Pet Peeves - NU Football

Listened to a podcast where they talked about Pet Peeves related to their favorite sport or team. It was pretty funny, so interested in hearing some on our side.

1. Calling any OL since the 90s the “Pipeline”. Drives me nuts

2. The announcers letting us know it’s third down. Not sure why that was ever added.

3. That Irish song. WTF are we doing?

Outside of DR what player are you impressed with the most (O&D)

For me it is Barney and JBullock. I just love watching Barney play ball (outside of the massive hits he takes) and it's fun to have a player who is electric like him. Every time he touches it I feel like he has a shot. Bullock is just doing everything and it felt like he got no pub in the preseason. GBayor is a close second and it is nice to have some LB's making plays. I wish Javin could be in this convo as well, but man has Bullock literally been a stud this year.

Recruiting Notable 2025 DL target is back on the board for Nebraska…

For those that have been reading Tim-Bits for a while, I hinted this could be a possibility for Nebraska back in the spring. 2025 Lee’s Summit (Mo.) North three-star DL Ka’Mori Moore backed off his pledge to Oklahoma tonight.
Login to view embedded media Nebraska was a runner-up initially and while they currently hold three DL commits, Malcolm Simpson is flirting with Texas and the Huskers could use a larger interior DT like Moore. Jamar Mozee, of course, was his head coach his last three years, and he’s teammates with WR commit Isaiah Mozee.

Still, we’ll see how hard Nebraska pursues, Jansen and I will actually be at LSN on Friday to see Mozee and we’ll have the latest on Moore while in town.

OT-Card Games

I am watching 60's -70s songs with Vietnam era accent. A picture came up with four guys drinking beer and playing cards. Two white, two black.
Behind the Iron Curtain in West Berlin, East Germany 1975 I shared a similar experience.
Another white guy and I would play Spades and Hearts as partners vs two black guys, drink Black Cat wine and enjoy each other's company. No money just pleasure of company with each other. The four of us were good together as partners and guessing the other guy's hand. We all had some very demonstrative ways of presenting the last Spade to a pile or sliding the Queen of Hearts under a pile. Good stuff.
The USAF was already in 1975 making Race Relationship classes mandatory. WTF, we always said. We work together, room together, shower together, eat together, drink beer together, get high together and go downtown together. What are they going to teach us that we don't know from living together.

No more Friday night games?

Per Espn: Dannen has sent a letter to the Big Ten requesting no more night games.
There was some bulls#it in the letter that said' due to our location, and canceling classes it's not ideal for us other than our traditional black friday game.'

This is pretty dumb. Friday Night games are a blast. No real reason for it unless game day revenues were down and even then who cares.
Is this an old people boosters influence?

Kinda like when I was told by a booster that Buffett paid for Pelini's buyout c he was tired of getting asked about Nebraska's crazy football coach.

Basketball Nebrasketball Red-White Scrimmage announced

Looks like the Nebraska men's basketball team will play a Red-White scrimmage at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Sunday, Oct. 13. That's the bye weekend for the Nebraska football team.

Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and the Devaney Center will have a reduced capacity for the event with approximately 6,000 seats available. Concession stands will be open, and gates will open one hour before the scrimmage. The scrimmage itself will be a full-game simulation.

Here's more on the scrimmage as well as ticket info:

Article on those who are redshirting.

You don't "Burn" your redshirt year if you play unless you're a 4th year player, haven't redshirted, and play more then 4 games. Any of the freshman now who don't redshirt this season can redshirt in any of the subsequent seasons. They're just are not taking their redshirt this season.

If they're good enough to have a significant role as a true freshman, then they're likely not going to stay for a 5th season unless they get hurt and use their redshirt during the season they get hurt.

Basketball Alexis Markowski earns Preseason All-Big Ten WBB Honors

Markowski Named Preseason All-Big Ten for Third Time
Huskers.com

Nebraska's Alexis Markowski captured Preseason All-Big Ten honors for the third consecutive season when the conference announced its annual awards on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Markowski, a 6-3 center/forward from Lincoln, Neb., was one of 10 players across the conference's 18 teams to earn preseason recognition from both the Big Ten coaches and media. She also earned preseason All-Big Ten honors as a junior in 2023-24 and as a sophomore in 2022-23, after being named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year following the 2021-22 season.

