Husker Nation is encouraged to come to Memorial Stadium on Monday and welcome head football coach Matt Rhule to Nebraska prior to Rhule's introductory press conference.

University of Nebraska students and the general public are invited to gather at Gate 20 on the East side of Memorial Stadium at 12:50 p.m. on Monday. That group will have the first chance to welcome Rhule before he makes his way to the 1:30 p.m. press conference inside the Hawks Championship Center. Fans will then be invited inside Memorial Stadium to watch the press conference live on the stadium big screen.

Fans coming to Memorial Stadium to greet Coach Rhule are advised that campus parking rules are in effect on Monday. Visitor parking is available in metered stalls on all four sides of the stadium but vehicles parked in a lot without a proper permit will be ticketed.

Those unable to make it to the stadium can follow all of the action live on Huskers.com and through Nebraska's official social media channels. A live video stream will start at 12:30 p.m. with an hour of coverage leading up to the press conference led by Greg Sharpe, Jessica Coody and Damon Benning. The stream will carry the press conference in its entirety before wrapping up its coverage with final thoughts and comments and an exclusive interview with Coach Rhule after the press conference has ended.

Rhule’s staff options

Will be interesting to see who will become the offensive coordinator under Rhule? Some possible names to keep an eye on are Marcus Satterfield, Joe Brady, Glenn Thomas or Jake Peetz.

Satterfield is currently making $900,000 at South Carolina as their OC but was on Rhule’s staff at Temple, Baylor and Carolina (2020). Brady and Peetz (Husker) were on Rhule’s staff at Carolina for a year at least. I could definitely see there being a possibility both Satterfield and Peetz both being on staff together. Peetz is a QB coach but Satterfield can coach any number of offensive positions. Thomas was on Rhule’s staff at Baylor and has recently been the OC/QB coach at Arizona State. So Thomas would be available if Rhule went that direction.

When it comes to the defensive coordinator position the two names to watch are Phil Snow and Geoff Collins. Snow has been Rhule’s DC throughout but getting up there in age. Collins was of course is the recently fired Georgia Tech head coach and has coached with Rhule in the past at multiple stops.

Strength and conditioning coach will most likely be Jeremy Scott. He has been Rhule’s S&C coach at all three head coaching stops.

As for the position coaches here are some possible names to look at. Honestly I think there could be room for both Mickey and Busch.

When it comes to the offensive line I could see Randy Clements being the guy. He is currently the North Texas OL coach but was Rhule’s OL coach at Baylor. Has been OL coach at other places like Florida State and Ole Miss as well.

I would expect Jeff Nixon to be his running backs coach. He has been with Rhule at both Baylor and Carolina. Father of ex-Husker Will Nixon.

The wide receiver coach very may likely be Mickey Joseph. Kind of amusing Rhule’s WR coach at Carolina is none other than ex-Husker Joe Dailey. So one would assume Dailey will come along as WR Coach if Mickey doesn’t stay.

I’m not sure who would be the tight ends coach to be honest? I would not assume Beckton will be back even though I really did like him. I would assume he would go back to Florida to coach?

On the defensive side of the ball I think it’s a little more clear.

Along the defensive line it would be HUGE to get Rhule’s DL coach at Baylor in Elijah Robinson. Robinson is currently the DL coach at Texas A&M.

As for the linebacker coach it is probably going to be Mike Siravo. He has been with Rhule at multiple stops throughout.

Secondary coach more than likely will be Evan Cooper. He has been with Rhule throughout as well. Would be interesting to see if we split the CB/S roles. That would definitely leave a opening for Busch outside of just ST. Talking about special-teams, it could be Busch but Rhule has always had Ed Foley in that role for him throughout.

Would love to hear your guys thoughts on possible other options?

Football Two play-callers to keep an eye on

According to FootballScoop, Jake Peetz and Marcus Satterfield are high on the list of potential names to be Nebraska’s offensive coordinator.

Peetz is an O'Neill, Nebraska, native, a former Husker walk-on and currently an assistant with the NFL's Rams. He was LSU's OC in 2021 and coached Matt Rhule's quarterbacks at Carolina in 2020. His name was tossed around last year before Mark Whipple got the job.

Satterfield is currently the OC at South Carolina, which just knocked off top-10 opponents Tennessee and Clemson in back-to-back weeks.

Defensive scheme

If the rumors about Schumann are correct & I believe they probably are, here's what Rhule has on his mind. He ran a 3-3-5 his last year at Baylor.

Georgia runs a 3-3-5 Nickle based defense that is flexible for any offense they encounter. Their depth chart has 12 positions. Naturally they sub & create different 11 man combinations for the opponent or situation. They use the standard 3 man front and have 4 LB's a Sam, Mac, Jack & Money LB behind them when they are tilted toward run stopping. In passing situations or spread offenses they can pull a LB & a third safety called a Star joins 2 safety's, a field corner and a base corner. Or keep the 4th LB in and blitz. This D gives them speed & lots of flexibility for running teams or passing teams.

The reason I think it might be true, is that Rhule said in one interview he plans to hire someone who excels in the scheme he wants to install. There's a lot of flexibility to this scheme for the different offenses. When the 4 LB's are in, they can cause a lot of confusion with blitz packages or run support. Hope he gets it done.
