These 2 old transfer rules from years ago might slow down players from entering the transfer portal that the ncaa needs to reinstate. The mandatory 1 year sit out. If a player transfers within the conference loss of year eligibility mandatory sit out year. This goes for all sports. If a player wants to play right away needs a waiver to play right away.

The NCAA would be immediately sued and would lose. The lawsuits are what got college sports to this point to begin with

If the kids want to be paid and essentially be professional players (instead of having amateur status), then the need to be signing nfl style contracts with stipulated lengths, behavior standards and performance clauses. Can’t have it both ways like it is now if it’s going to be sustainable for the sport. I have no problem with players being paid and treated better, but it has to cut both ways to protect programs and the sport.

Let’s face it. College football as we once knew it is dead. It is no longer amateur athletics. It is a huge money making business and the players finally want full freedom and a big chunk of the financial pie. It is only a matter of time before the NCAA allows schools to just start paying players directly. Then the bidding wars will start. The ONLY thing that will stop this process from steaming right along is an end to the half billion dollar TV deals with conferences. The financial gravy train is totally tied to TV rights. Merchandising rights, ticket sales, and donations are a distant second.

Nailed it. It’s turning into nfl G league with the branding and tradition of college football. Something has to change. There are no rules. Zero. This isn’t the nfl. This is anarchy and it won’t turn out well if they don’t figure out how to control it. There’s no salary caps. No contracts for players. No enforced rules against tampering. None of the safe guard protecting the nfl are in place. People will lose interest and the house of cards will come down if they don’t step up and protect the game

Right now the entire college sports apparatus is in danger of losing millions because of the current situation. That Orange Bowl serves as a warning of what is to come if the NCAA can't bring some sanity back. I question in what if any scenario a waiver is EVER necessary for a player. A coaching change, etc doesn't mean you can't transfer and sit out a year.
Georgia disciplined the baseball player that made the comment about Fields and it was obvious that Fields was well protected and in an environment that was 'safe'. Fields only motivation was to move to a situation where he could be the number one QB on a championship calibre team immediately, The NCAA would likely have easily won that lawsuit. Sometimes you have to suck it up and accept the potential risk of a lawsuit.

There is no "risk" of lawsuits -- they have been filed for the past 10 years. The NCAA loses. There is one hope for sanity -- an antitrust exemption from Congress. And that is not likely, at least in the near term.
