Football Hartzog likely out this week for UCLA game

According to Matt Rhule, starting DB Malcolm Hartzog Jr. will likely miss the UCLA game with a hamstring injury he sustained late in the game at Ohio State.

"Malcolm's doing his best to get back but I don't think that he will."

Rhule said he's still not sure if Tommi Hill will be able to play. He didn't practice Tuesday, practiced "a little bit" on Wednesday.

Big week for redshirt freshman Jeremiah Charles, who backed up Hartzog at corner against the Buckeyes.

"We're planning on Jeremiah to start," Rhule said.

Quinn Baily, Running Back Chadron, Nebraska #4 Yardage leader in Max Preps...

Quinn Baily, Running Back Chadron, Nebraska #4 national yardage leader in Max Preps 1 with 1700 yards. Why no publicity regarding this young man with regard to Husker interest? Quinn Bailey is a 5'8" RB in the 2025 class. Don't overlook him because of his size. Don't "Danny Woodhead" the young man!
Friday Night...Bailey ended the night with 226 yards on 17 carries unofficially with five touchdowns.

The Offense: 2023 vs 2024

Haarberg started 8 games for us last year, but really only played 7 since he went out so early against Maryland.
DR has started 8 games for us this year.

here's how they and the offenses compare:

HH - 49% completions, 1,444 total yards, 11 total TDs, 6 INTs (7 games)
DR - 66.1% completions, 1,686 total yards, 9 total TDs, 7 INTs (8 games)

the offense is averaging 24ppg compared to 22ppg last year during HH's starts
the offense is averaging 358ypg compared to 317ypg last year during HH's starts

pretty similar numbers. by far the biggest improvement is in fumbles lost, but that really hasn't translated to more points.

W/L record is the same.

I was pretty surprised to see how similar our production has been this year compared to last year's ragtag bunch.

Football Three Pressing Questions for Marcus Satterfield, NU offense over final four games

Three Pressing Questions from Satterfield's weekly media availability:

>> Why so many screen passes against Ohio State, and what does the offense need to do over the final four regular-season games?
>> Will Thomas Fidone continue to be more involved in the pass game? I've got some numbies and data to walk through.
>> Will Big Ten officials learn how to spot the ball correctly before Saturday (and ON Saturday)? What if they knew how to spot the ball correctly during the Nebraska-Ohio State game?

Basketball Hoiberg preparing Huskers for perimeter-focused UTRGV in season-opener

I'll have a full rundown later today, but thought I'd share the injury updates from Fred Hoiberg just now ahead of Monday's season-opener against Texas Rio Grande Valley:

The two main questions come with guard Sam Hoiberg and big Andrew Morgan.

Hoiberg, who's been nursing a sore foot on his non-sprained ankle, will be a game-time decision Monday. He was back on the court Friday and was "pretty limited."

"We've got two more practices before opening night and a shoot around, so it's probably all the way up to a game-time decision for Sam, whether we throw him out there early," Fred said. "If he does play, I don't know how much he'll play."

Morgan continues to be in concussion protocol after a hard collision last Wednesday in practice. Morgan returned to the court Friday, but in a non-contact fashion.

"We'll see how he responds later this afternoon, more importantly tomorrow, and see if we can get another day and to continue on with the steps in the protocol that he's in," Hoiberg said.

Hoiberg also announced Juwan Gary recently had the flu the past couple days. It's nothing Hoiberg is worried about.

"He was back on the floor today, so I anticipate him being fine for Monday night," Hoiberg said.

Here's the full rundown:

Willis McGahee Jr..

Has been a pleasant surprise this year. That dude has flashed a few times this year. I'm assuming he's already played too much to RS this year? Like what I've seen from him and a couple other young guys.

I'll be honest I'm hoping like hell we can get some of our young safeties some run now that we have gotten to the last four. Benning and Jones for example.

Recruiting Notable additions and omissions to the weekend visitor list

- You might notice that 2025 Lee's Summit (Mo.) North three-star defensive lineman Ka'Mori Moore isn't listed on the weekend visitor list. The Oklahoma decommit could sneak into town with Isaiah Mozee and some of his teammates that are expected in town, but as things stand, this matches our reporting on his recruitment the past few weeks. Iowa State has taken control of his recruitment since he backed off his pledge to the Sooners and made him feel like a priority. Cyclones have already had him on campus and are making more of an effort than Nebraska is. Said it before and I'll say it again, if Nebraska wants to, they can absolutely win this recruitment, I just haven't seen the effort from the staff in this one and with Malcolm Simpson's recruitment seemingly shut down now, Nebraska seems fine standing pat on the commits they have

Login to view embedded media - As we reported yesterday, 2025 Kentucky four-star safety commit Martels Carter Jr. is engaged in dialogue with Nebraska's staff as the Huskers sniff around a potential flip opportunity with the Kentucky native, but a visit will not happen this weekend unless the four-star and his family miraculously find a last-minute flight out to Lincoln or Omaha. A visit could happen later this month for the Wisconsin game, and dependent on how real a flip is, the staff could also fly out to him during the bye next week.

Login to view embedded media - 2026 Norman (Okla.) North three-star wide receiver Mason James will visit Nebraska this weekend. Hometown Oklahoma is the favorite in his recruitment, with the likes of Texas A&M, Michigan, Baylor and Alabama among others at or near the top of his list. Huskers have an opportunity to vault into that top group and earn some staying power this weekend.

Login to view embedded media 2026 Blue Valley (Kan.) Northwest kicker Trace Rudd is a notable regional target set to visit. He's in weekly communication in the staff, has interest from Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma, among others. He's a left-footed kicker and a five-star per Kohls kicking camp

Login to view embedded media - If you recall, this summer when I wrote about Nebraska offering 2026 Waxahachie (Tex.) four-star wide receiver Kohen Brown, I noted that he described the offer from the Huskers as a dream offer. He has family ties to the program and has visited in the past, prior to being offered, so he's familiar with game day in Memorial Stadium. He's had a productive junior year for Waxahachie (Tex.), catching passes from 2027 quarterback Jerry Meyer III, who was offered by Nebraska as well this season.
