5 for 5!! All N!!

We need a qb or none of it works. Raiola has the talent, I worry about the game experience and him being able to read a defense and not get baited. We’ll see
We led the country in turnovers. We've been the worst turnover team for years. How someone could worry about freshman mistakes by a 5 star qb that literally the entire country wanted is beyond me. What's the downside? He throws picks while learning to be a stud qb? As opposed to Sims, or Purdy, or Haarberg?

It's all nice on paper , so let's enjoy it while reality isn't awake.
This take is so played out here and the Iowa board. The same people who say this are the same people saying we need studs to compete and be what we want to be. Then they downplay it when we get studs.

I get it, we’ve been garbage for a long time - but ultimately it lands on coaching. Rhule is addressing real needs in the offseason. QB1 in the entire country, bigger strong wr receivers, additional RB and now likely a strong coaching addition to assist the offense.

Yes it needs to translate, yes we’ve had good offseasons but in reality this Rhule’s first and there are lot of players and coaches alike that are excited to be a part of what this coach is doing. Obviously there are things happening behind the scenes that players and their advisors can plainly see that this thing is turning around.

You’re missing context. My post was in response to someone saying we’re a 10 win team and possible playoff contender. Will we be better this year? Almost certainly. But getting to 10 wins and a playoff with a harder schedule will require good to great qb play…hence the worry

The problem I see is that he's over qualified to be a qb coach. Guys like that want to be HC even if at North Texas. So he's likely a rental. Which makes me think he's coming as an analyst.
You never know, maybe he just doesn’t want to be a HC anymore and in his heart he was enjoying football the most when just focused on offensive scheme and design.

I simply don't buy into any kind of hype, it's proven unhealthy for Nebraska fans. It's spectacularly stupid at this point but go ahead if it makes you feel good super fan.

My guess is this is just something temporary to allow him to reset and wait for a HC offer he wants. Just a guess though.

I get it, but when was the last time Nebraska brought in a top 5 player, the top QB in the nation, the best OLine haul in the internet era, etc.?

This doesn’t feel even a little bit different from other years for you? Next fall may be more of the same, I get it, but part of the joy of being a fan happens even when the games aren’t being played, and again, this feels different than previous years. But if you want to be a stick in the mud if it makes you feel good, go ahead bandwagon.

For me, this staff 100 percent feels different. It feels like we have competent adults in charge. But the problem is that the fanbase is the same. Will we give him time to build if on field results lag a year or two behind the off field results? Going into year two with likely a true freshman qb being the front runner for the starting spot feels like a recipe for more growing pains…which I’m fine with but will the fanbase as a whole be?

I think your misunderstanding my point.

Upside being an upward movement (from point a to point B)…the seasoned all conference Vet is coming in at a high level. So his window to raise his game/ upward movement of his current game is much smaller than a guys who really hasn’t played football in 2 years due to injuries.

Don’t take it as a negative. If Banks plays the same sort of ball he has @ Wake Forest, find by me. I’d take that sort of production. In other words, I’m happy if Banks maintains his current game wouldn’t be happy if Neyor did
I think the seasoned all conference vet is already at a point higher than Neyor can reach. So no, I didn’t miss your point.

Don't think you have me figured out because I'm not all Rah, rah. I can process what's going on just fine and it doesn't mean I have to join you in jubilation. Talk to me next December. It's hard to believe fans talk shit on Iowa boards or talk of what we're going to do. Results is the only thing that will end the so called debate. Good God enough talk. I hear the same old shit on this board every year , get all pumped up and then all pissed off by November because your expectations are built on hope . I'm all N with Rhule but next year better yield results. Recruiting rankings mean nothing to me at this point as a Husker fan. I'm not a Debbie Downer just a adult that knows talk means nothing. I can see the light and proceed with caution at the same time.

Yeah I’m kind of over worrying about it too much. He’ll make mistakes but surely no more than we saw this last year. Hopefully he gets us to 6-7 Ws.

It may help but most teams have a qb coach and yet most true freshmen struggle. Nothing makes up for lack of game experience.

I think I’ve got a pretty good read on you, thanks.

No one’s holding a gun to your head forcing you to read and respond to theses posts. You have chosen to do so of your own accord. So if I understand you correctly, you don’t like optimism, and so we shouldn’t talk optimism, because you don’t like that.

Rather than squelch convo here, maybe just ignore? If you choose to complain about certain fans and their optimism, don’t be surprised that they may call you a Debbie downer despite your protestations. You may not like it, but you didn’t need to call these fans out for being optimistic in the first place.

