Just read that Luke Reimer is out for today's game. Damn.

The Carolina Panthers fired Matt Rhule earlier today, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Rhule is one of the top candidates who @Clint Cosgrove reported last month will be pursued by Nebraska.

Per multiple sources, Rhule’s camp will be pushing hard for him to be considered for the Nebraska job, and I expect contact to be made between him and Nebraska. He is likely to become a serious consideration for the Huskers’ job as the process moves forward.

Been waiting 8 years for this.

Gonna be a delicate balance assembling staff, preserving pieces of the roster, and pursuing new talent- all in tight windows of time.
Add in NIL deals (a potential advantage we have, relatively), and it all needs to come together fast to build a team for 2023.

1. Transfer portal opens 12/5/22 for 45 days through 1/18/23. Players entering early may give themselves the most options. Plus dead period runs 12/19-1/12. Gonna be a wild west sh*t storm of movement nationally.

2. Early signing day 12/21/22. This is later than most years, so we’re lucky on that front.
Players also now get second official visits when there’s a coaching change. That’s another bonus.

3. Contact period 11/28/22-12/17/22 (up to 6 in-person visits).

4. Dead period 12/18/22-1/12/23. And again 1/30/23-2/28/23.

5. National Signing Day 2/1/23.

It’s gonna be hard to put together much of a team for spring ball (keeping in mind they need to be enrolled for the semester first) while still keeping eyes looking forward to piece together a final roster for the Fall 2023 semester.

What if the Rhule stuff was thrown out by TA as a smokescreen for hiring Jeff Monken? Will you riot?

Most of the talk is on current/former coaches, with good reason. But it could be a coordinator. Here are some that I am interested in. A few have been talked about quite a bit already.

1. BOB - Two of the best coaches in the modern era keep hiring him. He understands pressure.
2. Todd Monken - Georgia OC with lots of pro and P5 experience.
3. Alex Grinch - USC DC with DC stints at OU and OSU. Young and hopefully hungry.
4. Jeff Grimes - OC Baylor. Lots of major P5 experience and importantly, offensive line coaching.

If anyone but Matt Rhule is named the Head Coach this and other sites will see the world as ending. Maybe its Fickell but who knows. Nobody has any actual information on anything. Trev has been working from home for the last 2-3 weeks and has kept this thing super tight. Maybe it will be Rhule or Fickell but outside of that the world shall end according to the message boards.

The more and more kiffin talks about how he is not taking the auburn job….the more I think he’s coming to Nebraska.


Either that or Trev just doesn’t make a hire and we end the program. That way we all get a one time pick at a new team and pretend none of this ever happened.

I was born in 1990. Some of my first memories were watching the Huskers. We were a juggernaut squad in the trenches.

How have we lost so much of our identity?

Fast forward 25 years, and the O-line and D-line is our biggest downfall. All-Americans that were 4 stars in high school that look helpless now starting on our team.

It’s been 20 years, if this hire doesn’t work out I believe it’s over or I’ll be dead by the time we’re back.
