Ben Sasse leaving FL

Agreed. And I will admit that he did one hell of a job as the president at a once struggling Midland College.
He handled the student riots on the Israel/Palestine issue really well too. He didn't allow the mob to take over the university.

My take: when Sasse was first running for congress, he was a very smart dude who knew history. He had the potential to be a really good congressman. When he got elected, his independence disappeared. He was too conservative for the elites and too elite for the conservatives. Thus, he made everyone mad at him — and had no cache to overcome.

Once he left congress to go to UF, he became independent again. Not surprisingly, he seemed to make reasonable decisions.

Pretty close. Close but not quite

Not a sasse supporter but if the alligator is like most universities newspapers, of course they're going to be critical of administration especially when talking cuts.

In this case, sasse was not a popular choice by faculty or students due to his party affiliation. I'll venture to say that the alligator has been anti sasse for quite a while and has been working long and hard against him

He shouldn't be funneling money to anybody. Giving your buddies high paying jobs that don't help the institution or jobs they aren't qualified for is bad. Crazy to think not everybody doesn't immediately think so.
Who did Sasse "funnel money" to?

If his buddies did their jobs well to help UF, what's the problem?

I wouldn't call it funneling.

Like I said, I'm NOT a Ben sasse fan. But put yourself in his shoes. Wouldn't you hire staffers that you've worked with if they were good at their job 🤔. If you worked for a consulting company and thought highly of them, wouldn't you hire them if you needed one 🤔

I guess I would go with who I know and trust.

Sasse invented new jobs for his pals and they didn’t even have to move to Florida. He tripled what his predecessor spent in a year and he gave a consulting firm 7.5 million for “work” that nobody can see. I know everyone likes to make excuses for their side of the political aisle, but if you can’t see this as grifting you’re way too drunk on kool aid.

New positions are "invented" all the time. If those new positions were an asset & helped UF, then what's the issue?

Many jobs can be done remotely. Why do they have to reside in Florida?

Just because a student newspaper can't find out what these people do, doesn't mean they just getting paid to do nothing. Do people honestly think the University itself doesn't check on these things? Do they believe there's zero oversight on what Ben Sasse does / doesn't do?

What exactly is wrong with Sasse other than he’s not a Trump sycophant?
He actually is, though. Despite anything Sasse said while in office, he was voting with Trump at all times. Only voted to impeach when he had one foot out the door and needed the PR. Other than that, the practice of running higher eduction like the mob and bilking all of the money out while not doing any actual work was NOT invented by Sasse. It certainly isn't a practice isolated to a political party, that shit's been going on forever all across the spectrum.

Did you read the contracts or know anything about them? Go through their budgets, or just believed an author that seemed really butt hurt about staff not living in Gainesville. The value of their homes was important to this story.
Couldn't be the comprehensive review toward strategic priorities from over 200 campus stakeholders to allocate resources. These are hundreds of millions of dollars. Their athletic department took in another 30 million.

This would only be true if Sasse changed how he voted because of Trump.

He wasn't voting with Trump because of Trump. He was voting with Trump because he believed or disbelieved in the policy he was voting for or against.

I think drubendall is correct.

Can you give the board your Cliff notes on the contracts and budgets as time permits? Thanks
