I mean, one could look at it that way and the logic is pretty sound. But it really doesn’t account for the fact that our NFL caliber starting QB is also his(Donnie’s) nephew. If there wasn’t strong connection between our best player and our O-line coach your logic would be a lot harder to poke wholes. JMO

Did being Uncle Donnie help with the retention? Sure. But when he retained Raiola, he said Donnie just kept coming into work while the others were at home waiting to be fired and that he and Raiola have the same approach and philosophy to coaching OL. If Rhule has a competent line coach who he is sympatico with in terms of coaching approach, that stands on its own. That he is the uncle of two very good young QBs had something to do with him being in Lincoln in the first place, and advantaged him in being retained during the coaching transition. And rather than there being something wrong with that, it’s actually a bonus for the program.

Did anyone say Raiola is an amazing OL coach? I didn't. Tenopir and Callahan were/are amazing OL coaches. What are the opinions of Rhule and Holgerson regarding Raiola. Rhule and Raiola come from the same approach to coaching the OL, and Rhule has stated publicly that he values Raiola as a member of the staff. Line play under Raiola has improved.

Just interesting. You can probably poke a few holes in the logic. I did feel like I saw improvement and on paper I like our starting 5 next year. Finally seems like it is a OL that could make a few things happen.

Corcoran’s hamstring injury “never quite healed” which led him to have surgery from a specialist “a couple weeks ago.” Rhule said “we’re hopeful he’ll be back at some point.”

Prochazka, who tore an ACL last August and has had three season-ending injuries in four years, is “right on pace."

Gottula, who stepped into the Big Ten fire as a redshirt freshman and started nine games while not appearing to be overwhelmed, “had his shoulder done.”

Along the interior, Henry Lutovsky, who took over for Micah Mazzccua at right guard and made 11 starts, “had surgery.”

Rhule also mentioned Tyler Knaak, a lineman who can play both guard and tackle, had surgery, too. In this case, Rhule was willing to say Knaak “should be back for the spring.”

We don't quite know much about how Taumua's 2024 went as he spent parts of it injured.

Convinced that Raiola is no bueno and if only they would hire (never coming to Lincoln/has an Oline approach not sympatico with Rhule/not as good as they think he is). Fun fact - Milt Tenopir began coach Oline at NU at age 34 and it was several years before he began building the legendary lines that NU is known, even though I'm sure he was a very good coach from the beginning of his tenure. Tenopir's coaching experience before that? High schools in Kansas.

Matt Rhule is 70-83 which = .4575 winning percentage. That’s over 12 years as head coach. He’s made a lot of mistakes to get to that mark. Please explain to me again that Matt Rhule is perfect and he couldn’t possibly be making a mistake with Donnie. I mean we’ve seen how awesome the other offensive coaches have been.

By the way my puppy just pissed all over the floor. I am so happy, he used to piss on the couch. What an improvement!!! 😒

We had a terrible offense, and no deep passing game...only on pass protection breakdowns when Dylan was able to elude rushers and he threw up lobs did we complete deep balls. When you have a bottom 100 offense it makes no sense to look at individual areas because they were all bad...especially when you have one of the most talented Qbs in the nation.

Yeah we can definitely agree to disagree. I trust my eye test from what it looked like previously to last year and quite honestly it's pretty obvious to me. We are entitled to our own opinions of course.

That's fair. He deserves the shit he gets for Sims. He has to own it. But the same way we criticize that we have to give credit for the Raiola flip. I'm not sure what's so hard about that when we are fans. Everything has to be so one sided when generally it's usually in the middle.

I'm a Rhule guy and I give him props for all the changes he has made this off season. That said he has to wear the worse hire of the bunch to me in Satterfield. Horrible hire from day 1 imo and I said as much then. But you damn well have to give him credit for going and replacing him with Dana. Same could be said about WR coaches.

I'm hoping like hell he gets it all right but the first group of hires were kinda rocky minus about 4 coaches.

Got the ball out AFAP, protected with 6+, went with much more heavy personnel.

I think you will se a faster paced offense from Holgersen in 2025. Not so much from snap to snap and using less of the play clock but more quicker short yardage throws with 4 wide and quick hitting run plays out of 4 wide. Scheming a much more productive run game. Then taking the top off after the short and intermediate pass game and quick hitting run game brings the DBs closer to the LOS. It helps make the OL look a lot better.

Raiola needs to make quicker decisions and trust the play calling. It will help with Holgersen calling plays that are designed to get the ball out of his hands quickly.
