Gophers enter the Vault as 7.5 underdog

Gary and Worster are NU’s best defenders but it’s hard to put Worster out there when you need offense. I’m certain that’s why Essigian played so much in the second half. Unfortunately, he can’t guard a fence post.
That’s the reason Essegian didn’t play that much for Wisconsin last year. Fred had to know that.

With a non-conference schedule that’s anyhing but cowardly this loss means a bit less

Should be a lesson to our football coach, but won’t be

Edit: I misunderstood his post. I offer my apologies

Basketball non-con schedule was pretty soft. You going to brag about playing St Mary’s? Because only them and Creighton are ok. If you are comparing to most of the non-con schedules under Fred then yeah this years was tough. It has been the last 3 games that have been the biggest blows. Oh and if you reply be sure to make another jab at the football coach for something he didn’t decide.

I read that to mean the non-conference schedule WAS cowardly. In other words,

“If our non-conference schedule wasn’t so cowardly, this loss means a bit less”

Could be wrong, but that’s how I read it.

You are one strange dude
Our football coach thinks his (and our) best shot is to backdoor into meaningful football via playing nobody

Fred’s been doing this for years with zilch to show for it

Perhaps Rhule’s next move will be changing either Scarlet or Cream to Underbelly Yellow

But, but…. It had the “20 wins” crowd so excited! They were partying like it was 1997.
Same assholes who think it’s smart to dodge any semblance of football competition in September because UCLA or northwestern are lurking in November

My question is when Nebraska went ahead in the closing seconds why didn’t we foul before the guy shoots the game winner, Minnesota is terrible free throw shooter
I said the same damn thing. Foul right away if they make both we still have enough to go down and score ourselves.😡

Why did we leave so much time on the clock. Brice needed to drive to the hoop with about 6 seconds left . That gives us enough time if he misses we get the rebound and put in.

That's a great strategy if the game was tied, but it wasn't. When you're trailing, you need to try to score when you have the opportunity. If Minnesota rebounds the miss, they're still up by one and THEN you foul to extend the game.

This game wasn't lost in the final seconds - it was lost in that crappy and lifeless first half, when the Huskers looked half-asleep.

Without question the boys played terrible that 1st half.

I stand behind it. Gophers are the worst FT shooting team in the league 66.6.
Well good for you. If Fred orders his team to foul and he loses the game because of it, it would have rightfully been derided as the most ridiculously stupid coaching decision of the entire college basketball season.

Huskers certainly could have defended it better, but do you seriously think the odds that kid knocking down that 3-pointer are better than 66%?

Are you serious? There are ZERO coaches in America that would foul in that situation. Honestly this might be the dumbest take in the history of the board.

Considering who they left open, YES.
Rather have had the ball in our hands the final 7 seconds.

Well NU had 4 seconds to work with after Rigsby hit the 3-pointer. Did the complete cluster**** that unfolded in that 4 seconds give you confidence that the Huskers would have regained the lead they gave away by intentionally fouling?

Ummm... Read the post I said "That is exactly how I see it" too. I was agreeing with schuele

IDK why we’re so focused on the non-con schedule? Was it great? No. Would I like to see a couple more marquee matchups? Yes. But is it the reason we’re likely going to miss the NCAA tournament? No.

We’re currently 7-11 in conference play and have lost 5 home games in conference. 3 of those home losses are to Rutgers, USC and Minnesota. 3 average to below average teams. We screwed the pooch in conference play, and if we don’t win the next two games, I’m not sure having one more quad 1 win (or loss) during the non-con would make a difference. I know the committee has never left out a team with 6 quad 1 wins, but we’ve only used this quad system for a handful of years. I just can’t see the committee putting a 7-13 (conference record) in the dance.

Like I said we made Rigsby look like he was 1st team All BIG
We didn’t make him…..we allowed him to. Another common theme over the years at Nebraska basketball, often times an opposing player has a career day against us. A guy or 2 yeah call it luck. But several guys says to me opponents know a great opportunity is in front of them and they go for it. We do nothing to stop them.

We’ll never know now.

The big mistake was Brice not staying in front of his guy on D. That forced others on D to scramble to help, leading to the shooter being wide open for a 3. Not sure if Brice was going for a steal on the inbounds pass, but that was a very poor decision by a seasoned vet. You have to stay in front on D, switch everything, and force the O to make a contested shot. The game was lost on the inbound pass…
