Just an observation

I was looking at the unofficial scholarship distribution chart. There are 30 players on that list that are listed as Juniors or Seniors.

Of the 30, these are the ones who are out for the season:

Washington
IGC
Johnson

These are the ones who are recovering from injury, but should be back:

Sims
Reimer
Buford
Singleton

The other 23 are read to go for Northwestern and maybe some of the 4 recovering.

But what occurred to me is that as opposed to many previous years, all 30 of the players are contributors, either starters or players who play a lot (Sims too). Rhule didn't even take one year to craft the team of older players who are basically contributors only. In fact, we only have 6 starters who are sophomores or below, and the freshmen are Coleman because of injury and Alvano. I looked back at the 2017 roster and we had 10 Jr./Sr. players who were non-contributors. It looks like the new regime has no more players like Sedrick King, Peyton Newell, Vaha Vainuku, or Donovan Vestal.

With 26 plus recruits/transfers coming in to replace 10 seniors, it gives me encouragement that these guys may not be f***ing around on personnel.

How will this team look after the bye week?

I suspect we’ll rep the option a lot and throw in some run game wrinkles.

I’m hoping for a lot of reps for the young receivers.

Hopefully get people healed up.

One thing is for sure is we have a competent staff that is going to have this team better than they were before the bye.

No improvement for OL but we could see some marginals gains elsewhere.

Immediate impact recruits

Looking through who we have verbally committed for the 2024 class, who do you see as players who will make an instant impact for next season. Think along the lines of Lenhardt and Princewell for this season.

I honestly struggle to see many of the kids we have committed slotted to earn significant playing time early in next year's season.

QB
-I don't see Kaelin getting much playing time next year

RB
-Lacy is probably set up the best in this class for an early opportunity at playing time. Grant and Fleeks graduate, Irvin and Johnson are coming off season ending injuries, and Emmit J hasn't flashed much this season.

WR
-There is plenty of opportunity for a freshman to contribute with some key departures but are the incoming recruits physically ready to contribute at the next level? I feel like you could see 1-2 kids in this class earn some playing time if they commit themselves to honing the skill set and getting their bodies ready to play. We desperately need someone to take the top off of the defense and provide a downhill threat, who fills that role?

TE
-Carter Nelson will need a year to reach the weight required to be a proficient in line blocker. He could see some time split out but it's a massive jump from 8 man football to FBS. I (hope) Ingwerson moves to tackle which will be a multi year transformation. I don't see Flynt beating out who we currently have on the roster.

OL
-Sadly I don't see any of these kids ready to see significant snaps next season. Plus we have not rotated much on the offensive line this season. The position needs help, hopefully from the portal.

DL
-Can Jones earn playing time over Princewell, Lenhardt, or Van Poppel? If so, things look bright for his future as all three are excellent looking players.

LB
-McGahee has the pedigree and measurables but does he have the drive to want to beat out the current upper classmen?

DB
-Off all those kids committed, someone has to step up and fill in. We lose Brown and Newsome to graduation. Who will it be?

So with all that said, I guess as of now when I look at the current committed players I really only see one player (Lacy) who will "probably" earn significant reps at the onset of the season and possibly 1-2 others at either WR or DB.

Do you agree? Too high/low?

Furthermore, is that enough to get Nebraska to the next step?

NIL the way to titles

Reading about stoops gripping about Georgia and Smart buying the best players through NIL it is an interesting read. While I hate what NIL has done to college football I can't blame kids going for the big dollars. What I can't wrap my head around is why Nebraska is lacking in the NIL payout wars.

I think it's a shame that Nebraska with it's huge fan and alumni backing hasn't made a bigger impact. So the question is what is allowed as far as the common fan contributing to funds to buy these star players through NIL. I will say it again I don't like what NIL has done to amateur athletics but until and if it can changed I would hope there would be a way to level the playing field.

Until we can be on par with the Georgia's, Alabama's, Michigan's, and etc" etc" of college football regarding NIL payments we may never rise high enough sadly. I know not all will agree with this post and that's O.K. but I would like to hear from those that understand the in's and out's of NIL.

I found this and it explains NIL and Nebraska role better but doesn't explain why Nebraska is lagging behind.

Nebraska passed a Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) law for their colleges and institutions on July 24th, 2020. This law allows intercollegiate student-athletes to earn compensation for the use of their NIL 1. The law further states that no postsecondary institution shall uphold any rule, requirement, standard, or limitation that prevents a student-athlete from fully participating in an intercollegiate sport for such postsecondary institution because such student-athlete earns compensation for the use of such student athlete’s name, image, or likeness rights or athletic reputation. No collegiate athletic association shall penalize a student-athlete or prevent a student-athlete from fully participating in an intercollegiate sport because such student-athlete earns compensation for the use of such student athlete’s name, image, or likeness rights or athletic reputation. No collegiate athletic association shall penalize a postsecondary institution or prevent a postsecondary institution from fully participating in an intercollegiate sport because a student-athlete participating in an intercollegiate sport for such postsecondary institution earns compensation for the use of such student-athlete’s name, image, or likeness rights or athletic reputation. No postsecondary institution shall allow compensation earned by a student-athlete for the use of such student-athlete’s name, image, or likeness rights or athletic reputation to affect the duration, amount, or eligibility for or renewal of any athletic grant-in-aid or other institutional scholarship 1.

The Nebraska NIL law became effective on July 1st, 2021 1. As per the law, any student-athlete who enters into a contract that provides compensation for the use of such student-athlete’s name, image, or likeness rights or athletic reputation shall disclose such contract to an official of the postsecondary institution for which such student-athlete participates in an intercollegiate sport. The official to which such contract shall be disclosed shall be designated by each postsecondary institution 1.

OT: The Will Smith Slap......

I have long said that was a stunt that backfired big time (For Smith). Not sure the reason behind it, but this article absolutely seals the deal for me:

Football Rhule's stern message to Anthony Grant: You can't keep fumbling the ball and think you're going to play

Rhule talked Anthony Grant and the running back's ball security issues today. Here's more:

Great stuff from Bekka Allick and Lindsay Krause who I felt really gave a good pulse of the team as they come back from a four-game road trip. Hit the link.

Redshirt Numbers?

We would need to play 3 more games until they can play without burning it. Am I missing someone on special teams? Bootle played in three games but is now out for the year. Lefotu is showing he has played in 2 games so far. Seems like there are only three at this time...
