Steelers - Broncos may very well be the worst football game ever played on TV

all things considered ...

Sean Payton is taking the Scott Frost "adapt or die publicly humiliated" approach to coaching it seems ... fellow offensive genius that he is.

Football Grades: Evaluating Nebraska's offense and defense against Northern Iowa

Am I being too hard on the defense considering they let up just three points? Maybe, maybe I'm even too hard on the offense, you tell me

Football More takeaways as Huskers start 3-0, Top 25 matchup looming vs Illinois

Some extra takeaways from last night's win over UNI with observations from @TimVerghese and I, plus an early look at Illinois. It is indeed a Top 25 matchup between No. 22 Nebraska (3-0) and No. 24 Illinois (3-0) on Friday night in Lincoln.

What a world, huh?!

Football Nebraska now ranked No. 22 in AP Poll, Illinois No. 24

It'll be No. 22 Nebraska vs. No. 24 Illinois this Friday night inside Memorial Stadium.

"I think they'll probably end up being ranked. Hopefully we stay ranked," Rhule said after Saturday night's win over Northern Iowa. "...I'm a big fan of coach Bielema. It'll be a cool night this coming Friday night."

Here's the latest AP Poll rankings:

Daily Nebraska Trivia/Fact: September 14-15

Missed the DNT/F yesterday. This was going to be a little fun fact type of deal to kill some milliseconds before kickoff yesterday. Alas...y'all get to enjoy it today instead!

“Nebraska is paying Northern Iowa a $600,000 guarantee for playing tonight’s game. That deal was struck more than two years ago and first reported by FBSchedules dot com.

“The Huskers reportedly paid UTEP $1.65 million to play them in the season opener and will reportedly pay UTEP $1.775 million to play them in Lincoln in 2028.

“Nebraska will also pay Louisiana-Monroe $1.65 million (2025); $1.6 million to Ohio (2026); and $650,000 to South Dakota State (2030).”

Sunday morning trivia

Just perusing through stats through 3 games and found some fun trivia:

1. Three QBs have thrown a pass - Raiola, Haarberg, Gramstad. Who has the highest completion percentage?

2. What's Nebraskas current QB completion percentage?

3. The O-Line has given up how many sacks?

4. Who leads the Huskers in rush yards? How about yards per carry?

5. Who leads in receptions? Yards per catch?

6. 3 players currently have more than 15 yards per catch. Name them.

7. How many players have recorded a sack? Who has the most?

8. How many takeaways does the defense have?

Northern Iowa

I have a feeling for some reason we play flat this week. I don't think we lose by any means but if I was a betting man I think Northern Iowa covers (30.5)...just a gut feeling.

A) Huge emotional game last week
B) No one is talking about this game. Everyone is still talking about the CU win
C) Ranked for the first time since the Johnson administration
D) They'll run right at us and eat up clock
E) Locally and nationally everyone is talking NU being 7-0 going into Ohio State (kiss of death)
F) All sets up for looking past a gimmie like Northern Iowa

I predict 34-14..what say you?

What people here in the south are talking to me about.

It's really interesting, but I have had a lot of people I know here in Georgia and even clients nationwide comment to me this past week on how well Nebraska is doing, how good a defense we have, and how good DR is. They're bringing it up on most of our weekly conversations. These are people who may have their favorite team or school not Nebraska.

Something occurred to me after many of these conversations in that one of the reasons why Nebraska Football was and is so popular around the country is because of what we represent in the bigger picture, that being the image of really hard working, decent, and loyal people who win and even dominate in something that by all modern metrics there is no reason why we shouldn't be any better than any Mountain West team. Winning without all of the built in advantages many schools have, winning for reasons that defy media hype, winning because we will ourselves to win.

People like it when someone can buck the system and win despite not having many of the advantages others have (now we do have a lot of resources no doubt, but that's a testimony to a program in an environment where players are not plentiful locally). It gives them hope that they can overcome their built in disadvantages. This is why I believe I'm getting so many nice comments, comments I didn't receive when my current home state team, Georgia, was winning national championships. I think it's larger than just rooting for an underdog, but rather a hope people have that they can win too.

There was a quote by an philosopher many years ago "the best thing you can learn from winning is that you can". I think people yearn for that in their lives and I'm starting to believe that Nebraska Football in a way represents that to people around the country.

Ranked wins incoming?

Nebraska hasn't beaten a ranked team since 2016 Oregon...I think 23 straight L's
  • Illinois will be ranked this upcoming Friday - should win this game.
  • Rutgers will have a chance to be 4-0 when they come to Lincoln and possibly ranked.
  • Indiana might be 6-0 when we play them in Bloomington.
  • Ohio St will obviously be a chance on the road but would take something special to win that game
  • USC towards the end of the season more than likely is ranked as well
  • Iowa with their schedule could be ranked to end the year

Time to stack some ranked wins!

The Cat's out of the bag.

According to Matt Rhule our back up QB will play this season and it won't necessarily be as a QB. If you want our Huskers to achieve it's ultimate goals as a team Haarberg will be a big part of this going forward. It is in Haarbergs the best interest's that he play not only as a QB but as the Nebraska wild card and this would help him if he has pro asperations. This is going to be fun watching Haarberg this season in certain moments of games where he can be utilized to help defeat teams on the field of play. jmo
