Recruiting Nebraska recruiting objectives for May

Starting up a new monthly series where I take a look at some recruiting objectives for the upcoming month. May is important to set the table for June which has become hugely important to everyone's recruiting efforts. Hit the link...

Rhule clearly sees the evolution of the QB position going on at the next level - it's why he wanted Sims

Players who can move in space, create +1 advantages, and still kill defenses over the top with long play action passes ... basically Rhule is targeting a Jalen Hurts type of QB and sees a lot of similarities between Sims and that type of QB IMO ... big arm, fast, can run power like Josh Allen, just do it all really

Whether Sims is that good is yet to be seen, but I think we held back a lot of the QB run game stuff in the Spring game and it will be unleashed this fall - b/c it adds a clear additional set of plays and advantages to our power based offense

80 players
- 16 used up eligibility
- 56 in the portal
+ 39 transfers
+ 20 Recruits

So number of players left who wore a Colorado uniform last season - 8
Players from Primes old school - 7
Number of players who transferred to Colorado that could have started on the team they left (Say 20%) - 6
Number of players who transferred to Colorado who couldn't have started for the team they left (80%) - 26

Number of freshmen who are below a 5.7 - 12

Total number who were smart enough to leave - 56

As of now, Prime will be starting the season with only around 6-12 proven P5 players. Just Damn.

How good is this year's VB team? Final 4 / Title Contender good?

It seems Cook has assembled one of his more talented rosters these last couple of years, and the depth on this year's squad is something we were all discussing when the #1 recruiting classes were being signed. Nice when it plays out like it should, or so it seems. I think most of these players from those super classes ARE going to be LEGIT ... some right away. Great sign. And the returning players offer a core of veteran experience that will help these young players through thick and thin, or so I hope?

For those who know better, is this actually the case? Eyes can be deceived but the talent seems evident.

We need to find a consistent setter, now more of that 2 setter stuff, it was awful and I don't think anybody on the coaching staff was liking it by the end.

How big is the Minnesota game?

The last 2 seasons the first game of the year against Northwestern and Illinois were must win games if we were to achieve the season's objectives. Without winning against a bad Northwestern on a neutral field in Ireland or beating Bielema in his first game at Illinois the season tumbled out of control. Those were games on those schedules that we couldn't afford to give away. We should not have lost either.

I've got a different feeling about Minnesota this year. I'd like to beat them, I think we are capable of beating them, but I don't think it is a must win game. If we lose, there are still many different avenues to get to 6 wins and a bowl game. If we do lose to Minnesota I don't think the season is lost like I did with the Northwestern or Illinois games. The Northwestern and Illinois games were also such a mental let down as proof that we weren't a better a team and all the offseason hype was crap. Minnesota game doesn't seem to have the same expectations.

Oddly enough the season objective in season 4 and 5 of the Frost era aren't any different than season 1 of the Rhule era, just have a winning season and make a bowl game.

Five Huskers Honored by the Big Ten

Freshman Katelyn Caneda led five Huskers who were honored on Wednesday, when the conference announced its postseason awards.

Caneda (second base) earned First Team All-Big Ten, All-Defensive and All-Freshman honors, the only player in the conference to receive a spot on all three teams.

Billie Andrews (shortstop) and Brooke Andrews (outfield) joined Caneda, each earning a spot on the First Team All-Big Ten team. This marks the first All-Big Ten honor for Brooke Andrews while Billie Andrews earned all-conference accolades for the third straight season. Billie and Brooke Andrews are the third set of sisters in the Big Ten to receive First Team All-Big Ten honors in the same year and the second from Nebraska. Tatum and Taylor Edwards were both named all-conference first team in 2013 and 2014 while Michigan's sisters Kari and Karla Kunnen both earned first team honors in 1993.

Mya Felder (first base) joined Caneda on the All-Defensive team. This marked Felder's second consecutive year being named to the All-Defensive team. Nebraska was the only Big Ten team to place two players on the All-Defensive team.

Abbey Newlun rounded out Nebraska's honorees, as she was announced as the Huskers' Big Ten Sportsmanship recipient.
Indiana's Teryn Kern led the conference honorees, earning Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year accoldes. Minnesota's Autumn Pease received Pitcher of the Year accolades while Northwestern's Kate Rohan took home Coach of the Year honors.

After receiving a bye with a fourth-place regular-season finish, the Huskers are set to play in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday, May 11, at 7 p.m. (CT) against the winner of Wednesday's game between Illinois and Wisconsin. The game will be broadcasted live on the Big Ten Network and fans can listen to the action live on the Huskers Radio Network, Huskers.com and select Huskers Radio Network affiliates with the call from Nate Rohr.
