Football Today's Nebraska football rumors....

Unless you haven't been on the internet today you've heard by now a range of rumors surrounding the Nebraska football job. Here's what I feel comfortable reporting at this point.

There is not a full BOR meeting called today but there is an executive session that was called, Those are not subject to the same rules as what the LJS writer was alluding to earlier. It's also not entirely accurate that the BOR doesn't have anything to do with the coach search considering you do need approval for the money from them. Generally that's just a formality.

I am not hearing that we will get an announcement on the next coach today. I will say that Matt Rhule is one of the coaches still in play for the job as is Mickey Joseph and 2-3 others.

These things change very quickly and despite a long coaching search we have not had many rumor-filled days like today has been so far. Things are heating up though.

Buckle up.

Recruiting Visit Preview: Who Nebraska expects to host for the Minnesota game

Nebraska is hosting around 50 visitors again this weekend. There are several 2024s to watch and a key commit returning for a game. Hit the link....

Football Fisher on the radio: Hartzog the top dog on the production chart, and more

Nebraska corners coach Travis Fisher joined Sports Nightly on Thursday and had a cool story about Malcolm Hartzog from the preseason. Plus, a few more quick hits from the coach:

What is your prediction right now as to how this all plays out?

1. Head coach prediction
2. Staff quality prediction
3. Roster changes

I'm feeling cynical and lost right now so my predictions are:

1. Lance Leipold
2. Brings most of his KU staff, Mickey gets a token offer but decides not to stay
3. Huge roster turnover, need to try to assemble a recruiting class/transfer portal class from scratch

Recruiting Visitors this weekend for the Minnesota game

It's been a wild day but I didn't want the board to think I forgot the visit list/preview. I'm working on the full preview now and there are definitely some noteworthy names on the list.

2024 DB Mario Buford

2024 TE Jaden Reddell

2024 DB Caleb Wiliams

2024 OT Willie Goodacre

2024 OT Caleb Pyfrom

Name MJ already and get this thing rollin’

Haven’t seen anything that makes me think anyone else would be better. Campbell? No… LL? Not interested, not sure why, just a feeling. Rhule?… maybe

Let’s see what Mickey can do with his own hand-picked staff and a full couple of years of recruiting. I believe he’d quickly make staff changes that aren’t working and get it done at the highest level

I think we’d be hanging with OSU, Mich, and PSU within 3 yrs. Where we’re expected to be and should be each year

Quick Wikipedia Coach Review

Took the time to read the Wikipedia information on the following Coaches today:

Only 1 - Elite Coach - Urban Meyer

a). Career Record: 187-32
b). National Championships at Florida and Ohio State
c). 21 - Assistant Coaches who became NCAA or NFL head coaches

The Rest:

1). Lance Liepold
2). Dave Doeren
3). Bill O"Brien
4). Matt Campbell
5). Dave Aranda
6). Jamey Chadwell
7). Gary Patterson
8). Chris Klieman

9). Matt Rhule

When reviewing their history and records, Rhule and Klieman standout above the rest IMO. Rhule has built two College programs starting and finishing at the same place. Both following the same progression. He has about 7 years' experience as a College Head Coach. Klieman has been up and down a little with this year being by far his best.

Matt Rhule's identical success at two schools separate him from The Rest. Validated just by comparing Head Coaching records and reading their Bio's.

This is what you like to see

Rhule has a record of turning programs around and now that he's been an NFL HC that's a plus in recruiting that shouldn't be ignored.