For the record, I get it, hope gets you nothing if it doesn’t pan out. But is it that hard to comprehend that some posters live this way? I’m not asking you to join me in jubilation. But no need to stop me from having some jubilation.

my comment has nothing to do with DR, who has already undoubtedly been more well coached than every quarterback we've started for the past 6 years
Then elaborate as to what you meant because discussing the results of our season will hinge on the play of DR seems to be directly related to your follow up.

Also…you think DR got better qb coaching at 3 separate high schools compared to what Nebraska had last year? Lol. Or are you talking about his private qb workouts, which likely do not involve any real in game coaching and film study?

DR will have growing pains. obviously. it's good that next year's record doesn't matter one bit.

however, if he's going to be here and be performing at a level we'll expect in 2026 when wins will matter, he'll need a QB coach. we don't have one of those.

Also…you think DR got better qb coaching at 3 separate high schools compared to what Nebraska had last year? Lol.
yes. because we did not employ a QB coach to focus on QB fundamentals/mechanics last year. our guys got as close to zero of that kind of coaching as anyone in the country.

we had an Xs & Os OC running that room, focusing mostly on in-game coaching and film study. (per a QB in that room).

I’m not going to be gloomy about getting good players on the roster. The Dowdell kid was the #6 RB and #109 overall for the 23 class. The kid from WY/TX effectively replaces Washington and is probably an upgrade if his knee is OK. NU signed a solid Oline class. This would a very good class without Raiola (#2 natl, #1 QB), but he’s of course joining the team. These are the kind of players that would have gone elsewhere under the prior staff. The Skullet possibly joining the staff as well. NU winning the offseason. Some day that is going to carry over to the fall.

I'm not so much worried about DR having growing pains next year. I'm worried about Satt and Rhule putting him in situations leading to failure. Such as chosing to throw balls into the EZ late in games when bleeding the clock and kicking a FG will do.

No I don't know this. Deboer took over a losing program and has gotten his team into the national championship game in year 2. Winners win. Losers make excuses.
Wasn't there a coach that took an 0-12 team to undefeated in 2 years? We should look his way...

Common denominator is that they had amazing qbs. We shall see how Washington does next season.

Are you familiar with bell curves?

Where do you think this outcome rates on a bell curve over the last 5, 10, 15, or 20 years?

You mean the gaussian probability distribution and where this outcome falls as the number of standard deviations away from the mean?

Being rational, mature, tempering expectations, waiting for results before getting too excited so as not to be fooled by “winning the offseason” again, objectivity is “hating Nebraska”?

Neyor is the 317th ranked player in the portal and Texas’ 6th string WR. Dowdell is the 121st ranked player in the portal and Oregon’s 4th string RB. We have the 54th ranked portal class right now. Yet we’ve got people on here dropping “boom” and “huge” and talking playoffs.

Seems to me the only people who are halfway logical in this thread are the ones who aren’t getting too overly excited yet…or, I guess “hating Nebraska” in your world.

(cue childish unrelated Deion response from you in 5, 4, 3, 2…)

Truth is NU doesn’t have much of a portal in class, as the recruiting class was large and retention was high. So that 54 ranking is meaningless. One also doesn’t have to dig very deep to see the cases of the two players you mentioned. If Dowdell was coming out of HS this year and had signed, we’d be happy we were getting the #6 RB recruit. The other kid had great productivity at Wyoming before he ganked his knee. I’m thinking Neyor’s is an NIL only deal.
So NU is going to get a few kids that will make the team better. Playoffs? Likely not. But the roster is better than it was a month ago.

You're 100% correct with everything you're saying. Couldn't agree more. Was just calling someone out for calling someone a Husker hater just because he's rightly tempering his excitement. Just get tired of that mentality around here sometimes. Being objective doesn't make you a hater, or a troll, or whatever else these guys come up with. It makes you rational. It takes all types to make this place entertaining and to be able to have discussions about Nebraska football. The posters who constantly insist everyone must be all sunshine all the time with their groupthink cancel culture mentality get a little exhausting.

Then why come here if it's so bad? Stay away until the results your looking for exist and then join in. No need to stomp on everyone else's feeling of an upward swing.

Here we go again, if I bring facts to light it's doom and gloom .....ruining joy ? Let me crush you.....there is no Santa.
Facts
NU finished 5-7. Disappointing, but in the rear view mirror.
NU is completing a very decent recruiting cycle. Awesome.
NU's 2024 season has yet to be played. We await with hope.

So we are going to be awesome around here for awhile.
