Big 10 preseason media poll

If you look past the final scores, you’ll realize this comment is off base.
I mean, this is like saying a girl or guy has a great personality when you are trying to set up one of your friends.

The teams that destroyed Iowa last season STILL played more conservative on offense because the game was over before it started and they still beat the shit out of your team and that lame ass defense.

You guys are going back to Danny Hope and Hazel? Was that his name?

No more weak as division to play in each season...

What’s Hope and Hazel have to do with anything? They aren’t at all related to the present day. Literall nothing is the same. Once Purdue university president changed and supported sports vs took money from athletics, things changed. For the better. Not sure what weak division has to do with anything. But same is true for Nebraska.

You going to provide some data for these claims you made or just say Purdue is bad at football? Even though they’ve been better than Nebraska for the better part of the last 5 ish years. 8 years and counting without a bowl? Why is Walter’s a bad coach?

For starters, he lost to Nebraska last year. And as you point out, Purdue is better than Nebraska the last 5 years, and yet, he still lost.

That’s pretty damning evidence.

Why? Do only bad coaches lose to NU?

We can’t beat good coaches?

Bit of a self own here, Timbo

Thanks for waiting for me to post. you’ve had plenty of opportunities to respond to any post in this thread, but within 5 minutes of my post you single me out.

Am I on your watch list or something?

Nope.

Care to answer my question?

Why does every coach Rhule beats have to be bad? I thought he was a good coach? Can he not beat good coaches?

Are you 6 years old and not able to understand simple logic?

Boiler claims Purdue has been better than Nebraska, and claims his first year coach is better than the previous coach at Purdue. And yet the first year coach couldn’t beat Nebraska’s first year coach, even though Purdue has been better.

It really isn’t rocket science. I assumed you understood football better. Now I’m beginning to wonder.

I think the issue here is I do understand logic, and the logic you’re attempting to use isn’t quite making the point you’re trying to.

Losing to Nebraska isn’t “damning evidence” that he’s a bad coach. At least I hope it’s not.

Sorry, Tim. Always next time.

Walter's, in his career as a head coach, has never had a winning season. Ever.

I’m going to guess Nebraska had a much better roster last year. I think Purdue started their starting center at RT and Hudson couldn’t lift his arms above his shoulders that game. Might have been starting a WR at DB as well. Full rebuild for Walter’s.

Purdue game was probably our best last year

Too bad satt ran our best player into the ground for no reason during it and we couldn’t use it to keep our momentum rolling

Help me understand. If he’s a good coach, why wasn’t he able to take advantage of the gifts we gave Purdue? We turned it over 4 times. Other teams we played took advantage of our turnovers. I’m not saying anything about Rhule, you made that assumption yourself. I’m talking about all of the gifts in game that Michigan state, Wisconsin and Iowa used to their advantage. Why didn’t Purdue?

Our opponents knew all they had to do was wait for Nebraska to self destruct. And time and again, that’s what happened. But not Purdue’s coach…

We sucked enough last year that we failed to go bowling yet again. But we beat Purdue.

But good for you. Boiler asked what made Walters a bad coach, I mentioned that he lost to a Nebraska team that the previous coach had no trouble beating.

And you managed to start a pissing war with me like always. So consider this my last post explaining my position to you. Go ahead and respond if you’d like, I’ve been clear enough. No need to say anymore to you.

I was at that game...we left a littler early to go hit the bars and from leaving the game to getting to the bars...PU scored like twice, I think Sims fumbled for a TD?

They scored their only points off turnovers

It’s okay to not understand. It seems to be your default setting.

Then you lash out when people try to help you be a better poster instead of reflecting and improving.

We played our best game of the season against Purdue. We had all our guys, including our QB who made the offense go. He hit a beauty and we got a big special teams play. We did not suck during that game like we did all of November.

You provided a horrible example that goes against all the “full rebuild”, “year zero” rhetoric that is used conveniently when we lose while at the same time undermining our staff and program by saying only bad teams lose to us.

Set your emotions aside and read what I’m typing with an ounce of objectivity and perhaps the light will come on.

kong, couple of things.

Is it all our obligations to make others better posters so they can better reflect and improve on how they post thoughts?

Or can we just allow people to post and choose what they actually think even if its not in agreement with you?

If people like what you or tim says, they can give you a "Like". If they don't like it or disagree, they can choose to post a differing thought or just ignore the post.

Each of you have many more reactions scores than you have posts, so clearly there are others that agree with each of you on different topics. When I see a forum poster who has 5,000 posts and 3,000 reactions scores, that usually tells me he/she doesn't make many strong points.

