Unfortunately found out this weekend that a very nice lady I know lost her daughter in the DC crash. Very bright young woman. Incredibly sad situation as she saw the breaking news on television and knew her daughter was on the flight.

Where did I say I’m absolving the military? Hence, there wasn’t a single point of failure. I’m guessing you’ve never flown. Do you have the CRJ insight, and directions to follow that traffic when there was a plane taking off, at night, is absolutely not clear.
It must have been clear to the helicopter because they never asked for clarification.
When is the last time the US had a trade surplus with Canada? What existing tariffs that Canada has on US goods are the good ones that make the trade relationship a good one?
It’s not completely true and his statement is disingenuous at best. May have already been stated but they have not recovered the flight recorder from the chopper. Flight recorders are considered the most accurate and reliable measure of altitude, speed etc… The flight recorder on the air jet says it was at 325 feet when it struck the helicopter. Now… The records from the air traffic control tower say the helicopter was at 200 ft. So currently there is a 125 foot discrepancy between the plane’s flight data recorder and the tower records. The gov’t has yet to provide an explanation for this 125 foot discrepancy and is waiting for the flight data from the blackhawk to hopefully clear things up.
Remember, the flight data recorder is considered the most accurate record available.

Yeah. It’s was perfectly clear to the helo. They saw the inbound CRJ and the pilot said, hold my beer, check this shit out and ran right into it. That makes perfect sense.
No it was perfectly clear they saw the wrong plane . They were asked multiple times even once after receiving visual separation. They answered affirmative every time. This is totally on the helicopter flight crew . But you and Dingle won’t accept that.

I accept it. This disaster also uncovered other problems that have to be corrected as well. Controller staffing, helicopter routes, helicopter full crews, night vision use in that corridor, etc. Change any of these variables and even with a chopper at that elevation, this collision maybe doesn’t happen. As somebody else pointed out, problems like the traffic in that area don’t get fixed until something like this happens.

Unfortunately your last statement is true . With all the near misses hope was they would correct things before something like this happened. My major sticking point with you on this was when you brought up the AA pilot and possibly his part . He was the ONLY one including the Helicopter pilot that played no part in this tragic event. Hopefully this never happens again.
Of course if they change the route the elevation wouldn't matter. There is a very distinct reason there is a 200 foot ceiling right there. It's right in front of a runway. If you were to download autopylot and go to eppley there are 50 foot ceilings for drones following the radius of the airport and it increases as you go out. I live in a 400 foot ceiling. If I go 3/4 a mild southwest, it drops to 200 feet. If I breach that 200 foot ceiling and get caught, with no damage to anything I could face a 10,000 dollar fine and 6 months in jail. For breaching the ceiling with a less than half pound drone the size of a small plate.
There doesn't need to be any training by helicopters in that airspace. Period. Ever again.
