Lost another one

Better hurry up and get the new coach hired to save the 4* recruits!

2018's class is gonna be a tough one.

Hopefully the new coach can get some flips and keep the kids that aren't "soft".

I believe that Dallas Craddieth and Tate Wildeman were both supposed to visit this weekend and NU cancelled both of those. If that doesn't tell you that something is going down, I don't know what does.
Agreed.
But why did they cancel?

Things will happen in just a couple of days. If Scott is indeed named as the HC, I think there will actually be a big surge in recruiting. I don't mind losing some of these other kids that don't want to be here if Mike is gone. To me, those kids moving on is a good thing. Things are going to get very exciting though, and for those guys that really follow recruiting, I think you are going to be in for a treat the next few months.

I agree. If Frost is announced as the coach I think we may even see some of these guys who decommitted at least reconsidering as well.

Not sure that I agree.

I believe these kids were committed to Nebraska and the assistants that recruited them.

Donte and Keith Williams are good recruiters. Some of these kids committed because of them and to play for them.

So without them, these kids will wait and see where these two coaches end up, then decide whether to follow then to their new school.

IF either of these coaches happen to stay, the recruit will probably at least reconsider, but probably not as likely if they are not retained.

I would venture to say these kids have very close relationships with Donte and Keith to say the least.

Even though Jason Peter called the Cali kids soft, I was pretty excited for Chase Williams.

He sounded like a great kid and a very good player.

I think his loss hurts, but understand that the new coach will just have to replace him.

Recruits commit to the school, but by relationships in a huge way.

This recruiting class will be snowballing downhill until the new coach and assistants can try to save it.

Losing Donte and Keith will hurt this class a ton because of their abilities to connect with these kids. They can recruit. No doubt about it and the reason so many of us (yes, not all on here were excited, some think like JP) were excited when Donte was hired and were "more than okay" with Riley's decision to keep Keith W on the staff following his DUI.

Perhaps you are right. Time will tell

Jason Peter is a douchebag. The two most physical players we have had in recent memory were Quincy Enunwa and Eric Martin. Guess where I they were from?
I don't disagree that California kids aren't soft, but...most physical we've had in some memory you have to go to.....
Eric Martin?
Why because of one blindside hit?

I’ve had a couple ex-players tell me that Martin was the guy on the team you wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley. He was a tough hombre.

Ok, but what makes it so he's one of the two toughest players we have had in recent memory? Seems odd to have to go back that far. He wasn't very good either.

Because they don't want commits/potential recruits on an official visit while the coaching staff is being fired. I believe they gave them some excuse, but these are smart kids. They know why.

Not having a head coach would make for an awkward visit, especially being there on your visit when he is fired!

That’s some wishful thinking there. We have some major holes on defense and we are losing some keys peace’s. If Frost or new coach can’t patch these holes fast when hired our Huskers are going to take a major hit that we WILL feel for several years. Wow, Wildeman will be the next to decommit as he was a Diaco kid and only picked us over Iowa because of him....again another big need area...DE/OLB.

I hope to hell Donte Williams ends up as far away from our football program as humanly possible. Our defensive backfield has been garbage from the moment he became our DB coach.

I'd argue he is one of the most physical players we have had in the last couple decades. Enunwa too. They brought the wood on every single play.

Unfortunately, most of the time the recruiting trend seems to show that a transition hurts recruiting.

No matter who we get, the new coaching staff still has to create relationships. Creating relationships is a lot harder to do than most realize because not all of these kids are just wanting to go play at Nebraska and have to be convinced to come here.

If, by chance, there are a lot of kids just waiting to commit to play at Nebraska, but they didn't want to play for Riley, then maybe we will see a big swing in recruiting with a big name coach, but that is not as likely to happen as we wish during this first recruiting class with a new coach.

As a poster on RSS said “ give us kids that want to play for Nebraska because of pride in Nebraska not because a certain coach is cool to hang with.”

Well the cool coach thing hasn’t shown much return on the investment.

In his defense, he has only been here for a year, well, almost a year.

Devil's Advocate:
The secondary play has not been good decent this season, but how much of that truly has to do with him or has to do with him coaching the way the world's best teacher/coach (Diaco) wants it done?

I don't expect a strong recruiting rebound. Not this year. The new HC will likely need > 2 years and 3 games.

I'm guessing the new coaching staff won't show a regression in their first 2 years and 3 games though. That's plenty of time to determine if a team is trending upwards. They weren't, and that's why they are going to be gone in a couple days. And I can't imagine Mike Riley will argue the decision.

Recruiting is always going to be partly about the relationships being built between the people. Anyone suggesting otherwise doesn't understand human relationships.

Donte Williams is one of the best recruiters in the country. I badly wish he could be retained.

So you like the spinning in circles, stumbling, and losing their receivers our DBs do nearly every play on defense? LOL! Can't wait for that guy to get the hell away from our DBs.

I'm not surprised you've arrived at this conclusion. Why should one consider all possible coaching variables when you can hastily dismiss one of the elite recruiters in the country after less than one season on the job. It's the Nebraska way.
