Matt Rhule Presser 11/14/24

It’s tough to be part of the silver lining crowd on this board when people want blood.

I get it. Still have some hope, but I get it.

I did

then you created your own bizarre parameter

then I could’ve been factually correct (again) and said top 15, 20, 25, etc

then I realized you needed to be bullied as a form of social conditioning, because you idiots did the same thing with Pelini, Riley and Frost when you were performing your mental gymnastics
How a team finishes ranked is some bizarre scenario? That is the one & only scenario. No one uses in-season rankings to determine end of the season success because how a team is ranked Week 1 - final week of the regular season as it doesn't really matter once the entire season plays out. My "bizarre scenario" shows consistency.

Example, 1976 season, when Nebraska played Texas Tech. Before the game TTech was ranked #9 and Nebraska #13. After the game, final season rankings, TTech #13 and Nebraska #7/#9.

Either Nebraska beat a Top 10 team in Texas Tech and Nebraska wasn't a Top 10 team OR Nebraska didn't beat a Top 10 team in Texas Tech and Nebraska was a Top 10 team. The latter is the correct answer by the way.

You cannot say that Nebraska beat a Top 10 team AND that they were a Top 10 team.

Bully? I'm sorry, but who's the one calling names again?

preseason rankings =/= end of regular season rankings and your attempt to conflate the two is frankly retarded given you’re ignoring 3 months of determining data.

also, that’s just not how it works, because according to your logic, nobody can ever beat the #1 overall team, since after beating them their ranking will change.

history will remember Vanderbilts win over Alabama as “Vanderbilt’s first win over the #1 overall team”.

pressure's off today

I expect literally nothing from our team and to get blown out

another first year coach punching his bowl ticket at UW, this time after a mass exodus of talent

sigh
Jedd Fisch seems like he’ll succeed there. If we could trade HCs with them I’d feel a lot better about things.

And Dannen hired him there. Hopefully he’s better than the last few ADs we’ve had.

So ignore everything up to this point. Nah. The HC is in charge and it's been a shit show from day 1. But you go on plant
Agreed. Things are obviously not going to plan. Here’s to hoping DH brings his A game to NU and isn’t another guy looking for a fat paycheck from us and bringing less than max effort.

My point was, the poster took a random 3 year period of TO's and tried to compare it to a 3 year period, and TO's career extended well past any 3 year period.
I didn't have the energy to look up 25 years worth of Osborne's victories and those opponents winning records.

If you had to guess, what would that number (%) for Osborne be if spanned over his 25 year career?

At no point am I conflating preseason rankings to end of regular season rankings. Just like I wouldn't conflate Week 5, Week 9, Week 12, etc to end of the regular season rankings.

The reason I brought up FSU was to point out that it's silly to base who you beat off of in-season rankings.

Shoot, take FSU out. How about Washington in Week 6. Will they be able to claim that they beat a Top 10 team?

So staying consistent and waiting to determine what ranked teams you actually beat, you use end-of-the-season rankings, and Nebraska from '74-'76 never beat a Top 10 team like what you claimed.

No, history will not remember that unless they look it up or Bama wins the whole thing or if you're a Vandy fan. Just like nobody remembers South Carolina beating Bama in 2010 except for South Carolina fans.

No idea, but I would bet its lower than either one of actually thinks.

If you weigh a loss to a 11-0 OU against wins against the 1-10 KU and KSU, it likely weighs a low number, right?

If I recall, other than 1992? when NU lost to Iowa State, a Tom Osborne team never lost to a team that had a losing record on the year.

So he would have heavily beaten teams with lots of losing season records which presumably would be larger than the number of teams they beat that had real good records.

I don't think anyone is gonna take the hours it would take to actually find that number.
I know I'm not.

> “nobody will remember that”
> “immediately brings up something he remembers”

False equivalency, Nebraska played those teams in bowl games as a result of their respective rankings, because rankings and the context behind them are important.

And I remember that game just fine, you having the memory of a goldfish doesn’t create a universal rule.

No matter how you slice it, dying in the hill that Rhule should be compared to Tom Osborne is a brainlet argument.

I don’t see a silver lining in any of this but I’m not going to go scorched earth on the head coach like some. Obviously Rhule recognized Satt needed help last year. He tried to fix the situation with Thomas but it didn’t work. Now he’s trying Dana. At least he’s recognized the problems and is doing everything he can to correct them

I’m afraid you’re probably right. This USC team beat LSU and I think has lost 5 games by a total of 19 points. They’ve been better than us all year. 😕

Hahaha!!! Did you know that there's a thing called Google where you can look stuff up that no one remembers?

Right, the context is that Nebraska beat a team that finished the season ranked outside the Top 10.

Let's say I concede this whole "Nebraska didn't beat a Top 10 team in Texas Tech". What other Top 10 teams did Nebraska beat in those 3 years? I mean, you did say that Nebraska beat multiple Top 10 teams in those 3 years.

If you think I'm comparing Rhule to Osborne, then you need help my friend.

1974: beat #8 Texas in the Cotton Bowl
1976: best #9 Texas Tech in their bowl game

Congratulations, now everyone knows you’re retarded
Congratulations, now everyone knows you can’t read.

Wrong again. You were very specific in commenting that we beat multiple Top 10 teams in the '74-'76 season.

That Texas win was for the 1973 season.
Hahaha shut the fųck up

Tom Osborne Jr. is getting worked by 4-5 USC right now, making you look even more stupid

Even when I try to be a nice guy and concede to one of your idiotic points, you still end up being wrong.
