Football Matt Rhule gives updates on injuries, depth chart, position battles, Blackshirts during loaded Saturday presser

The headline says it all. A ton to unpack from this afternoon. Hit the link.

Football Saturday Rhule Presser

Today, the Huskers are holding their second of two full scrimmages allowed by the NCAA during the preseason. Rhule will be meeting with the media shortly after the scrimmage ends at approx. 2 p.m.

Links to press conference video, my key takeaways and any other notable news stories will be dropped in here as soon as they're posted. Any particular things you guys are interested in finding out from Rhule today other than, like, everything?

Missouri NIL

Misery passed a law allowing Misery high school athletes to start receiving NIL money as soon as they sign with a Misery school. Helped them get a 5 star commit out of Kansas City who will start getting paid when he signs in December. Could really hurt recruiting KC for Husker football.

Volleyball Game Thread Red-White Scrimmage FINAL: Red 3, White 1

Hello folks, it's time for another volleyball season and we start off with the annual Red-White scrimmage tonight at 6 p.m. on BTN+ at the Devaney Center. It's a big-time scrimmage today as it'll go a long way in determining the numerous position battles on the roster including setter, second middle blocker and the outside hitters.

As mentioned before, you can watch the scrimmage on BTN+. Unless you're planning on watching other Big Ten stuff, I'd recommend the Nebraska team pass which is only $10 a month or $80 for a year. Plus, the Huskers Radio Network will broadcast all the action on their radio affiliates, including 107.3 FM in Lincoln and AM 590 in Omaha. A live audio stream will be provided at Huskers.com and on the Huskers app.

I put together plenty of previews to get you set today including my position previews, Volleyball HQ and features on the team. In case you missed it, here are the links for some of the big stuff:

My son's sophmore coach suprised the boys and let them watch 45 minutes of CU's practice. Coach didnt play their but knows Prime somehow. My son came home and said they looked like a good Texas HS team. Said if Prime's son isn't elite (top 2-3 in the conference) that they will struggle to win a game.

He was always teasing me that Huskers would lose to them.....now.....he predicts a beatdown. My Kid is not an elite football player but he knows the game very well and knows talent.

A dime play....dont blink.

Wide Receiver - False Narrative?

Prior to Betts departure I didn’t hear concern about the WR group being thin. Now the sky is falling. Let’s take a breath and evaluate 2023 vs 2022. The obvious loss is Trey Palmer. In a boom or bust offense he was often the lone boom. 2023 will likely be about moving the chains. Kemp looks like your 3rd and 6 guy.

Next let’s look at TE. 2022 - Volkolek was injured much of the year. Brewington performed admirable and picked up 11 catches but struck fear in no one. Even if Gilbert doesn’t play a down, Fidone and Boerkicher should be a huge upgrade in production and big play ability.

The freshman class…yes they are raw, but have characteristics that make one think their potential will be realized sooner than later. I know, I know, Potential has never won a game, but if 1 or 2 can contribute as a downfield threat I believe the WR/TE group is far better suited to drive success in 2023 than the same groups did in 2022.

Perhaps I’m drinking from the pre-season spring of eternal optimism.

Our favorite sports commentator comments on the Colorado situation…

One anonymous quote in the article from a P12 coach which I personally found hilarious….

"The circus is in town, and you can have a real good time. But, the circus always does two things.
They take your money, and they leave town."
