Holgerson N (formerly known as: "Holgerson soon to be named OC")

great call, @redwine65. you were right and i'm ecstatic you were!
He’s added as a consultant. Not the OC. We already knew Rhule was bringing in a consultant. I won’t be surprised if Satt is out and Holgerson takes over as OC after the season, but he’s not the OC yet.

Welcome, "Outside Eyes"!

Satt as OC---subpar;
Satt as TE coach---subpar;
McGuire WR coach----subpar;
Barthel RB coach---subpar;
Foley ST coach---subpar.
Some might say Raiola as OL coach----subpar.

That's half the staff. If 1/2 half of your staff is subpar, that's a bad coaching "staff."

Then you combine that with 3 games the defense couldn't get the ball away from the opposing offenses, N Iowa, Illinois, UCLA and there you have it.
I might be the only guy who likes the job Barthel is doing. As an old RB I see improvement in our backs, their ball security, pass pro and how hard they run. He has a stud high schooler committed right now. I just think our offensive problems start and maybe end with Satterfield. It’s pretty damned tough to accurately assess the position coaches with such incompetent game planning and play calling from your OC. None of the offensive staff has worked with Satt before unless Thomas had a year of overlap sometime.

I guarantee Tom could have won 9-10 games with these assistants. The weak link is Satterfield and unfortunately I don’t think Rhule has ever called plays on offense. Play calling is a unique skill that Satterfield clearly lacks.

no problem,

I'm not claiming to be nostrodomus, he was some quack...I just use logic and reason when decisions are to be made

HC/Rhule, OC/Holgerson, DC/White....I like the looks of that....then we just need to focus on the special teams issue...
it's best when folks know their craft..like Milt as oline coach not hc, or McBride as dc not hc...sometimes you can get too many cheifs and not enough warriors.
Props to you. Husker radio did confirm DH is in Lincoln as a consultant (OC probably)

Welcome, "Outside Eyes"!

"Good" coaching staffs don't have teams shoot their wad the first half of the season against 4 out of 6 mostly pud teams, then go backwards the second half of the year for 2 straight years.
We played really bad teams until we hit average teams in Illinois and Rutgers and a really good team in Indiana. I expressed concern about both sides of the ball early and often. I don’t think we’ve regressed. I think we are what we are. We actually played very well against a very good OSU team and ran into a WAY under valued UCLA team. UCLA has a legit front 7 on D and their coordinators are very good. We’re a mediocre team with a freshman QB who is banged up and shell shocked.

I blame Satterfield for the vast majority of the entire team’s problems. Those 3 passes and out drives early in games are killers. White’s defense for whatever reason doesn’t start well but he usually adjusts at least. It’s just a frustrating inconsistent deal on D. Offense is consistently a mess.
