Baseball Live Thread Game 36 FINAL: Iowa 6, Nebraska 1

Back on a Sunday for the series finale as Nebraska (21-13-1, 7-4) takes on Iowa (28-10, 6-5) as they Huskers look to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Hawkeyes. Missed yesterday but Jace Kaminska retired the first seven batters he faced, but then ran into trouble as he was pulled after allowing four runs in only three innings. Jackson Brockett dealt 1.2 shutout innings in relief, but Micheal Garza was hammered for four runs (three earned) in only 0.2 inning before Brett Sears bounced back with 2.2 scorless innings. The offense was ineffective against Iowa starter who put together a quality start by scattering three hits with one walks and five strikeouts across six innings.

On Friday, the Huskers allowed two five-run innings that led Iowa to an 11-6 victory as Emmett Olson was hammered in his second straight start. Here's that recap from Friday along with the series preview:

The series preview:

Today it'll be LHP Will Walsh (2-1, 3.04 ERA) vs. RHP Ty Langenberg (3-2, 4.87 ERA).

How do they look?

More athletic, faster, more aggressive.

Simms is by far the best QB out there. Thompson’s has a tough hill to climb. HH needs a position change.

Better defensive scheme

Still missing a lot of people who will be starters in the fall.

Looks like the Freshman DEs are making a mark.

There is no way to deny that you have to be concerned with Gilbert’s drops.

Not worried about the fumbles. Mostly from players who won’t play much. Cold day too.

It’s so hard to rate a team on a spring game. Are they all good? Do they all suck? You can’t tell that from a score. All you can do is look at how the players move. Last spring, my only comment was that the team looked like crap. They just look like a better coached team now.

Been gone for about 5.5 years, but I'm back in...

Hope all has been well... When Frost and company came from UCF, I had to step back from all forums and boards, as I was close to a couple coaches, one especially close as a long time personal friend. Shots at the staff or the offense were too much, too personal. Decided to come back on now that I have no remaining internal staff contacts, just secondary contacts around the program now. Never canceled, just separated for a while.

But what's happened with some of the old primary contributors, insiders (Sarasota, some of those guys)? Did a lot people leave for other boards or services? Is this still considered the top board, or is that now On3? What happened to the old insider Tunnel Talk articles? Any seminal moments since early 2018?

Glad to be back on.

Baseball Live Thread GAME 34 BSB FINAL: Iowa 11, Nebraska 6

Huge Big Ten series this weekend between Nebraska (21-11-1, 7-2) and Iowa (26-10, 4-5) as the two rivals kick off a three-game series in Iowa City. Despite having a B1G record under .500, the Hawkeyes have the top pitching staff in the conference and have a couple future MLB draft picks just like the Huskers. We were able to hear from a pair of Husker players along with Will Bolt about this weekend series and the status of the team as we head into the gauntlet of league play. Here's the What We Learned from earlier this week:

Tonight it's a premier pitching matchup as LHP Emmett Olson (5-1, 3.35 ERA) takes on flamethrower RHP Brody Brecht (3-2, 3.20 ERA). Super excited to see how this one turns out with two studs on the bump. Brecht is a projected first round pick in the 2024 MLB draft and can touch triple digits with his fastball. Here's the full series preview to get you set:

Lastly, with the spring game in Lincoln tomorrow, I'll be joining the rest of the Inside Nebraska staff at Memorial Stadium for coverage, so no baseball live thread from me tomorrow. I'll be back with my regular coverage on Sunday for the series finale.

Football Everything Matt Rhule said at the podium following spring game

Matt Rhule spoke for about 12 minutes after the game, giving his thoughts on how Jeff Sims handled himself today and throughout the spring, what he thinks of the team's ball security issues and plenty more.

OT: OK…was sent a music video a few weeks ago of one of the most amazing performances I’ve seen in a long time…

I am absolutely sure it’s not up the alley of most on this board when it comes to music, but it‘s an unbelievable work of song writing art about dealing with internal struggle, coping with self-doubt, and self-destructive tendencies which I’m sure everyone experiences to some degree.

First heard it a few weeks ago and it blew my mind. Decided I’d share, despite it not really having an insider’s board vibe… if you haven’t already heard it, give it a chance. It’s powerful.

***New Commit*** OLB Willis McGahee IV commits to Nebraska

Well this is a nice spring game surprise for the Huskers.

The Huskers gained a huge commitment from 3-star Miami OLB Willis McGahee ahead of the spring game. He's currently on campus to check out his now future school.

Nebraska needs to get more athletic at the second level if Tony White's 3-3-5 is going to work in Lincoln. We'll have much more on this commitment after the spring game.
