Just a little fun, but seriously, how do you guys see this year going? What does the QB situation look like? Any emerging stars? Whatcha got for us?

As we have not beaten you guys in 3 tries, you bring up a valid question. I think Nebraska will win about 8 games this year, 9 if we can beat Oregon. With Riley's true offensive system on the brink of finally taking shape and depending how beaten up each of our teams are, the Iowa-Nebraska game could be really good. I don't know if we'll beat you this year, but damnit I hope so.

Possible emerging stars? Aaron Williams, Chris Weber, Tanner Lee, Tyler Hoppes, Tyjon Lindsey and JD Spielman.

What do we have for ya? I dunno, whatcha got for us?

We've got two pretty good RB's, maybe very good. Wadley will return as leading rusher and James Butler transferred from Nevada and looks VERY impressive. The O-line looks legit, and the TE production looks to up this year. The question marks are at WR and QB. We seem to have a two way battle for the starting spot at QB between Senior Wiegers and Sophomore Stanley, both of whom are pocket passer types. Though we do have a question, as Peyton Mansell is a dual-threat and you never know. Though I think ultimately Stanley wins the job.
The offense will be reworked with Brian Ferentz taking over from GDGD, and the new offensive line coach from NDSU looks to figure into the scheme as he was their OC. We also have an actual QB coach this year, so that's exciting. We'll be able to get away from the horizontal style passing game, and hopefully take advantage of our TE development.
On defense we should be pretty settled on the DE's, but DT is a big question mark as we lost our best DT in awhile. Safety is also a concern, but I think LB and CB should be solid, despite losing King. Special teams is being re-worked, and I think we'll be fine there. To be honest, I don't know what we bring just yet, because of all the changes. Should be an interesting year.

That's funny. I remember watching us beat them in 2014. Don't know what game you were watching.

Key players to look for:

-DE incoming freshmen AJ Espenesa Legit as they come and a true 5 star prospect, dominated fellow incoming freshmen O-lineman at Army game I believe

-James Butler, senior transfer RB. Legit speed, power and overall athletic ability. Also good with catching the ball. Getting him and Wadley on the field at the same time could spell doom for many opposing defenses.

-TE Noah Fant, I'm sure you're familiar with him. He got a lot of valuable playing time last year, and looks to be the number one next fall.

-WR Vandeberg, he returns after receiving his medical redshirt. Huge key to the offense this season, as he's one of the better WR's we've had in awhile and a team leader.

-Anthony Nelson, DE, big strong, and was pretty successful last year, best DE we've had since Drew Ott.

-Josey Jewell, MLB, perhaps the best in the conference and one of the best in the nation hands down. As long as he stays healthy, the D should be decent at worst.

-Nate Stanley, QB, big, HUGE arm, and very smart. Actually over took senior Wiegers last year to take the 2nd spot behind Beathard. Though he is in a battle this year for the starting spot with the same guy, word is, is that his upside is huge and the coaches are VERY high on him.

I believe Eric Crouch would say...YES!!! Winking

QB situation appears to be very good. First time in years and years we have a true QB plus a good back up.

Have some holes in the roster with no experience or limited talent. Will struggle with pass rush. No proven TE. Have questions about how good our O-Line will be. Lots of young players and Riley is really loading the roster up with some very impressive talent.

Offense should be salty and create lots of matchup problems for opposing defenses. Our D was switched to a 3-4 when Diacco was brought in. Players seem to be buying in and hearing good things. But a big difference between being good in practice and being good against a quality opponent.

Hmmmm..the 3-4 is interesting. I've worried about the Diaco hire, as he's proven commodity. Who's the QB said to be? What is his skill set?

Tanner Lee. Reading defenses and can make all the throws. Reports are it is his leadership that sets him apart from everyone else.

Nice, he looks pretty comparable to Stanley but with that ol' so crucial bit of experience behind his back.

If you or anyone else reading this thread internally scoffed at the OP's representation of a transfer RB from Nevada nobody's heard of as being a stud in the making, then calling Nebraska's situation at QB as "very good" cannot be true.

Nebraska intends to start a statistically-middling transfer QB in game 1, backed up by young kids who've never taken a snap. Did the white team in spring do something I missed?

There might be valid reasons for any or all of that - Tulane things - but "very good plus a good back up" is waaay out over the front of skis at this point.

