Finally we had a game where where a lot of things came together:
- Great play selection, nice run/pass mix. Great 99 yard drive.
- Getting Tommy involved in the run game. It was refreshing to see the designed QB draws and runs.
- Pass protection was the best we've had for a while. Good to see Tommy with time to throw.
- Better throws and catches. Tommy started off shaky, but put it together for the rest of the game.
- Great to see Newby break a long one. Was beginning to wonder if he could do that. Nice to see him outrun some smaller DB's on his way to the endzone.
- Run defense was stout. We were playing against an inexperienced Center and it showed.
- Interceptions. Kept praying for some picks, so we could prove that an interception is possible.
- Didn't play call scared. Even though we were up, we kept the pressure on by throwing the ball. Key catch by Wester-stache on a critical third down.
- Played through injuries. We had a total 5 Linebackers that could even play Saturday. That's thin and we still come up with a win. If we can get some guys back healthy, we could start rolling.
What's not to like:
Pass defense is still terrible. They could have passed all day long on us, luckily they were determined to get back to their power run game and it played right into our hands. Like I said, glad to get some badly needed picks for a little confidence.
Love this staff and we desperately need a win next week against Northwestern to build on this nice victory.
