I wish nothing but the best for him and program. Just frustrated at seeing no progress and lack of necessary adjustment to fix problems that he has in his plans.

my father said never complain lest you offer a solution to the issue.

my suggestions
1. Transfer Qb who at minimum is a game manager. Makes few mistakes and is able to hit receivers accurately for most common routes.
2. Run the ball with actual rb’s. Not a qb who runs. Pound ball, run clock. Occasionally throw play action passes
3. Have to take deep shots down the field. I watched every game and last two games I saw at least 8-9 guys in the box because there was no fear we could throw. Have to make defense at least think we can throw.

thanks for letting me suggest/vent. I have hope this can be turned around

Have to hope better OL play and an I back that can get some yards will give AM more time and get rid of the yips and tendency to get beat up so much.

stepp seems like a nice big back but from videos I saw he keeps getting caught from behind. Allures to my frosty loves bigger slow backs for some reason. I’ll steal a line from Rocky movie. “We need greasy chicken speed”. If you can catch a chicken your fast enough to fight. Speed is what’s we needz!

1. Two QBs plus LM is in the system. You have to really recruit and very few are successful.
Hopeful, N keeps landing qb's.
Also, Guess what. So does all the other college programs. Every program is looking for that guy at QB.

2. Similar to Number 1. N is trying to land those studs that fit your description. Plus, we have two or three on the roster.
To get these players you have to get the 1st, 2nd or maybe 3rd on the list. Can N finally do this?

3. You have to have a QB who can execute, get receivers the ball and have players who can stretch the defense.
We had neither last year accept for Wandale.
One player will not cut it!
Better be recruit recruit recruit!!!

I realize no one on this board will care, but the second it becomes common knowledge that Frost is trolling the portal for a QB the top three guys on our roster will be reconsidering their options. Not saying Frost shouldn't do it anyway, but I think OP and a lot of others totally discount how difficult it is to manage the roster and all the egos involved. Everyone thinks that Drew Brees is just waiting for us in the portal and Frost is too dumb to go get him but it's highly unlikely that is the case.

Both of these transfers came out of blue in the last day or two. I suspect they will keep their options open for quarterbacks too, especially if McCaffrey is transferring. This the most fluid time in college football history. This will be a crazy transfer year, like free agency in professional sports!!

Agree it's a crazy time, and I'm sure Frost is doing his due diligence on all of the names. I've read the list of who is available, and other than Terry Wilson no one is knocking my socks off. Just a bunch of no-name retreads.

What is protocol? Declare for portal and then go shopping Or reach out to schools with your intention to transfer?

#1, do you honestly think Frost isn’t begging quarterbacks who can throw the ball to sign with NU? It’s really not easy to get a top 20 throwing QB to come here!

#2 He has recruited small backs. No Washington was 165 lb. Wan’Dale 180. They all are getting killed in the big 10. Small backs won’t last two games.

I never said or asked for a top 20 Qb. I asked for at a minimum a game manager who was accurate

2. I never asked for smallbacks. I asked for speed!! He needs to start promising someone they can start. Otherwise we are doomed to mediocrity with recruits. Other coaches do it all the time.

I have no doubt that there's back channel recruiting going on before guys declare their intent to transfer. It absolutely happened with Gebbia.

Terry Wilson would be a downgrade from Adrian IMO. Not interested. The backup from Miami (Perry) looked good in the bowl game when King got hurt. Throws a really nice accurate ball and is quick enough to use his feet. Nice player.

#2 Umm...Roy Helu was pretty damn fast. Do you remember the game in 2010 where he torched Missouri?
Helu was listed on Rivals I think at 4.9 on the 40 coming out of high school. People lost their minds when Callahan signed him. Turns out that time I think was from between his freshman and sophomore year of high school. I think he ran a 4.5 at the combine. 40 times can be improved dramatically with coaching on your starts and form. The thing about Helu was that he was football fast. Man he exploded through holes.

I agree, I would have preferred the Buffalo back honestly. Nice combination of speed and size. I don't get the obsession with huge backs either. They rarely work out that well, especially if you're counting on them as your featured back.

I still think Helu is the best back we've had since the 90s. You could see it in his freshman year that the dude was way underrated coming in.

You lost me here... Ameer Abdullah was "arguably" better than Ahman.
Wow. I almost don’t know how to respond to that. In my opinion ameer isn’t a 1/3 of the back Ahman green was. I think Ameer was a good solid player but not to Ahman level. Maybe I’m biased but have seen both play up close. Ahman was so fast. Maybe it was because I was 3 rows off field and on 45 yard line. Super close. Ie I’ll never see them that close up again.

Both good players, but only one was a game changer, and that was Green. Green was also extremely productive in the NFL. Ameer, so so.

Back in the day you’d drive to Omaha and just talk the kid back!

lol... put Ameer on the mid 90's teams and put Ahman on the Ameer teams and I guarantee to would not say no way. Ameer was a great back just like Ahman, to put Ameer as a 1/3 of the back Ahman was is a joke. To be clear I never said Ameer is better than Ahman, just clarifying that Ameer was "since Ahman".

I’m not sure. I don’t know if college football has a tampering rule.
Once they enter their names into the portal, any school can contact them and/or they can contact any school. That's the purpose of the portal. Tampering only comes into play if the student-athlete is not in the portal.

Yeah. Sorry still feel no way. Ahman > ameer in every way. No contest in my opinion but opinions vary.

No question Ameer on the 90s teams would have looked great, but the big thing for me is what they did after leaving nebraska. Ahman started at both places he played in the NFL and has really good stats. Ameer was demoted after being given every chance to succeed in Detroit and is now 3rd string and a kick return specialist for the Vikings.

I know you aren’t saying Ameer is better, but I don’t believe the two are comparable, to be quite honest. Ameer just doesn’t have what Ahman had.

You put Ameer on those teams and he rides the pine. End of discussion

LOL. Why would Smothers and Haarberg peace out if someone came in and would be gone by the time they're sophomores at the latest? I can see AM leaving if someone came in and beat him out in the spring. The other 2 aren't going anywhere, they both in essence will be RSFr in 2022.

All this QB speculation is way out of hand. 1. Like someone else mentioned, no one knows if Luke has even been approached by Frost. 2. Luke will be a RSFr next year, so everyone is ruling out the possibility he can't develop further as a thrower in the next 2 years? Including Luke himself?

I was afraid to say what u said. Didn’t want to offend but since u said it. Yep he doesn’t ever see field maybe as punt or kick returner or other special teams. He isn’t better than lp, Ahman, even Damon benning. Ok maybe better or equal to Damon bit 3rd string at best

LOL indeed - I'm not great at math but top three wouldn't include Haarberg would it? And Smothers probably wouldn't leave, but if you think he'd be thrilled to see Frost looking for a QB in the portal you haven't been paying attention to P5 football lately.

The QB speculation isn't out of hand because A) our QB's have sucked, and B) we need to win NOW. I'm just saying I don't think our savior is out there waiting for us.
