Mrs Rhule: "Don't Screw This Up"

First Lady of NU Football not f'ing around, according to a recent Athletic piece:

....after his wife Julie walked through the building that’s soon to house the Huskers’ football headquarters, she sought him out and didn’t mince words.

“You should be here 20 years,” Julie told Matt, according to his recounting of the conversation to a high school athletic director in the Omaha area. “Do not screw this up.”

“She was like, ‘You better win some games,’” Rhule said. “You’ve got no excuses.’”

love it!

More evidence of why the Big Ten struggles in the NCAA tourney..

I will continue to bang the drum that the Big Ten sucks in the tourney because the league's top teams are catered to by the officials. This will be called as an offensive foul 10 out of 10 times in the Big Dance, and the bucket never happens:

Basketball Eli Rice on his growth at IMG Academy and what he's seen from Nebraska

Caught up with Husker basketball commit Eli Rice, who's in the middle of a great season with IMG Academy. His game on and off the court continues to grow. I'm really high on this kid.

“I think he’s very comfortable now playing all three guard spots,” IMG head coach Jim Carr said of Rice. “He’s been handling the ball much more as a lead guard than I think he’s had to in the past. I think his shot making and his shot creating for himself and others is another big thing I can point at as something that’s gone up also.”

TV sports deals will have to be more selective

And in the sports world, executives are beginning to grapple with the rocketing cost of sports rights, with similar implications. ESPN “is going through some obviously challenging times because of what’s happened in linear programming,” Disney CEO Bob Iger told analysts Feb. 8. While Iger said he wants ESPN to stay in business with the NBA (the next major league with rights renewals coming up), he added that the menu of promising sports deals is likely to slim down. “I’ve had long conversations about this with [ESPN chief] Jimmy Pitaro, and we’ve got some decisions that we have to make coming up,” Iger said. “And we’re simply going to have to get more selective.”

Times, they are a changin’. I am sure that the Big Ten and SEC will continue to be big relative winners. But absolute revenue growth may face some headwinds. Will the Big Ten Network continue to add value? Will the assumptions justifying addition of Rutgers hold up over time?

Blake Shelton Tickets

I gave my wife and 2 daughters tickets (3 total) to Blake Shelton as a Christmas gift . The concert is tomorrow in Lincoln. They are awesome tickets (aisle seats 4 rows off the stage). I paid $740 for them. One of my daughters is having some medical issues and we've been in and out of Children's Hospital this week so we won't be able to make it. Anybody interested in buying them????

Big ten teams may be starting to shed some marquee non conf games

With the addition of USC and UCLA the conf schedule is going to be rough - particularly for the blue bloods - those blue bloods are going to be seeing a larger share of each other than the other pedestrian teams

The media deal wasn’t a billion plus so they would have exclusive rights to Iowa vs Purdue

I guess the other option is that UW is heading to the BIG

OT: Do you use a Financial Advisor?

I'm curious to see the opinions of RSS on Financial Advisors. If you use one, what type of fee structure do you utilize and what % do you pay annually?

I've used one for about 7 years strictly for investment purposes. We use an AUM structure paying a 0.75% advisory fee + ~0.22% platform fee that covers all trading costs & custodial fees. I also have a TD Ameritrade account that I manage myself, and have lately been wondering if I even need the help of an advisor. I know 97 bp isn't a ton, but adding up that expense over 7+ years makes me a little sick. And that will only continue to grow infinitely.

Am I a product of looking smart in history's longest bull market, or are Financial Advisors the Real Estate Agents of the finance world (RSS's opinion, not mine! Laughing)?
