Mickey Rumor

they were 11-5 and made the playoffs Saban's last year at Cleveland.

the following year, Saban goes to Michigan State and Bill finishes last in the division for the first time as well as his worst W-L record to date.

The guy is the third winningest NFL coach in history and has 6 Super Bowl titles and you are talking about someone else deserving the credit for an 11-win season 28 years ago?

oh please, he had the fortune of the greatest NFL player of all time being on his roster.

which is exactly why he has a losing record without him

Arians without Brady > Belichick without Brady

You are obviously a knuckle head.

I have secured promotions running large corporations and as well have promoted folks.

Nobody gets a 8X pay increase unless the person giving it to them are IDIOTS

No grow up and get some reality
Dabo didn’t get a 8x pay raise when he went from position coach to head coach?

Yes. That is the number that’s been discussed the most. Trev knows what he can offer and what a lot of parties think is best. When Mickey is offered the job officially it will be close to that number.
I don't think too many people would balk at that number, or if it is close to it, considering what we paid for SF and the way the numbers have gone up in the last few years.

I could see something in the area of 7 million total between guaranteed and incentive. Maybe it breaks down into 4.5/2.5 of guaranteed/incentive or I might even go more like 4.2/2.8 guaranteed/incentive.

I don't think that is unreasonable.

if he offers MJ anywhere near $5M TA is incompetent.

If he offers Urban or Rhule $10M he is competent

There will be some incentives. But Mickey is valued. There will also most likely be a coordinator making close to 2 million.

That's a high number, prob my upmost limit for a coordinator, leaving litle additional left to offer in subsequent years.. I am assuming an A+ hire at that price point.
I would imagine he will be in the running for head coach jobs for college or potentially nfl. But yes. If mickeys first choice comes he is a 2 million dollar per year guy. Raiola would be hard pressed to say no.

I'll assume there are tier levels in coaching salaries for Coordinators from a proven history that merit the top dollar outlay.

Elite $ 2M
Next level $ 1.5M to < $ 2M
Upper level $ 1M to < $ 1.5M
Proven $ 600K to < $ 1M
(None of the above are exact, moreso, a guess).

The Elite and Next Level, in most cases, aren't on the market or are in great situations. If they aren't "rumored" to be in situations they think are great, it makes sense to send out a feeler to his agent. If that Coordinator runs the style and type of offensive or defensive attack the HC plans to run.

In looking at trying to persuade an Upper-Level Coordinator to make the move to NU it could start with identifying the Coordinator(s) within that select group who have shown a proven ability to consistently develop an offense/defense that HC wants to feature.

Does that HC want a Coordinator who has generally been 60/40 run pass, or 60/40 pass-run? Is the HC looking for someone who has had success coordinating a physical attack? Or someone like Heupel/Kiffin, and others, no-huddle and run a snap every 15 seconds? How many of those Coordinators have their eye on an HC job in the next couple of years?

yeah, I'm not getting into the nuts and bolts of it, but what Bigtimebooster is suggesting is someone who might be the caliber of head coaching material to be a coordinator.. it's a paradigm shift in thinking, and I do like the thinking..

Ask yourself what if..

Say you had a Bill O'Brien running the offense and Vance Joseph running the defense.. I'm just saying as a mental exercise at this point, you start to run your program much more similarly to a pro organization and to what Saban does to be honest.

I would not like to see as many guys shuffling in and out as Alabama does, but it's a shift in thinking, and is at the heart of what I think btbooster is getting at.

At least that is the takeaway I am getting.

As a big time booster that is on the inside there is a 65 percent chance Mickey is the head coach next year. Mickey has presented his plans to Trev about who would join him on staff. There are some big, impressive names lined up to join if Mickey gets the job. A few current coaches would remain, but most would be gone. Mickey will get a full interview after the season, but if he wins this weekend don’t be surprised to see the interim position removed and a contract of 6 years and 5 million per season offered. There have been parents of current players letting Trev know they think Mickey should get the job, however there are some big time boosters who want Trev to just keep him on staff.

Trev has also been looking into exploring other apparel options other than Adidas due to their slow response to end the partnership with Kanye West. However this has also lead reps for Adidas to possibly increase sponsorship for Nebraska.
contract for 3 years, with possibility of extension.

