You put alot of work into that. Some thoughts:

TE: I find it hard to believe Fidone won't be the starter.

WR: Going to need more depth. Others will have to work their way into back-up roles. It would be nice if they were talented young kids like Coleman and Bell.

OL: We could actually be deep with experienced players by next year.

DL: I think Nash starts an NT and is backed up by Buckley.

LB: Heinrich? Ugh. I would like to see that LB spot opposite of Sherman to be more of a hybrid DE like Butler, maybe Princewell in passing situations.

I also wonder who from that list has retired that we don't yet know about.

100% agree with everything you said

specifically the LB/TE comments

I actually feel pretty good about WR. Experienced and good but not super talented. Something went terribly wrong if Fidone or Gilbert isn't starting at TE.

Under this scenario I assume Robinson would be in the middle. Ugh. Such a waste. I had hopes he would be our pass rushing DE.

Also, seems to be a lack of explosive players on D. Hopefully some young/new guys are playmakers.

  • Fidone will start at TE
  • Nash will start in the middle (cannot start two true freshman in the B10)
In comparison to most other B10 schools our WR situation currently isn't bad. We have four guys who have PT at P5 schools with a solid true freshman coming in who will play.

I would still like the staff to get a portal DL and interior OL. Wouldn't hurt to get an inside LB as well.

We have 5 WR with P5 experience, 4 with starting experience. Kemp, Fleeks, Betts, Washington have all started. IGC hasn't.

Imagine where they'd be if Rhule didn't convince IGC and Betts to come back.

I agree that it is a strong possibility that Boekircher starts at the beginning of the year until the others get up to speed.

I also agree with Heinrich. It's hard to unseat a guy with his production.

I don’t think he’s been 100% healthy for a whole season. It will be interesting to see what he does this fall.

RB and WR wont matter.

Fidone will play a lot regardless of whether he starts.
D Line has a bright future.

Glad to see Gbayor still here

The DL projection made me scratch my head a bit (2 true frosh starters?) but we at least have a few bodies (even if a little undersized) to compete for their role in the fall.

I think 1-2 LBs and 2+ DBs will be portal or retire soon.

It’s showtime for Rhule and Co. to mold this ragtag crew into winners.

It’s only a matter of time, but Fidone will eventually be the starting TE..

Have my doubts about Henrich coming back from injury when he wasn’t the fastest LBer in the first place.

Malachi Coleman will be one of our top 4 receivers he has the biggest upside of any of the Freshman stepping on campus..

I hate to say it, but I feel MC will be hurt a lot. Just going off his HS career and now track. Kid is always hurt and sitting out.

Does anyone know if Gabe Ervin has a drivers license? With his vision he really shouldn’t be driving. If Mr 2.2 YPC is starting, god save us.

Best players should play regardless of class. N hasn't won anything with the starter's from the last few years for any position to be guaranteed. Players like Henrich, Farmer, T.Rob, Gifford, Reimer or whoever else has played a lot should be on the clock. That's the only way to breed true competition.

I swear if Frost was still here they'd be starting regardless and Prince Will, Lenhardt, Butler, Collier, Sherman, Borders, Jeudy would probably be nowhere to be found.

Lets see.. You have the number 1 tight end recruit in the nation 2 years ago. And the highest rated TE recruit in possibly history on the team. A kid from some some small town in Nebraska is projected to start? C'mon man. That is a red flag there.

I hear ya. I think this is just where they're at right now. Boerkircher is more of a proven commodity. He played in every game last year while Fidone has only played a handful of snaps in two years and Gilbert played in 3(?) games last year. I think most of us anticipate Fidone and Gilbert quickly getting up to speed and becoming factors in the fall.

Boerkircher is an in line TE and Fidone is more of a flex TE who they’ll split out more. Gilbert just got here. Right now if we come out to start a game wanting to establish the run Boerkircher is probably going to be in the game. He’s earned the right to be on top the depth chart but I don’t think that’s going to mean he gets more touches than Fidone.

Sherman said the opposite in his eval. “If the Huskers need a play to be made at TE, they’ll turn to Boerkircher.”

Had the longest reception in the spring game

Neither highly rated recruit has played any football in 2 years

Even though they looked good in the spring, anyone else find it surprising that both Lenhardt and Umanmielen are projected as starters over the more experienced Gunnerson and Jeudy?

As I posted, Boerkircher earned his spot. That said he’s not going to scare any DCs with his speed. He’s a solid player but Fidone can take to the house a catch like Boerkircher had for a big gain in the spring game. We’ll see how it shakes out.
