Looking through who we have verbally committed for the 2024 class, who do you see as players who will make an instant impact for next season. Think along the lines of Lenhardt and Princewell for this season.
I honestly struggle to see many of the kids we have committed slotted to earn significant playing time early in next year's season.
QB
-I don't see Kaelin getting much playing time next year
RB
-Lacy is probably set up the best in this class for an early opportunity at playing time. Grant and Fleeks graduate, Irvin and Johnson are coming off season ending injuries, and Emmit J hasn't flashed much this season.
WR
-There is plenty of opportunity for a freshman to contribute with some key departures but are the incoming recruits physically ready to contribute at the next level? I feel like you could see 1-2 kids in this class earn some playing time if they commit themselves to honing the skill set and getting their bodies ready to play. We desperately need someone to take the top off of the defense and provide a downhill threat, who fills that role?
TE
-Carter Nelson will need a year to reach the weight required to be a proficient in line blocker. He could see some time split out but it's a massive jump from 8 man football to FBS. I (hope) Ingwerson moves to tackle which will be a multi year transformation. I don't see Flynt beating out who we currently have on the roster.
OL
-Sadly I don't see any of these kids ready to see significant snaps next season. Plus we have not rotated much on the offensive line this season. The position needs help, hopefully from the portal.
DL
-Can Jones earn playing time over Princewell, Lenhardt, or Van Poppel? If so, things look bright for his future as all three are excellent looking players.
LB
-McGahee has the pedigree and measurables but does he have the drive to want to beat out the current upper classmen?
DB
-Off all those kids committed, someone has to step up and fill in. We lose Brown and Newsome to graduation. Who will it be?
So with all that said, I guess as of now when I look at the current committed players I really only see one player (Lacy) who will "probably" earn significant reps at the onset of the season and possibly 1-2 others at either WR or DB.
Do you agree? Too high/low?
Furthermore, is that enough to get Nebraska to the next step?