There is ample evidence on this board.

No need to educate me. Again, have a nice day.

Could it be that I’m correct? Your post undermined our program.

Your unwillingness to internalize has likely stalled you out in more places than this board.

We are not the litmus test for “bad” coaches (hopefully).

Nothing you or I do makes this a better board than when we found it.
It becomes a better board when posters feel free to post whatever they want about whatever topic they choose, without being verbally acosted for their views.

If posters have what you or I feel are the wrong ideas or beliefs about something, they are entitled to those views, regardless if you or I disagree with them. The object of a public forum should not be to try to get people to change what they actually believe.

We won’t continue to be the litmus test. But you yourself have commented repeatedly on how bad we’ve been the last several years. If Purdue can’t beat a team that turns it over 4 times, that’s some bad coaching. I don’t understand why you can’t get this. This was a one off. You have made it into a blanket statement. That was never the intention. That’s classic Kong twisting the words of another poster to attempt to get them to bite. And unfortunately, yet again, I have.

Instead of trolling husker posters, which you do at a high rate, use your energy against opposing fans. You don’t have to be the husker poster czar of this board.

Your response to him reads like a literal troll of Husker fans.

“You lost to us, thus your coach must be bad”.

I just wish you could take your Kong goggles off long enough to see it.

With that in mind, and slightly off-topic, I'm about a day or so away from being finished with the spreadsheet I'm doing for the upcoming football season.

Looks like I'm currently at 11 positive and 3 negative teams that have recurring patterns. In other words, I'm going to primarily focus on 14 teams this year in my parlay wagering. All the while, I'm mindful what happened in '22 and '23 have no bearing on what will happen in '24, but could repeat based on 2 years data. It's a small sample, but some teams are really good or really bad for 2 consecutive years.

I'm using the same 10 categories for all the teams. As soon as I get the '22 season finished, I'll see if there's a way you can DM me and I'll copy it to you to see if it can help this season. Of the teams I've landed on, they have either covered or failed to cover by more than a touchdown, so there is a margin of error built in. I wasn't interested in a team that was 3-0 ATS but only covered an average of .8 or 1.2 ppg. that's too tight of a fit for me.

Obviously, I'm not gonna post it in the room, although, week-to-week I will post some numbers that may/may not help others in deciding on certain teams. I'm more inclined to send it to someone who I know is gonna play a lot of games during the year, with or without my input.

In football it's always an unknown due to coaching changes, loss of a good QB, the transfer portal, how easy or demanding their schedule is, etc. My methodology follows my horseracing thought patterns in that some trainers have done the same thing for years and years and years and continue to excel in a certain category.

The same is "kinda" true with teams that are coached by certain guys. I'm sure I'll just dip my toes in the betting pools early in the season until those same patterns emerge (if they do).

You were talking about how the Iowa defense sucks against good offenses. Thats clearly incorrect if you look past the final score. Don’t be lazy.

Outscored 92-0 by three teams with a pulse, what does destroyed look like to you SWIowa?
He didn’t say teams with a pulse. He said “offenses” with a pulse in reference to Iowa’s defense being overrated. When the offense throws multiple pick sixes, and literally gives the ball to the opposing offense inside the defenses 5 yard line numerous times; that’s not on the defense.

Now, go look at those numbers compared to those teams season averages. Include every other team on Iowa’s schedule last year. I’ll give you the answer….every single team Iowa played last year was held under their scoring and yard per game average…..by a lot.

At this point, the only 2 Big 12 teams I focused on were KU and KSU, however, Baylor has some real strong negative patterns that I haven't fully researched. No doubt, teams that fail to cover can be just as good a play as those who do.

Teams like Miami (OH), Jacksonville St., and UNLV were sneaky good plays last year, but you have to stay in the right category in the right type of locale.

I already explained why.

Good teams KNOW they don't have to be as aggressive when facing iowa, they know the game is over before it starts.

Once they have that 10 point lead, the game is over, it changes how you play the game.

Plus, in those games, iowa also knows it is over, so they just keep running the ball, going 3 and our, punting and eating as much cock...errrr. clock as possible.

Oh now you are off the Brohm train? You sucked him off a touted his recruits on this board for like 6 years and now it is his fault? Walters may be a good coach, but he probably won't ever be good at Purdue. Recruits out there aren't looking to come to Purdue. You may get a few every now and then, but far from a place big times kids want to come. Just not a football power. Basketball yes, football no.

Also, your turf sucks because every school complains about it and it gets people hurt. I know a ton of former players and they all said Purdue is the worst place to play turf wise. Holes, bumps, etc. Terrible..
