Recruiting Four-star DB Camren Hamiel sets Nebraska OV

2026 Goodyear (Ari.) Desert Edge four-star cornerback Camren Hamiel has announced his top four schools and his four official visit dates. Nebraska, Texas A&M, Penn State and Oregon are the final four programs in the running for the No. 20 cornerback in the country. He's now scheduled to make a Nebraska OV June 6-8

Texas A&M feels like the favorite, A&M safeties coach Jordan Peterson has made strong in-roads at Desert Edge HS and landed three prospects from the program while he was an assistant at Kansas. Nebraska has been recruiting him for some time, he's been a priority for John Butler practically since Butler took the defensive backs coach job last summer. The Huskers got him on campus in March and he left even higher on what the program has to offer him. Official visits will be an opportunity for one of the four to create some separation. The Aggies might have a slight edge heading into the summer, but this recruitment is really, really close between these final four.

Volleyball Huskers sign All-Big 12 transfer Allie Sczech

News release from Nebraska Athletics:

The Nebraska volleyball program and head coach Dani Busboom Kelly have announced that Allie Sczech has signed to join the Huskers for the upcoming 2025 season.

Sczech (pronounced Check) is a 6-4 opposite hitter who played three seasons at Baylor and has one year of eligibility remaining. A native of Sugarland, Texas, Sczech was a two-time All-Big 12 Second Team selection at Baylor, as well as a two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree.

"Allie is a great person who has been all in on joining our program even through the coaching transition, which says a lot about her character and commitment to becoming a Husker," Busboom Kelly said. "Allie is a proven and experienced player at this level and has a big left arm. We are very much looking forward to Allie's arrival on campus next month."

As a junior in 2024, Sczech earned All-Big 12 Second Team, averaging 2.44 kills per set with a .273 hitting percentage. She totaled 80 digs and 72 blocks. Sczech posted a career-high 21 kills and hit .463 in Baylor's NCAA Tournament second round defeat to Dayton last season on Dec. 6. In two NCAA Tournament matches in 2024, Sczech averaged 4.13 kills per set with a .508 hitting percentage.

Sczech began her career at Baylor in 2022, earning All-Big 12 Second Team and All-Big 12 Rookie Team honors.

Prior to Baylor, Sczech was a prep volleyball All-American at George Ranch High School in Texas. She was the District 20-6A Offensive Player of the Year for 2020, as well as a TGCA All-State selection. Sczech played club volleyball for Houston Skyline. Sczech earned a gold medal with Team USA at the 2023 Pan American Cup in Nogales, Mexico.

Sczech will earn dual degrees in corporate communication and journalism in May 2025.
