Holgerson N (formerly known as: "Holgerson soon to be named OC")

Kenny Pickett was a master at completing 5 yard passes to a check down on 3rd and 10. I'm not lost on the QB play improvement in Pittsburgh since he left as QB coach using former rejects of other teams.
Pickett is the lowest of rejects. Fields was 5x the college qb that Pickett was and nearly got the dysfunctional Bears to the playoffs. Overrated or not, Wilson is obviously an accomplished NFL qb.

Pretty brutal qb room in Pittsburgh last year.

Cool

We get to watch a lame duck coach call our plays during the most important month of the season so nobody’s feelings are hurt

Very awesome
There would be no benefit to firing Satt before the end of the season. Removing his play calling duties may have already happened in the second half of the UCLA game.

what's the benefit of keeping him on?

akin to keeping an easily accessible malignant tumor in the body

send his ass packing and move on
He’s not a malignancy. He’s a crappy play caller who can coach TEs. We’re paying him and he’s installed his offense. I believe it’s too late to scrap his offense this year. He can help breakdown film and coach his position group.

Will we see any difference in the offensive scheme vs. Southern Cal?

Man you’re on a roll🙄
It’s cruel to keep rolling him out to be tarred and feathered and publicly emasculated

We already employ another OC and just hired yet another to consult

Rhule as a man of faith should take mercy on his friend and cut him loose

There is literally zero benefit to keeping him a single day longer if the decision to let him go has already been made as so many assume/infer

There are multiple people in that building who can coach TE's. Including the former TE coach Josh Martin. Ron Brown. Jamar Mozee.

Last year Satt was the “QB coach”.

His best QB gave an interview in the offseason stating all he did was OC/scheme stuff and spent zero time coaching technique.

Satt isn’t coaching the TEs.

Either way, we have 2 former D1 TE coaches on our staff. Keeping him on to coach TE's would be a move only NU would make.
NU has a history of letting coaches “take other opportunities”. My point is that having him still in the room probably doesn’t hurt anything. Firing him with 3 games left might not be a positive with the players.

Consequences for failure is probably something the players need to see

Especially after little Matty said publicly he’ll never chase a player from the program

These guys have no edge as it is, now we want to coddle and kowtow? Yuck

You could hide the kid as TE coach if Rhule truly won't part with him. Need to find a boss WR and RB coach. I'm not sure Satt brings anything as a TE coach that someone with better recruiting connections couldn't bring so no point in keeping him.

I wonder what the projectory of Mozee is. He could be the future TE coach. Rhule likes to put former high school coaches as TE coaches. I'm just not sure I see him parting with McGuire.
This program needs to get rid of crappy coaches if we ever expect things to change. Expecting to be able to hide coaches on staff who have already failed is a recipe for disaster, and its inbred thinking that needs to go. This kind of attitude is everything that is wrong with the program.

There needs to be a purge of every single person on the offensive staff, from the coordinator on down to the towel boy. And a ban on bringing anyone in who Rhule has worked with before. There is literally a pool of tens of thousands of coaches and potential coaches out there. Why do we always feel the need to limit that pool to a couple dozen that the head guy is buddy-buddy with?

They’ll see the consequences hopefully in December but I suspect they already know the outcome. I guess I’m not going throw any tantrums because I have to wait to open my Christmas present.

Whipple sure got a lot out of Pickett. 3rd in the heisman voting.

Let that sink in a minute.

100% sure that's what's going on here. Especially given their longstanding friendship. Not uncommon at all to allow the defunct coach to try to save some face.

That wasn’t my point. The poster I replied to seemed to think Holgerson is just here for a short time, remainder of the year, whatever, and Thomas would become the OC.

My point was, if that’s the case, just make him OC now. My GUESS is that Holgo will become OC, probably even acting OC now. Rhule is just not publicly saying that because, in his mind at least, he is protecting Satt.

I would hope Holgerson gets to bring in a new RB, WR, and possibly even a new OL Coach, of his choosing, or at least have a say in who comes in.
Would Dylan stay if Uncle gets whacked?

I'd like to think so... He's here now, his ol'man is obviously Huge into the program and this kid has high aspirations of NFL play... he doesn't get there unless he's upright and has opportunity to win games... in the end, it's Business

OP - since you’re editing the title of this thread you may as well spell his name correctly. I guess my joke about Winstrom, Peters, & Tommy Frazier was too subtle.

If the plan is to let him go, it makes no sense to not let him go now.

It is not like a regular job where he would stop getting paid, he will get every penny still.

So if they have not let him go it must mean they are going to re-demote him, again.

Rhule is probably on the phone trying to get him a new job. He can’t be bothered game prepping for SC

I think he moves on. They will not fire him or demote him. MR has stated a dozen times he doesn't like to fire coaches in season. He won't. He knows he needs to but he can't because it means his words are known to be meaningless. That is the only reason MS is and will be employed until the Saturday after Thanksgiving or maybe Christmas.

there’s a right way to treat other human beings. I really don’t see the benefit to canning Satt during the season. I don’t believe we can completely overhaul our offense during a bye week. Hopefully somebody is calling plays with suggestions from Holgerson.

I suppose they could have actually talked and said "Hey, do you want to leave now OR would you like to finish out the season"

Who knows.

And he will keep getting paid for the duration of his contract and more likely he will have a new coaching job for next season. These guys all look out for each other and now with the insane size of coaching staffs these guys are all getting jobs.
