The Long (but Short) Of It

The NCAA Softball Committee is bound by the 400-mile radius busing rule. That means that when a team can bus to a certain regional and there are no additional disqualifying reasons for them not to go there (e.g. conference conflict), that's where they're going.

Several times in the field you see above, teams were placed in a certain region or on a certain seed line based on the 400-mile radius rule. Seemingly-annual tournament matchups, the placement of which SEC team in in each regional, and other results seen here can be directly attributed to this rule.

With where the game is at this point, it's an antiquated rule, but it's one that still has to be followed for right now.[/COLOR]

Basketball Brice Williams Named Big Ten Player of the Week

Press released from Nebraska Athletics:

Williams Named Big Ten Player of the Week
Following a pair of wins over ranked opponents, Nebraska’s Brice Williams was tabbed as the Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday.

Williams earned his second award of the season as he averaged 27.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game in helping Nebraska post wins over No. 18 Illinois and at No. 16 Oregon. He finished with 27 points, including eight straight points in overtime, a season-best eight rebounds and four assists as the Huskers knocked off Illinois for the first time since 2018. In NU’s 77-71 win at Oregon, Williams had 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting along with seven rebounds and six assists to match a season high in that category.

Williams becomes the second Husker to win multiple Big Ten Player-of-the-Week honors, joining Shavon Shields, who earned a pair of weekly honors during the 2013-14 season.

The Huskers continue their West Coast swing on Wednesday when they take on Washington. Tipoff is set for 9:30 p.m. (CT) and the game will be carried on BTN and the Huskers Radio Network. Nebraska returns home for a matchup with Ohio State on Sunday, Feb. 9, and tickets are available for the game by visiting Huskers.com/Tickets.

Basketball ***Live Game Thread: Final — Nebraska 77, No. 16 Oregon 71

Nebraska has a clean availability report for tonight's game at No. 16 Oregon. No one listed as out or questionable for Fred Hoiberg's crew.

The Ducks list Ra’Heim Moss, Andre Warren, Jamari Phillips and Dezdrick Lindsay (season) as out. Oleksandr Kobzystyi is listed as questionable. Looks like Moss, a 6-3, 205-pound guard, is the most important out of that group, but he comes off the bench and is averaging 11.7 minutes and 1.5 points per game.

Tipoff is 6:30 p.m. central. The game will be shown on BTN with Guy Haberman and Don MacLean on the call. Some pregame reading:

Basketball Nebraska MBB assistant Nate Loenser Selected For Silver Waves Media Event

Press release from Nebraska Athletics:

Nebraska assistant men’s basketball coach Nate Loenser has been selected as one of the participants at the 2025 Silver Waves Media Future Head Coach Power Lunch this April in San Antonio, Texas.

The event features 75 assistant coaches from around the country and provides them with opportunities to meet with Athletic Directors, Associate ADs and search firms during the lunch format during the week of the NCAA Final Four. Last year’s class included 10 assistants who went on to receive Division I head coaching positions.

Loenser is in his fourth season with the Husker men’s basketball program and has helped Nebraska improve its defense in each of the last three seasons. He plays an extensive role in nearly every facet of the program, including leading the Huskers’ individual skill development programs and opponent scouting while helping with game planning and recruiting. He has helped four players earn All-Big Ten honors over the last three seasons, including a pair of Huskers in 2024. Before joining the Husker program, he spent the previous five seasons with the Chicago Bulls, including three seasons as an assistant coach for Fred Hoiberg and Jim Boylen. His coaching emphasis was on the offensive end, while he also handled opponent scouting for select teams and worked extensively in player development

The Huskers are 14-8 on the season, including four ranked wins this season. Nebraska returns to action on Wednesday night when the Huskers travel to Washington. Tipoff is set for 9:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on BTN and carried on the Huskers Radio Network.

Basketball Confidence growing as Nebraska takes down No. 16 Oregon on the road

Behind a combined 51 points from Brice Williams and Juwan Gary, Nebraska beat No. 16 Oregon 77-71 on Sunday night.

Defense showed up, too.

"We've gotten our identity back, and that was the biggest thing for me, was to go out and play consistent on the defensive end," Fred Hoiberg told Huskers Radio Network after the game.
