Football Betting line info for Nebraska-Wisconsin

Wisconsin has opened as a 13-point favorite over Nebraska with an over/under set at 40.5.

Through the first seven games, Nebraska was a double-digit underdog just once (10.5 points against Oklahoma) and was favored in five of those seven games. But for the third straight week, the Huskers will be double-digit underdogs:

Minnesota: -14.5
Michigan: -30.5
Wisconsin: -13

Congratulations Spartanhusker!

Another girls state tennis title! Swept the singles and doubles matches with the doubles a match between two teams from Collegiate if I am reading this correctly.

Some solid senior leadership on this team but wow oh wow it looks like you have some great athletes in the freshmen and sophomore classes!

I know you don't talk about state titles with the kids, just get better, but how many titles is this now? How many in a row?

Congratulations Coach Hawley!

Darkhorse names

Heard some interesting things regarding some coaches trev has talked to or wants to talk to over the past month that have displayed some interest. I was very surprised by the first two, but apparently they are considering leaving for the right job. Take it or leave it, just sharing.

Pat Fitzgerald. He loves Nebraska’s history and facilities.
David Shaw. Feels Stanford is holding him back. Apparently Jim got away with some things there he cant.
Chris Peterson. Wants back in.
Ryan Walters.
Jeff Monken.

Chris Klieman is out. Not interested in moving or in coaching very long.
Not much smoke around Lane. But hes also in season.
LL wants a new job but loves wisconsin.

BoB wants it.
Rhule is being considered.

Right now it sounds like its most likely matt campbell or mickey. Trev really likes mickey. Mickey really has done a good job evaluating everything wrong with the program.

Oh and just to piss everyone off, trev has asked barry alvarez his thoughts.

This board and coaching searches

I’m 41 years old. The last 22 of my 41 years have been filled with rumors or suggestions of who should be our next head coach. Aren’t you guys tired? I check this board every once in a while to see if there is any new information. There isn’t. Just opinions, rants, debates, and blame that nobody gives a shit about. Chill out. The state of this board is somewhere between redundant and pathetic. Go watch some quality football on Sunday. Go spend some time with your family. The fact that some of you have such strong opinions of which coach has the qualifications to lead this 3-win football program is a little off.
It doesn’t matter who is to blame, it needs to be fixed. It doesn’t matter who the next head coach is, they need to be given a fair shot by the fan base.

Player Development

I think player development was always a plus at Nebraska. Even without the top recruits the program was able to help players maximize their potential and when we did get the best recruits they became dominant. Something drastically bad happened starting in the Riley years that accelerated in the Frost years where players just did not improve and underperformed expectations.
The transfer portal helped fill in at QB, RB, WR, and special teams this year but it could not overcome the lack of development everywhere else on the team, particularly the lines and at LB. In past years transfers were pretty few in number and just filled in a hole here and there. But this team almost required an entire roster overhaul if it was going to be a winning team.
If you took the transfers off this team it's a winless squad. Pure and simple. Almost regardless of who you have at coach. Garret Nelson is one of the very few guys that is above average that were recruited into the program from high school. Yes, some recruits transferred away but much of the Frost recruits just have not developed to a level worthy of being in a P5 conference.
What the hell has happened that created this scenario? S&C must be very subpar but this is also indicative of a cultural problem where guys don't push each other and just accept average effort in workouts and practice.

Baseball Nebraska baseball announces 2023 schedule

Some fun games on the schedule for the spring. The Cambria College Classic should be a doozy with Ole Miss, Hawaii and Vanderbilt in three straight days. Plus, there's two strips to Omaha for the Huskers when they take on Creighton with only one game set to take place at Haymarket Park. Going to be a fun and important season ahead for the Huskers.

Here’s why Rhule would fail here …

… his incentive to succeed here is not strong enough.

We are at rock bottom. We need someone who will stop at nothing to succeed. Someone who needs to succeed or he may never get another similar chance.

That’s not Rhule.

He got his fat payday in the NFL. He was thinking to sit out a year. Yeah, if we throw enough money at him maybe he’ll take the job. But that makes it worse. Then, he’d be doing it for the money not because he has something to prove.

If Rhule fails, he’ll get another job. He’s already turned around two college programs. He’s shown that he can do it. If he fails here, it won’t mean he can’t build a program or coach in college. It’ll just make it seem impossible for anyone to win here.

Sure, maybe he feels he has something to prove after Carolina. But not yet. It’s too soon. It’s not enough time for the sting of it all to really sink in. It’s not enough time for him to truly reflect on who he is and what he’s about. It’s not enough time for him to rebuild the desire within himself to stop at nothing to succeed. It’s too soon.

He’s a competitor. He’s a good coach. So he’ll give it “the old college try.” But it won’t be enough. He’ll fail because he won’t be doing it because he has to. He’ll be doing it because he can. And that’s not enough for where we are as a program.

We don’t need someone who CAN turn this program around we need someone who HAS TO turn this program around OR ELSE.

Football Blackshirt Breakdown: Michigan Edition

Here's this week's edition of Blackshirt Breakdown with Jay Foreman and myself.

Jay took a deeper look at a handful of plays that caught our eye, including an excellent Garrett Nelson rep on the edge, a miscommunication between Chubba Purdy and Tommi Hill and another strong play from Ernest Hausmann.

Jay also provides his thoughts on an intriguing player who saw the most action of his career at Michigan — Javin Wright, a big 6-foot-5, 215-pounder who got the start at nickel with Isaac Gifford playing safety against the Wolverines.
