Wife and I said goodbye to our best friend yesterday

I had always been a big dog person until my wife (then girlfriend) and I rescued this little bundle of pure joy 8 years ago, and she converted me in short order. We said goodbye to her yesterday after a number of health complications took away her ability to walk. While society doesn't treat the loss of beloved pets the same as family members, it honestly feels just as bad to me.

That said, if you have a pet, show them a little extra love today in her honor. And please feel free to post a pic of them in this thread. And if you're thinking of getting one, please consider rescuing. There are so many dogs and cats in need of a good home, and they might turn out to be your best friend. RIP, girl.

We Now Have Nine 4 stars and above

in the 2023 class including transfers

While I agree recruiting quantity of high quality top players isn’t the only thing top teams must have.. it almost absolutely starts there first.

If you look historically, especially this century, since Rivals began, the importance of recruiting and retaining 4 and 5 stars is huge in terms of being Nationally Top 10 relevant and for sure Top 4 NC worthy. we haven’t had one national title winner yet since 2002, who hasn’t been well into the double digits each year I think the average of those top four teams if you look at them, let’s say, Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, and Ohio State since about that time they probably average 17 signees each year or more who are four stars or five stars.

And if you’re not even close to signing double digits per year, your chances of winning titles or even playing in top 4 playoff very rare. again, I believe the average national title winner probably averaged 15 to 20 in the last decade most of the teams who win have 50 or 60+ on the roster minimum.

That doesn’t mean the rest of the teams have no shot but they have to stay healthy. If you only have 30 or 40 of those players they need to stay healthy and you have to probably hit at a higher percentage rate meaning that they actually end up playing like four stars and above once developed and on campus

I have been adamant and history proves how important it is to get into the double digits, roughly each recruiting season when it comes to pulling in 4 and 5 stars.

Bottom line if you are well coached have a good system and can get that 8 to 12 average a year or more, you put yourself in the conversation in my opinion. Of course, the more the merrier and what Rhule staff is doing with the second tier talent is exactly what I’ve also said, for a decade or more that if you aren’t getting as many top players in the country top 50 at all positions as Bama Ohio State etc , then you better get those difference making smaller kids, who get overlooked.. the ones who can juke shake and bake blaze you with speed. Basically finding players that the main reason they are not 4+ stars is because their lack of size may have had them overlooked, especially if they were small is sophomores and juniors and then coach them up. This is how you can close the gap on the top tier talent teams. Also having that difference maker at QB has to be there too.

Examples of good 2nd tier talent teams that fit my model who closed gap are Oregon, TCU, in terms of getting into playoffs. We’ve seen Boise State Utah, dare I say past UCF teams come close and for sure close gap

Wrestling Final: No. 2 Iowa 34, No. 10 Nebraska 6

Big one tonight in Carver Hawkeye as the Huskers looked to upset the Hawkeyes and earn the first win over Iowa since 2006.

NU has lost 13 straight duals since then. Six possible ranked matchups tonight including two top 5 showdowns at 125 and 141. Going to be tough for Nebraska to come out on top, but if some things fall right, it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Here are the projected matchups:

125: No. 3 Liam Cronin (13-2) vs. No. 1 Spencer Lee (8-0)

133: Kyle Burwick (10-2) or Boo Dryden (6-4) vs. No. 18 Cullan Schriever (7-6) or Brody Teske (2-0)

141: No. 5 Brock Hardy (19-2) vs. No. 2 Real Woods (7-0)

149: Dayne Morton (4-8) or Blake Cushing (10-3) vs. No. 7 Max Murin (12-2)

157: No. 1 Peyton Robb (17-0) vs. No. 21 Cobe Siebrecht (7-1)

165: No. 29 Bubba Wilson (9-8) vs. No. 10 Patrick Kennedy (11-1)

174: No. 2 Mikey Labriola (17-0) vs. No. 16 Nelson Brands (4-2)

184: No. 16 Lenny Pinto (10-6) or Brayden Van Tassell (1-1) vs. No. 8 Abe Assad (13-1)

197: No. 22 Silas Allred (16-4) vs. No. 8 Jacob Warner (10-2)

HWT: Cale Davidson (8-11) vs. No. 3 Tony Cassioppi (14-0)

Nebraska needs a couple of upsets and the ones I'm watching tonight is 184 and 165. I think Allred at 197 will be a good measuring stick for him. Interested to see how he does - he's been on a tear as of late.

Nebraska vs Iowa wrestling dual

Drug this over from the Iowa wrestling board. This is the general opinion out there.

I will have some of my own later, but have to go out and fight some snow, and get to work.