A two-time Lisa Leslie Award candidate, Markowski claimed first-team All-Big Ten honors at the conclusion of a 2023-24 season when she led Nebraska to an appearance in the Big Ten Championship Game and a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Markowski, who led Nebraska with team-best averages of 15.7 points and 10.5 rebounds while starting all 35 games for the 23-12 Huskers in 2023-24, produced 19 double-doubles a year ago to push her career total to 40. She has matched Husker first-team All-Americans Kelsey Griffin (2006-10) and Jordan Hooper (2011-14) for Nebraska's career double-doubles record.

Markowski earned a spot on the 2024 Big Ten All-Tournament Team by averaging 16.5 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists over four games, including 23 points, 13 rebounds and five assists in the Big Ten Championship Game.

She enters the 2024-25 season just 44 rebounds away from becoming the sixth player in school history with 1,000 career rebounds. She is 324 rebounds away from Janet Smith's more than 40-year-old Nebraska career rebound record (1,280). Markowski, who had 369 rebounds last season, is also within striking distance of one of the top-five rebounding totals in Big Ten Conference history.

Markowski, who earned second-team All-Big Ten honors as a sophomore in 2022-23, owns 1,363 points entering her senior season.

USC's JuJu Watkins was the only unanimous choice of both the coaches and the media to earn preseason All-Big Ten honors. The sophomore guard was the preseason Big Ten Player of the Year by coaches and media.

The coaches and media were also in agreement on the top five teams in preseason voting, beginning with No. 1 USC, No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Maryland and No. 5 Indiana.

Markowski and 2024 Big Ten Freshman of the Year Natalie Potts will join Nebraska Head Coach Amy Williams at Big Ten Women's Basketball Media Day in Rosemont, Ill., Wednesday, Oct. 2. Live coverage of the event will be provided by the Big Ten Network.

Football Nebraska at Purdue Preview & Prediction (CollegeFootballNews.com)

Nebraska at Purdue Prediction, Game Preview
by Pete Fiutak, CollegeFootballNews.com

Purdue is having a rough time.

It got obliterated by Notre Dame, pounded on by Oregon State, and it's going to be tough finding a win the rest of the way -- the team will almost certainly be the underdog in their last nine games.

Purdue has to figure out how to jump all over Nebraska right away.

This is the first road game of the season for the Huskers, but they have to get over yet another close loss -- this time to Illinois -- that's slowed the roll of the jacked up Nebraska fans.

Nebraska (3-1, 0-1) at Purdue (1-2, 0-0)
Saturday, September 28 - 12:00 PM (ET) - Peacock

Why Nebraska Will Win
There was a time not all that terribly long ago when Nebraska had the most fearsome rushing attack in all of college football.

The Big Red Machine steamrolled over everything in its path, Husker running backs were superstars, and the brutally methodical way it all worked made the program a superpower among superpowers.

If Nebraska decides to give that a try, it'll look like that this week.

It's hard to keep running when you have a quarterback like Dylan Raiola under center, but the Huskers pounded away 47 times in the opener over UTEP.

It got away from the the ground game, only ran for 48 yards against Illinois in last week's loss, and ......

......Purdue has allowed 703 rushing yards over the last two weeks to Notre Dame and Oregon State. Give #15 the day off by letting him hand off.

Why Purdue Will Win
For all of the issues and concerns with the Boilermakers, the plays in the backfield are there.

They have a decent pass rush, and they come up with tackles for loss -- they just can't hold up against the run on a consistent basis. But with the Huskers it's more than that.

It's the first Nebraska road game of the season. As much as they all like to say the past is the past, what did the team do last week?

It dropped a close game.

The first three -- including the win over Colorado -- were breathers. If Purdue can get a little bit of the time of possession back on its side, keep this close, the later it gets that Husker collar will get........

What Will Happen
......there won't be any problems for Nebraska.

It'll run, but it'll come up with a good offensive mix to offset a few Purdue first half scoring drives.

There will be moments when Purdue will have a shot to take over in the second half and make this a game, but will stall.

The Nebraska running game will take over from there.

Prediction
Nebraska 34, Purdue 17

Spread
Nebraska is favored on the road by 10 points. The over/under is set at 47.5 points.
