Positives from today…..

In no particular order:

1. FG kicking. If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised than I am right now.

2. Defense, especially vs the run. The line realty did control the line of scrimmage.

3. Raiola’s legs. Definitely added an element to our offense we haven’t seen since Colorado. Hope he keeps it up (and doesn’t get hurt, of course)

All in all, much improved from last Saturday and hopefully a tone setting game for the rest of the season.

I know this sounds like a conspiracy theory, but...

It seems the officials this year, and to some degree, last couple of years, have interjected themselves into the games and are deciding the outcomes of the games. Last night I watched the officials give the shaft to VT by having to 2 TD's nullified, taken off the board that kept VT from winning. One on a bogus holding call, the second on overturning a TD catch. The officials in the Wash, Rutgers game made many calls favoring Rutgers and stopping Washington drives. I have lost count on how TD's have been called back this year on penalties everytime a team scores on a long play. If the favored team is behind the 8 Ball, the officials bail them out on a regular basis.

One last rant: When will college football and the NFL adopt the XFL's process for reviewing plays? The XFL had two LARGE screens, and officials reviewing every play live in a booth. If there was a problem, they would stop play, have the decision in about 15 seconds, and play would resume. It was interesting listening to the reviewers talk through the process and explain it to the field judge. The officials on the field DO NOT need to be behind the microscopic screen watching reviews (probably porn clips) taking 5-10 minutes to make an effin decision. The game flowed smoother and faster, if they needed more time to view a play they would stop play until a decision was made, but that happened rarely. The NCAA and NFL are prehistoric in making changes to improve the quality of play. Personally, I think instant replay needs to be removed unless a flag is thrown and then you have 45 seconds to decide the outcome. If it takes longer than that, the play stands.

I'm done for now, thanks.

So, what are your plans after halftime tomorrow?

I HOPE I'm watching the 2nd half but if the game gets way out of our grasp it's too painful for me to watch live.

I'll probably switch to watching another, hopefully more competitive, game and check in on the Huskers occasionally.

I have some leaf screens in my gutter that blew out during the last high wind we had in Lincoln. It's about time I fixed those.

It is a 4 game season

I didn’t take much from the blowout against Indiana. Blowouts don’t bother me as much as others. I don’t take much from a close loss to Ohio State. I have seen that movie before. I care about wins and loses. Not the margin. Absolutely no reason they shouldn’t win 2 more games. That is 7 wins and about what I expected. Anything over that I will be very happy. Just 1 more win, it will be disappointing. Lose out and it is a disaster. For what it is worth, I think they win 2 more. But I can’t tell you which two.