They are trying to bring their little circle jerk this direction. I am assuming @percyland and his popeye forearms and his GI Joe kung fu grip is starting to take its toll.

I am begging the Iowa board to take these fools back

I'm not one for hyping players, but there has to be a reason NFL scouts really like Tanner Lee. He is also one of 47 candidates on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm watch list...without ever taking a snap at Nebraska.

Why do I still chuckle every time I see this damn response?!!
Because it is about as right as rain. :) They always like to talk tough after a more than one year winning streak against anybody but their trophy case is as empty as a prom queen's promises when she asks to bring her boyfriend along on a date.

Not sure, but the last 4 years should have made you react differently.

Touchy touchy.. The reason why I laugh is because Pelini The Crutch puts that exact same response if anything remotely references Iowa. He's been doing it for months, and does it to be funny...and it works. If someone said that they had the opportunity to see the U.S.S. Iowa while on vacation, or if someone said they went to the casino in Onawa, IA...he would respond with "Iowa sucks." He might even pull out an "Iowa sucks" if someone said that they were driving to Chicago for the weekend, because it would mean they would be driving through Iowa to get there. :D

I worry we could be very vulnerable to the run since we will be in a 3-4 defense. Iowa may be able to run the ball 3-5 yards a pop all day long on us, at home in Lincoln. That would be embarrassing to the older fan base. Not sure what the final score would look like though.

Iowa fans are insufferable, the loss by Nebraska last season is unacceptable as iowas offense was a complete POS, see Rutgers game and Minnesota game in addition to the games they lost. Wisconsin and Nebraska will win the west 70% of the time, leaving Iowa and the rest to split the remaining 30%.

It is obviously much easier to just type Iowa sucks.

Perhaps you are new to this football thing at Nebraska and the QB situation created by Bo Pelini. We are use to having RB's who can't throw playing QB but at least we had Walk-Ons as our #2's. When people talk about our QB's and use terms like "Arm Punt" and "Yolo Bomb" generally that is a poor reflection on a QB's passing skills and not meant as a compliment.

Our new QB Lee appears to be the real deal. Has done great at the Manning passing academy and NFL scouts are already watching him closely. Big kid, started for 2 years, goes through progressions, natural leader plus can make all of the throws. Now we do need to see how he does when the bullets fly but so far from what we have seen QB might be one of our least worried about positions. By our standards O'Brien is an amazing back up as he can walk and chew gum at the same time. Plus he can throw a ball more than 16 yards. And we do have Gebbia redshirting, he only threw something like 54 touchdowns last year so he is either very lucky or a decent passer. This is the best QB stable we have had in a long long time.

Read your response again and tell me where, factually, you find "very good." As in "very good non-aspirational facts."

We see Lee "appears to be the real deal." Though "We need to see how he does when the bullets fly." Then, "an amazing backup [because] he can walk and chew gum at the same time."

Dear god get ahold of your Kool Aid.

If our OL and DL can play we will be better than the past 5 hrs easily. That is yet to be seen. Lee has NFL arm and if he has time will shred folks, if not we will struggle big time.

You're probably right about Wisconsin and Nebraska combining for 70%. With Wisconsin being 60% of that and Nebraksa 10%.

Even in your fantasy Nebraksa isn't as good as Wisconsin.
Right and never said they were at this point. We huskers fans are very realistic about the state of husker football, you hawk fans are an insufferable bunch who cannot accept that Iowa will more often than not be 3rd or 4th best in the B1G west. Percyland crawl back to the myopic hawk board where you belong.

VERY realistic about the current state of Husker football. LOL.

Says the team the past 4 years in their division has finished 3,4,3,3.

Calm down "Blue Chip" and pray you beat Northwestern this year.

Funny for an Iowa fan to mention Northwestern, a team Iowa lost to and the huskers beat in 2016. Classic Iowa fan move to cherry pick stats and then cannot even get those cherry picked stats correct, the official record states the following as to where the huskers finished since 2011: 3, 1, T2, T2, 4, T2. Perception is reality and the perception of Iowa football outside of eastern Iowa is that they will more often then not be 3rd or 4th best team in BT west. The next time you bring something relevant to the conversation on this board will be the first time.

One thing is certain, a 7-6 season with a 6th straight bowl loss for Iowa will result in KF and BF getting raises and extensions through 2030.
