Huskers: Putting Up 50 Points?

A win is a win. Period. But I was looking at 2022 team's defenses that Nebraska faces this year. 3 of those teams are in the bottom of the barrel for points allowed per game of all FBS teams. 3 of those teams are in the 95 percentile of the most points allowed. They are: Northern Illinois = 32.8; Louisiana Tech = 37.9; and the worst team allowing points in the FBS was Colorado = 44.5

Last 10 Years for Big Red putting up 50+

2022: 0
2021: 52 vs Fordham. 56 vs Northwestern
2020: 0
2019: 54 vs Maryland
2018: 53 vs Minnesota. 54 vs Illinois
2017: 0
2016: 52 vs Wyoming
2015: 0
2014: 55 vs Florida Atlantic. 55 vs Fresno State
2013: 55 vs Southern Miss. 59 vs South Dakota State

Just trying to warm up to betting lines in the fall. I think there are a couple games that Huskers put up a 50+.

RJ Moten

The staff obviously has work to do to get down to 85. There seems to be a lot of non-contributors in the secondary. If they can get under 85, I’d love to see them go after RJ Moten from Michigan. Reliable and experienced. I’m not familiar with what areas of NJ our staff have connections, but Moten played at Delran.

Plus, his addition would have the added virtue of serving as a response to Hausmann joining the maize and blue.

Baseball Dylan Hufft commits to Nebraska

Dylan Hufft became the 12th member of the Huskers' 2023 recruiting class when he committed Monday afternoon. The speedy shortstop is playing for Johnson County CC this season and has been having quite a season.

He's hitting .389 on the year as the lead-off hitter with 39 RBI alongside 12 doubles and eight triples. He's a force to be reckoned with on the base pads as he has a team-high 20 steals on the season along with a .434 OBP and .549 slugging percentage. Hufft used his redshirt season at Kansas State during the 2022 baseball season after not appearing in a game.

He was the 30th overall player out of Missouri as rated by Perfect Game. He'll come to Lincoln as a redshirt sophomore. With his knack for stealing bases, easy to imagine him at least being the top pinch runner for situations. Dylan Carey is in line to take over shortstop next season if/when Brice Matthews leaves, but Hufft seems versatile enough to play other positions.

Football Football schedule tweak: Illinois game moved to Friday night

The Big Ten Conference announced Monday afternoon that Nebraska’s game at Illinois will now take place on Friday, Oct. 6. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 7, but the contest was selected by the conference and its television partners for a Friday kickoff.

It marks the second straight year that Nebraska will play in multiple Friday contests, including the annual Black Friday matchup with Iowa on Nov. 24. Last year, NU went 2-0 in Friday games with road wins at Rutgers (14-13) and at Iowa (24-17).

It will be the second time that the NU-Illinois matchup will be played on Friday since Nebraska joined the Big Ten, as the 2017 matchup in Champaign — a 28-6 Husker win — was a Friday night matchup.

The kickoff time and television network designation for Nebraska-Illinois game will be announced later this spring.

Here's the updated 2023 Husker football schedule:
Thursday, Aug. 31: at Minnesota
Saturday, Sept. 9: at Colorado
Saturday, Sept. 16: vs. Northern Illinois
Saturday, Sept. 23: vs. Louisiana Tech

***New Commit*** BREAKING: Texas 2024 OL Gibson Pyle commits to Huskers, details decision with Inside Nebraska

Three-star Texas OL Gibson Pyle has committed to Nebraska. He is the Huskers’ second commitment in the 2024 class, joining fellow Texas three-star Roger Gradney.

In an interview with Inside Nebraska, Pyle explains why he chose the Huskers, what he saw in practice from Matt Rhule, Donovan Raiola’s coaching style and Raiola’s vision for him:

"He told me he’s gonna put me through the most stressful situations in practice so when you’re in the game, you’re used to it."

Football New faces on the line of scrimmage steal the show in Red-White spring game

“I would see no reason why those guys wouldn’t be fighting to start, play, any and all of the above,” Matt Rhule said of guys like Princewill Umanmielen and Cam Lenhardt.

I wanted to pay attention to the line of scrimmage Saturday. I came away thinking some of the new faces on the D-line stole the show:

OT: Mind-blowing first choices for roles in movies and TV

If these people did not pass on these roles then the landscape of movie and TV history could be drastically different.

John Travolta-Forrest Gump

Al Pacino- Star Wars (Han Solo)

Will Smith-Matrix (Neo)

Burt Reynolds-James Bond (After Sean Connery)

OJ Simpson-Terminator

Mel Gibson-Gladiator

Sean Connery-LOTR (Gandalf)

And these two don't even make it past the first season if the original choices accepted the roles.

Ray Liotta-Tony Soprano

Matthew Broderick or John Cusack--Walter White

Let's all just be thankful they all passed on these roles!
