15th Rank UCLA comes into the Vault now as 2.5 underdog

This has aged pretty poorly. Sam is the most active defender on the floor for either team, in any game.
Yep, I was wrong for this game. JMO, if NU wants to get to the next level (I.e.—not just making the tourney, but actually winning games)—SH/CJ should be bit players at most.)
I get Sam’s great plays get a lot of air time—would anyone like to dissect the plays where NU gets put at a disadvantage due to his lack of size/athleticism?? Also—You honestly think Sam was the best defender on the floor against MSU??

Huskers will get away with it, but they went to the Prevent Offense too early for my taste. Several possessions where they threw something up just to beat the clock.
Fred isn’t good at drawing up last second plays and managing an offense in the last minute. It looks like—run the clock down to 3-4 secs and heave up a shot.

I think CJ only played the last 30 seconds of the first half, but might be wrong on that. He only plays when we need to save fouls, so he is a small role player.

SH was one of a couple guys who played great defense today, although all of them did actually. His D and energy today was exactly what was needed. Helped maintained the intensity for the entire team. I don’t know if there are stats for this but I would venture a guess the Huskers are +points when he is in the game. If not, it has to be close.

That’s why I didn’t say best defender. I said most active and he is always that. I partially agree with you, he has to be a try-hard every second to deserve P4 minutes but he does that. He is very good at his specialty as a role player.

You can tell he tries his best to shut down this stigma of playing only because he’s Fred’s son. Can be a hell of a motivator.

Seems like every big win we get Sam makes a couple of big plays at critical times

At his size, he’s not playing at all unless he is very athletic or drains 3’s. He doesn’t do the latter. He’s plenty athletic, but he is undersized, which he makes up for a bit with his basketball IQ. We are lucky to have him off the bench.

I dont understand the dislike for Sam H. He is energy...not afraid to dive on the floor. Points don't always paint a complete picture. DEFENSE is key. What's up with those of you who don't think he deserves playing time?
His play ratcheted others play up a couple years ago and has been a culture changer. A lot less ME ball being played. Hopefully that continues after he's gone

CJ literally is barely seeing time. They throw him in when they don’t want anyone else to build up fouls but want defense. I’m not even sure what you are saying in regards to that.

Sam is the glue player most teams have. Not everyone on the team is 6’6, many of the top teams have role players.

Between his hustle, ball handling, making free throws and basketball IQ he needs to be on the floor during crunch time down the stretch. He delivered again today. He can be trusted to help find the team a way to pull out a tough victory.

You're exactly right. I hadn't watched a single game this season. I commented to my friends about how "headband guy" really picked things up. IMO, the coach's son might not have the ability that some of the other players have but he has far more knowledge. 🤷‍♂️

Teams that desire to win a bunch of games need an energy guy. The coach’s kid knows the game plan.