Like scarletred and some of the other longtime Husker fans, since the 60s we've watched the college game evolve in lots of ways. From the early day, big, slow, plodding, powerful Huskers getting run off the field by the very small and very fast Bear Bryant teams. To the wishbone era, and then the early days of the West Coast offense, and now to primarily the spread and no-huddle.

All the technology and the ability to "steal" a great play from an opponent by watching and breaking down a film from last week's game, and putting it in this week's gameplan has made the game move so fast. But, it still comes down to blocking/tackling and coaching.

At the end of the day, player talent, coaching talent, and a difference maker or two in the player/coach/assistant areas have elevated schools to different levels. Those schools that make the right hiring decisions sit at the top and can remain there as long as they continue to have that brainpower/monetary/planning/commitment level advantage.

When they have those advantages, they will continue to spend more and more to keep that edge. Those schools that are unwilling or unable to make those types of commitments will continue to get their brains beat in by the big boys.

Every one of us has watched everyday business evolve into almost a money endeavor and little else. Identify and then hire those that elevate your business to a higher level. It's the same in college football.

Now college football is just the minor league system for the NFL. The really talented kids want to be in a program that moves them toward that goal.

Why give him that kind of guaranteed money when you know you could hire him for half that base with big incentives available for performance. I think it’s just insane to give that kind of contract to a guy who has never been a P5 head coach and I’m a big fan of Mickey.
3 year incentive contract

Well you are the one that proffered he should be paid $5M which is a 8+ pay increase
This is a very interesting read from 2 different sites about Sweeney.

In 2007 Sweeney turned down a $ 150K a year raise from Saban at Bama to come to join him as a coach. Sweeney turned it down even though he was the WR coach at Clemson.

The next year, he became an interim coach and then became HC. Many media outlets criticized the decision, including ESPN which called the hiring of Sweeney a "D+ hire." Sweeney was 38 years old and a WR coach who had never been a Coordinator.

Regardless of the criticism, Sweeney was confident in his ability to accomplish great things from the start.
Belief. It's a powerful thing. Twitter from Clemson football.

When AD Phillips hired Sweeney,
"Many fans were very upset at the hiring."

The most telling part of everything is THIS: In an interview with ESPN, AD Phillips said, "he was impressed with Sweeney's recruiting ability, his charisma, and his relationship with the players." "I liked the way he coached his players, how he was tough on them but was always teaching them and always there for them outside of football. It's not a facade with Dabo. He genuinely cares, and his players sense that."

Phillips said players were always hanging around Sweeney's office when they weren't on the practice field or in class.

"And not just receivers, but players from all positions. Kids migrated to this particular coach, and that caught my eye." "Long story short, I just had a feeling that Dabo was exactly what we needed at Clemson, even though I knew a lot of others wouldn't share that feeling."

From the Sporting News 1-13-2020.

The turning down the raise from Saban was from a site, Sportcasting Feb 23, 2022.

Also, I was unable to find the pay increase for him when he went from WR coach to interim coach to Head Coach at Clemson.

FWIW.

Rhule @ 10 mil?!?!

Season record in college is 57.22%.

His bowl record is 33.33%.

His pro record is so bad I'm not going to embarrass him by typing it out.

No way. If you have stipulations on 8x pay for Mickey and claiming some executive pay custom that limits Mickey because he was a position coach, even though he was the assistant head coach.....I have a hard time believing you would put this guy in with Urban freaking Meyer in the pay category.

Rhule has won the Texas bowl. That's it.

Did you write up the extension for Moos on Frost's contract as well?

You should make a new thread with this. Very interesting. Sure sounds like MJ. Can it work twice??

WHCSC, not a bad suggestion, but I wouldn't do that until Sunday at the earliest.

The old saying lightning doesn't strike twice may be true, but I felt the traits were so similar between the two. Of course, Dabo having tons of success over the years at Clemson doesn't imply Mickey (if he's even hired) would approach Dabo's level of success.

But, some of what the Clemson AD said about Sweeney is exactly the same thing many others say and have said about Mickey. I started to read that and I said, "are you shitting me?". Two men, two different universities, yet the intangibles were nearly identical.

If nothing else, at least a new thread makes it a topic that folks can see and decide if they want to take a quick read.

Dude probably dreams he is some kind of corporate somebody, his ten mil for Rhule is laughable at best. And 5 mil is the starting rate for Nebraska and should be Mickey's if he is hired as the HC.
