Here's the corollary that should scare all of us: in the military basic training DI's would scream, insult and harass recruits to make them willing to charge up a hill under fire. Not now. In basic/boot, the recruits are able to report a DI who is demeaning to them, and the DI gets counseled and told to back off. God help us all.
I've posted this before, but I listened to a former NFL head coach comment on why coordinators kept getting recycled after being fired from jobs. He said, "calling plays is a unique talent that few coaches have" so guys who can do it get rehired. When you get to the NFL level there's quite a few who can do it, but they don't all have the same weapons as the other guys. In college there's a lot of guys who are calling plays that are just calling plays. Osborne was manipulating the defense with his play calling.I have more faith that McGuire can learn to be a good OC. Than Satt.

Probably true, but if you have a guy who has relationships with our WR recruits and current roster AND he now knows how you want them coached, it might be okay to keep him on board. I'm not invested in him staying or going. I'm just offering a different view.Usually you would babysit the GA's, not the position coach.
It’s less about what Holgerson wants, as anything NU pays Houston doesn’t. It’s really more about wants to do. Given the young talent, NU has a good chance of keeping him in Lincoln should he want to go big conference OC to re-enter the coaching ranks. They wanted him out of WVU a couple of years before he left, and Houston was a flame out for him. He probably isn’t a big program HC.For next season, the TE group will have Flint and Ingwerson added to the mix. WRs will hopefully add Bell from his injuries, along with Hall, McMorris, Lloyd, Keelan, Jacory, plus maybe a portal WR or two.
I do like the potential, especially if we keep Holgorsen.
after the bowl game the primary focus should be in retaining DH and giving him whatever he wants. Frankly, we can’t afford to lose him… as some have mentioned, I don’t know if we will get so lucky the next time around

Even when they don't make that great block, there will always be something to say about giving a maximum effort. DH is instilling the right frame of mind.
Unrelated, but even on that early swing pass to Jacori, Scott at Center fires off the ball and just misses blocking the LB on the backside, but continues to sprint upfield and still become part of the play. We haven't seen that kind of effort in forever. It's a mindset now.
He seems like a guy that goes balls to the walls weeks on end and then crashes. We need to give him plenty of time to decompress at strategic times during the year to avoid burnout. Not disagreeing. I’m just saying that the new OC has set the standard now and he may like how our WR coach and his charges have responded to his demands. There’s lots of employers who are happy employing young people willing to accept how they want things done (me for one). The worst professional I ever hired was a guy with a doctorate who played guard for the ISU football team. He had been out of school a for about 5 years and thought he knew everything and could do whatever he wanted. Awful. He cost me tens of thousands of dollars. His wife who also worked for me finally said they had to quit because she couldn’t work with him…. Make Dana the highest paid offensive assistant in college football and we make that decision a lot harder and perhaps hold off the desire for him to pursue a head coaching position. It also makes the position much more attractive for potential suitors should there come the need.Bolded. I've been thinking of this. OL is a unit that's impacted by coaching more than any other position group. In most circumstances, the expectation should be that assistant coaches get 2 years to prove they're worth a shit.3 years with HIS recruits means you're not going to judge him until after he's been here for 4 years (following the '25 season).

I think it proves Holgersen is an offensive genius more than anything, while Donovan is a mediocre assistant who is only as good as the guy above him. The offensive line has looked light years better the last two weeks. That's completely due to DH's influence.I get what you're saying, I really do, and I think that while the line has improved in pass pro, it sucks balls in the run game. Part of my point is that in two games DH has game planned/raised hell with all the offense, and the line has looked better since he arrived. It's too early to tell if his presence on the team and his play calling has improved the line. But if the line looks really good the next two games (and this is the point I was trying to make) then you could argue that the mediocre line play was due to Satt's game plan and in-game play calling, not Donovan's coaching.

It was always there. Dana said right away after a few practices that he was pleasantly surprised with our O line. He liked their pad level and technique. I’ve heard zero criticism from him about the O line other than the screwed up snap counts which it sounds like we’re on our center. If Dana stays, I'm on board for whatever coaches are retained. Maybe Dana loves that total hands on approach as a OC? It looks like those coaches are gonna comply (or try) to comply with whatever Dana is demanding. It definitely looks like a lot players have bought into Dana's method of teaching and expectations.
