Hoiskers invade Madison as 7.5 underdogs

Yes he is!

I guess I don't understand why some fans are up in arms about Fred possibly getting canned, like, are they worried a new hire would also not make the BTT and the dance?

This how our fanbase is and always has been, and it’s probably not unique to Nebraska. Every coach we’ve ever fired, regardless of sport, (but I’m mostly thinking of football and basketball) have had a vocal minority/contingent that desperately want to bring the coach back no matter how terrible the results or how bleak the future looks. The nicer/more likeable the coach is the more vocal the minority is… I remember people being apoplectic about the prospect of firing Mike Riley after his 3rd season. Doc Sadler, Tim Miles etc… People actually wanted to give Frost more time fvcks sake.

We have some fans, especially female fans, that don’t think anyone should ever be fired as long as they think they like them personally. (which is odd considering most have never met these coaches personally) As if coaches should have a lifetime of opportunities to fix things next year, if they’re likeable.

We don’t have a PG that can do more than 1 thing, at least 1 thing well. That is a position where a PG with more than 1 skill (offensively) would make all the difference in the world.

As much as I disliked Chuckie Hepburn, if he would have come to Nebraska I think we have been top 25 most of the year.
Coach failure. Can't keep great Nebraska kids at Nebraska.

Collier, Sadler, and Miles all got 6-7 years, and Collier wasn't fired he quit to go back to Butler as AD. Fred's on his 6th year. If a coach is good, his record should speak for itself after that amount of time and it shouldn't be a giant head scratching mystery. We not talking about NU football firing coaches who went 9-3.

Neither did Creighton, for Hepburn or Sallis -- when they graduated HS and when they transferred to a new school. Creighton has a lot better recent history of getting those Nebraska guys. But I understand what you are saying. Same for Nebraskans who were not heavily recruited out of HS and then now have seemed to have exploded after being at mid-major schools (Tonje, Thomas, etc.).

Seems like Hoiberg is at least a well-respected coach in the business, they have decent assistant coaches, and there should be available NIL money. I don't think it is all Hoiberg, but maybe.

He is the head coach. Our team has come from terrible to less than good. He needs fired. period. Should have done it after Memphis last year.

It is for sure. And if this was year 3 you might say....well he's still building.... but this is too far in to use that excuse so who knows from here.

I think if Fred fails one can look back at the number of quality players coming out of Nebraska over the last 5 years and say, that not keeping them here was eventually his downfall.
I don’t think there is any “building” anymore and especially with Hoiberg. He’s been well known for churning his roster every year. He will need a bunch of talent next year.

I think our basketball fan base is so beat down that one appearance in the big dance every ten years is what we deserve.

If there is one silver lining in what’s happening now, it’s that most everyone will be gone at the end of the year.

This is probably pretty accurate.

It's tough to "build" anything in college athletics anymore but I get your point.

I think what you "build" now is that you will get good players in and win games. It is no longer about sitting for 3-4 years.

This is the tough part

That’s either an easy sell or a very hard one depending on the audience

This what I worry about. We have no momentum as a program, if we miss the B1G and/or NCAA tournament will Fred be able to sell Nebraska to good players who want and expect to play and win games in March? Sure, he and Dannen can probably sell the prospect of remaking the roster next year to fans, but we’re gonna have to vastly over pay for good players that have options.

Missing the B1G tournament after starting the year inside the top 40 NET/kenpom would be an abject disaster

I agree fans will gobble up whatever propaganda comes out and never put pressure on any coach to actually win

This board is unabashed proof of that

There are only two things that an AD pays attention to: 1) donor money and 2) butts in seats.

When you see those two things change, you will see I will change. Right now we have plenty of both.

Any rumors, or info, on whether something is happening inside the locker room? Seems hard to believe they make the run from January to December (covering both seasons), then completely and totally melt down. Not giving excuses but seems really weird. Wonder if we find out something after the season???

I expect there to be many, many excuses.
