Nebraska Football Is Fun Again!!

I think knowing how leadership works at companies I work with it's likely Dannon identifying a problem and telling Rhule to fix it. Rhule likely asked for resources aka money and picked the person.

If Dannon has to manage Rhules roster directly he's not going to keep him. It's a waste of university resources and not his job.
it's beyond obvious!

if @SomedayHusker wasn't unemployable he'd know a little something about this

Nebraska Football Is Fun Again!!

I think it’s just as likely to be either one and we’ll never know. To assume Rhule had nothing to do with it, Dana took over our entire team and give Rhule zero credit for a big win perfectly illustrates why OP is laughed out of here.

Matt Rhule saved Nebraska football

MR said he would do anything needed to get to a bowl game. Any decent coach ALWAYS seeks counsel and advice. In the end, no matter how it happened, MR made the decision to start a new OC. From what I can see and what I heard, even the announcers saying it over and over, DH simplified the playbook, perhaps without changing any major philosophy. QB DR was thinking too much, as were others. They definitely played faster and sharper, but maybe that was partly on Wisky. Breaking 40 points, points (sorry) to a visible change on the field of play. From what I saw today, DH also added certain savvy to the play calling. He was already known for keeping the defense off balance, and today it showed. He seemed to set up plays better, he seemed to take advantage of players strengths (and therefore probably avoid weaknesses), he did seem since last week willing to call out players pretty vocally and they responded positively. Some posted here he was brutally honest, but I have never EVER met a FB coach who wasn't. The job requires it. I also think he seemed to make the game more fun. Now I can't prove any of this, its what I observed, and many here have other opinions. In the end though, give credit where its due; MR made the change and gets the credit.

I don't believe in curses in sports, but we certainly have been snakebit. Perhaps psychological or more likely coaching, because we have steadily recruited better than many of our foes. Next week if we lose to Iowa, everyone here will be depressed again, pointing fingers and citing curses. Seems silly to me, but I am getting old. I do think we've been a bit conservative in selecting HCs because we certainly have the moola for a home run hire. That judgement remains to be seen with MR, but I always give the benefit of the doubt and believe in sticking by our choices. Can MR take us to the promised land, perhaps. Its a step by step process. So while many here touted the portal for the success of both CU and Indiana, they both lost today, so which "way" is better remains to be seen. Odds were on our side for many decades, and its hard when the decades bite back. I have considered Wisky to be a little red child of big red football, with Alvarez and similar colors and styles, but enough of losing to them. Today got that monkey off our back, and I hope Iowa pays next.

GBR!!

look at Dannen's hires

he's the exact guy you'd want to rebuild your reputation under.
What am I missing? He hired Willie Fritz at Tulane, who had a couple of great years after quite a lot of mediocre years. So Dannen displayed a bunch of patience, great I'm a fan. He hired Fisch at UW - jury still out but likely a good hire. He's a solid AD. Dana Holgorsen didn't hitch his wagon to Troy Dannen, he hitched it to Matt Rhule.
