Holgerson N (formerly known as: "Holgerson soon to be named OC")

Most people don't think he would change jobs so abruptly without him coming in to be the next OC.

I said in a post yesterday that Satterfield and Foley were already fired. Basically just a matter of when it's announced imo.

Whether DH is the next guy idk but wouldn't surprise me. I just know there is no way you can bring Satterfield back. That's a done deal imo.

That's typical of most air raid systems. High PPG, low RZ%, and lowish YPC. It would be crazier if he had great RZ%. I think we should also remove 2007 from our minds. Let's be honest Leach was running that show.
So we are going to shift to an air raid system?? wow.. that is going to turn out bad here. We don't have the WR talent to do that, and we are once again trying to build around 1 guy it seems.

there is zero chance of an air raid system working at Nebraska in the long run

I hope so. He’s given them more than adequate time to succeed and the stage is just too big for them IMO. Good luck to both.

Will be interesting to see how the offense looks against SC. Are they going to throw more on the QBs. He's good but he is a freshman and there will be changes to work on. I am sure there are different blocking schemes as well. Be interesting to see if there are any changes or what they are.

Let’s say this is the eventual new hire, what would be the identity they would want as a team going forward? I’m guessing its not that we’re going to beat you up on the lines and out physical the opponent. Is it just that we’re going to be more athletic than the opponents at the skill positions and out scheme everyone? Just trying to think of what teams will identify Nebraska football as going forward with DH running the offense.

You don't know college football or something...

Air raid is so easy it's quick installed in high school teams all throughout the country when they need a competitive advantage. Easier on receivers, qbs and linemen. Rbs gotta make the most of whatever they're given whenever and make each rep count.

Oklahoma did pretty well with it to win their last national championship. If they can do it, so can Nebraska.

couldn't care less how we score points.

yes, running the ball demoralizes the opponent late in the game.

you know what else demoralizes an opponent? putting up 2 scores within 5 minutes. immediately answering their slow offense's FG/TD with another score.

happens to us all the time.

Lol 🤣 DH’s worst 2 seasons in roughly 20 years were 85th and 71st. Both of which are significantly better than what Satt has done here. That’s how fvcking worthless our current OC. The rest are all top 50. 9 in top 20 and 5 top 10 offenses. 😀

These are numbers Satt couldn’t sniff with a trained blood hound. I don’t know if DH will get top 20 results here (please god 🙏🏻) but this is a HUGE upgrade in experience and results. We’re replacing a guy who’s been average to straight up dreadful at every stop. Career retread loser with a guy that has 95% of his offenses are inside the top 50 nationally. That’s better than every offensive coordinator/coach we’ve had in the last 20+ years. Yes Frost had a top 10 offense at UCF (1 year) and 2 top 20 offenses at Oregon. Very impressive, but Holgerson has done that 9 times. His resume blows away every offensive coach we had since TO.

It doesn’t feel right that you bring someone in to train your coaches.
I don’t really view it as training. Somebody made the point today that the 49ers have 14 offensive coaches. No doubt there’s more than 2 or 3 of them that work on game plans. Rhule most recently coached in the NFL. He’s going to get some fresh ideas. I like the move.

I only like the move if some dudes are let go. It’s not like Satt is new on the job. He’s been doing this quite a while and is clearly not very good at it

I really can’t think of one possible positive outcome from keeping Satt around. I guess… you can wait till season’s end to can him? But why?

Not arguing, BUT, if the plan is to turn it over to Thomas, why bring Holgo in? Just make Thomas the OC now.
Rhule is realizing he and hi staff know **** all about QB's.

He remembers Will Grier putting 58 on his team in 2018, and how he had no idea how to get him properly coached in the NFL. Others like Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield come to mind, guys who were awful with Rhule/Satterfield, but flourishing under better coaches.

While he's at it, he should give Cale Gundy a call to get the WR's coached up.

Thomas could be gone too. Rhule flirted with Holgerson earlier. OR it could be nothing more than allowing him to observe and offer advice. That’s usually what a consultant does. Who is to say that Thomas’s end goal is to be our OC? We’ll just have to wait and see but it appears we have an option if Rhule decides to go a different direction at OC.

Darnold was awful before he went to Carolina and he actually was playing a little better for Rhule. Every QB seems to flourish in Shanahan’s and O’Connell’s systems.

So you say Satterfeld and foley are fiired in one paragraph and then say Satt can’t be brought back in another. You are a clown that doesn’t know anything.

Thomas? LOL.. He's done wonders for Dylan. Hell no.
My contention is that Satt’s play calling is the biggest factor in Dylan’s struggles. When you start a game with 5 passes in a row for your freshman QB, you’re a moron.

That wasn’t my point. The poster I replied to seemed to think Holgerson is just here for a short time, remainder of the year, whatever, and Thomas would become the OC.

My point was, if that’s the case, just make him OC now. My GUESS is that Holgo will become OC, probably even acting OC now. Rhule is just not publicly saying that because, in his mind at least, he is protecting Satt.

I would hope Holgerson gets to bring in a new RB, WR, and possibly even a new OL Coach, of his choosing, or at least have a say in who comes in.

I would have called gundy right after he got fired over some nonsense.

Glen Thomas record:

COACHING CAREER
2024:
Nebraska (Co-Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks)
2023: Pittsburgh Steelers (Offensive Assistant Coach)
2022: Arizona State (Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks)
2020-21: UNLV (Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks)
2017-19: Baylor (Co-Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks)
2016: Temple (Offensive Coordinator)
2015: Temple (Quarterbacks Coach)
2012-14: Atlanta Falcons (Quarterbacks Coach)
2008-11: Atlanta Falcons (Offensive Assistant)
2005-07: Midwestern State (Offensive Coordinator)
2001-04: Midwestern State (Graduate Assistant/Wide Receivers)

looks like he can be qb coach..(although the steelers ain't been much at qb since Bradshaw..falcons ain't won much)

holgerson can be OC and recivers coach (unless we get gundy then just OC)
gundy can bust a rhythm on how to block and get separation

my main problem right now is who should be the running backs coach, they seem to have gradually faded also during the year..
maybe boise state's rb coach is avalible, he seems to have a grasp on what he's doing...

the kid or sat can be tight ends coach..( can't screw up one player too bad) maybe the two of them together can get the tight end running north south....

and raiola oline coach, he need help...his nephew can run but I'm not sure he can take alot of hits..think left tackle, then dream about recruiting left tackles..

I like rhule, he can handle the media and recruits well (minus simms), folks under him need to step up, thats their job...remember 1 chief, many warriors

Darnold's best year statistically was 2019 with the Jets. His worst year for TDs/INTs was with Rhule in 2021.

Yes because they know how to develop QB's, which is exactly the point I'm making.

Kenny Pickett was a master at completing 5 yard passes to a check down on 3rd and 10. I'm not lost on the QB play improvement in Pittsburgh since he left as QB coach using former rejects of other teams.

Hahaha yeah, I bought shares of redbull stock when you first started this thread. Based on my projections, a few weeks for Holgo in this program and their price is about to go through the roof just based on his consumption alone. He gets retained full time and we're talking set for life level returns
he need to share alot with the offense

You could hide the kid as TE coach if Rhule truly won't part with him. Need to find a boss WR and RB coach. I'm not sure Satt brings anything as a TE coach that someone with better recruiting connections couldn't bring so no point in keeping him.

I wonder what the projectory of Mozee is. He could be the future TE coach. Rhule likes to put former high school coaches as TE coaches. I'm just not sure I see him parting with McGuire.
