Holgerson N (formerly known as: "Holgerson soon to be named OC")

I hope he helps install a quick game in the passing. Double slants and mesh routes as man beaters, Stick and out routes against zone. Get the ball out of the young QBs hands ASAP.
One thing I noticed on tv and I know receivers are taught if the QB is in trouble you gotta come back to help the QB. Our receivers look like they're doing that but with Raiola arm I'd send atleast 1 if not 2 deep. This would help get the safeties off and free up scrambling lanes.

Just my thoughts

There were multiple plays against UCLA where they brought a blitz , Dylan had wide open guys short over the middle and he simply held the ball. He needs to be coached to check it down to a hot read.

Definitely need to send Lloyd or Barney on a go or post a few times a game. But I think the bigger issue is how long Satt’s passing plays take to develop. Holgerson needs to create a simplified mini scheme for the next three games.

It’s those little tweaks that I’m expecting from someone like him watching the game. We’re really missing that. It seems like every route we run. It’s receivers 10 yards down the field, and it’s just taking too long to develop.

He’s got a lot to work on and needs to be coached accordingly. Needs to learn to take those check downs and to be able to throw bullet passes instead of just touch.

I'd temper my expectations here, if Dana was that valued as an OC he'd have had an OC job right now instead of a consultant gig at a second tier big 12 program.
To be fair he has been employed as a HC/OC from 2007 until 2023. Not sure perhaps he wanted a light year to evaluate his options. Lots of coaches do that.

He’s added as a consultant. Not the OC. We already knew Rhule was bringing in a consultant. I won’t be surprised if Satt is out and Holgerson takes over as OC after the season, but he’s not the OC yet.

That's the public stance.....we'll see how this evolves in the coming weeks.

That's true, how were his numbers in the most recent seasons though? Was he starting to trail off, a la a Bo Pelini defense? As if the college football world had figured him out?

Wrong guy in the wrong conference if this is where we’re going. They’ll basically be Texas Tech with his 4 wide spread it around “speed focused” offense. I want a power offense with big, physical lines, downhill run game and play action passing. Give me the Paul Chryst offense he ran at Wisconsin any day over this Mickey Mouse crap

If my boss brought someone in to tell me how to do my job - I would starting dusting off the resume.

Holgerson coming in like Jesse …

Years ago a friend was telling me how he got tasked with training a new guy at his company...the task was to train him how to do HIS current job. It never occurred to him that he was getting canned. Hahaha

Last stop at Houston was a mixed bag:

2019: Scoring Offense: 46th. Passing Offense: 85th Rushing Offense 37th Team Record: 4-8
2021: Scoring Offense: 19th. Passing Offense: 24th Rushing Offense 82nd Team Record: 12-2
2022: Scoring Offense: 13th. Passing Offense: 7th Rushing Offense 75th Team Record: 8-5
2023: Scoring Offense 85th. Passing Offense: 53rd Rushing Offense 101st Team Record: 4-8

Note: I didn't include 2020 as that was an odd year and choose to ignore it.

as NU continues to make upgrades
FALSE, he's hired as an additional consultant not a replacement for anyone. So is Phil Snow. Basically there's no practical limit on football staff these days.

That's what I want as well.

his best player also quit the team in the middle of a potential Heisman run

Each school can have unlimited coaches now
Right, but can he actually be in the booth and on the practice field?

Remember when Frost hired that ST analyst and in the summer of 2020 they held unauthorized practices? Granted I think we self reported(allegedly) in that situation.

I know that some folks are going to see this and get freaked out because it’s an air raid guy coming into the big 10. But if you look at a lot of his concepts, especially his work in the mesh game he’s doing a lot of really good things…and he’s not an up-tempo 100% of the time type of coach. Similar to Leach, He goes up tempo and slows it down because he knows the value in mixing up tempos to confuse defenses.

Is Rhule doing this because he has no confidence in his staff or being forced to instead of firing anyone?
