Anyone who knows NIL rules… would it be within the scope of NIL rules for Nebraska to legislate a statewide tiny sales tax to pay for athletes?

We’re never gonna compete within the Big 10 when it comes to money, and we saw the difference on the field today. It was the primary reason. There may have been other reasons, but they pay their athletes A LOT better. Money Buys Athletes. Prove otherwise.

We don’t have the wealthy donors like Michigan and we’ll never have Texas Money, unless everyone from the bottom up pays.

Sales Tax. Is It Legal?

Where are the beer gut blowhards who proclaimed we would thrive in NIL when it was first announced???

Naw, now its "the good ones are not being paid enough to come here".
Someone wants to TAX us for it. I mean good God almighty.
Money destroys all that it touches, and a lot of times it does not continue to motivate after you get everything you want.
College football is dead.

Don't blame the money, that's not the issue. It has been COACHING period (and that includes deciding who to recruit). To be fair the verdict is yet to be determined on Rhule (but yes, he did make the decision to recruit Sims from the portal). IMO, going after Sims was the biggest Rhule mistake so far.

And no, the state cannot fund NIL through the University according to NCAA rules. Has to come from an outside group.

For as bad as we've been, coaching has been the issue. If we ever want to get the recruits that we need to compete for national titles again, yes NIL is a huge deal and we'll need to have a stronger collective.

We have boosters willing to donate millions for renovations on Memorial Stadium, so why can't we get the money to pay the best players in the nation?

The NIL money is there, but to be honest there's been little good product to invest in. If the team starts winning like it should, more NIL money also will come pouring in.

Total socialist bullshit. Go work on the Bernie Sanders campaign. "Money destroys all it touches." What a laughably stupid thing to say. You obviously just haven't managed your money well in life.
I’ve given 6 figures to this program last 20+ years in donations. Other teams give more and have better teams because of that. I’m done giving money until we’re competitive in that manner.

Look @ what Kentucky did today. They pay key players. They have the same Money as we do, they’re doing better with why they have.

If you think it's only a money issue, than I completely disagree with that opinion.
I think that is Primarily a money issue. Look at the top 25. They all spend more money than we do. A lot more.

Can the Nebraska legislature come up with a bill that designates a tiny % of sales tax to an ‘outside group’?

Is that legal?

The problem is we have cheap billionaires, Warren buffet could fund the nil money with ease , what about the union pacific there headquarters are in Omaha

IDK about the legality of your suggestion, but you’re right about one thing, we need to figure out a way to pay our players/recruits through NIL that competes with and beats our competition. It’s the new landscape, you go cheap on NIL, you will be behind the 8 ball talent wise.

Agreed, but the train has left the station. You either pay’em or get left behind. This isn’t changing, so we better figure out how to win this arm$ race.

IMO, way too many Husker fans are using money as an excuse. That kind of defeatist thinking distracts us from getting better.

It’s your ‘Nebraska-Way’ Oldness that is burying us into history. We need to find a creative way as a ‘poor state’ (because that’s what we’ve become, competitively) to compete. I’m just suggesting we think outside the box. Legislate an Athlete Talent Tax. For all Nebraskans.

It's hard to get on board with the supposed "wealth" for NIL that the AD supposedly has. I'm not buying it anymore.

When UM shows up and shows off their helmet AC tech for all to see, it makes us look as behind and clueless as the product on the field.

We need to get that south stadium upgraded and get those students closer to the field! (This was the start of the 4th Q - a good deal of it was cleared out before the start of the 2nd half)

You and I saw the same thing. Thank you

My hope is that when the new South stadium goes in, the noise level is improved. The awkward gaps between sections are not helpful.

The highest dB at Memorial I can recall lately was about 103/104. Buddy of mine says that UGA's stadium is regularly pushing 143 dB.

Humans are greedy. And these days, lazy. Great combo.

I've lived my life without Mommy and Daddys money, and not much in the way of their help beyond the morals, values and common sense my they instilled when I was young. I thank God every day for that. And in that, I'm more wealthy than you will ever be.
Beyond that, I've experienced human behavior in a way that you obviously have not. I'm sure you'd say the same.

Also Bernie F'n Sanders? LMFAO not even once.

You can't be serious

I graduated the U of MN still have a mild interest in the Gophers.

But I will NEVER donate even 1 cent to a SLEAZE FUND. I mean why should I care about mercenaries who have ABSOLUTELY NO ASSOCIATION to me or my school? And why should I contribute to the ruining of college FB & BB ? Oh, wow, some guys with Gophers on their jerseys won, yay!...as if that has anything whatsoever to do with me...what a joke.

I should hit the gym myself & donate to good causes.

We have the money it is just being mismanaged. This new 450 million dollar project included 220+ million in private funding and the athletic facilities included over 100 million in private funding. Meanwhile, we spent 10 times less in the portal compared to teams we want to be competitive with, even at key position like QB (1 million is going rate for a good QB and we spent 100k). Georgia's NIL offer to Raoila also far exceeded what we offered. Bottomline, we have the money and talked a good NIL game, but we are being left behind by programs with leadership and boosters who understand the new game.
