The secondary

One can hope I guess. I'm glad it hasn't taken DH 11 games to get guys playing better ...

Holgerson was what this Offense needed and was mentioned that I heard when I rewatched the recording of it after I got home from the game said that this was still Rhule playnook and this was his vison of his offense and Holgerson just tweeked a few things. Holgerson's attitude is what this offense needed as well, as they played yesterday with his attitude! Rhule wanted Holgerson last December and timing couldn't have been worse as he freshly in the unemployment line and needed to decompress along with what I think prevented it as well was his buyout. Now imagine what this offense woulda looked like now if he had been here through winter conditioning and the Spring game where we's be. 10-1 or 11-0

Bowl Game

Hypothetical.
Say NU loses to Iowa and then goes to a bowl and loses again and finishes 6-7.

Is that progress?
You have to squint more to recognize progress in that scenario. At the very least, the fans and players get to experience a bowl game. Considering the drought, that’s still an emotional win/release. 15 practices is a good thing. But there are other factors beyond our final W-L record.

How did we look in those last 2 losses?
Is Dana still the OC?
Other coaching changes?
How did the HS class finish?
Did the portal help or hurt us? How much?

These answers could make us feel better about 6-7, or feel worse about 8-5

Where has this offense been?

Bad OC and nontruthful coaches. Holgorsen comes in and says RBs you gotta hit the hole harder and WRs you're embarrassing. Amazing how much better o line looks with RBs hitting the hole better . Lack of 5 swing passes in a row doesn't hurt either .

Rhule looked lost on the sideline today. Holgorsen totally has it under control
Bottom line. In a game, which "most" people felt going into was 2 subpar offenses with above average defenses that would result in a 20ish type score to win the game.

So, we are in a 7-7 tie IN THE FIRST QUARTER and we are already out of our challenge, and with a minute to go we have ONE time out left....in the first quarter!!

Maybe Rhule's in game mental freeze ups account for the fact ever team of his has always lost 3-4 games a year. We'll leave the "difference maker" head coach moniker in late game situations to the Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Barry Switzer, Tom Osbornes of the world. Not the Matt Rhules'.

I still say, since he was a walk on, as a player he was never exposed to real stress in tight games and it affects his ability to function mentally when the heat is on. JMO.

First of all, I like Matt, I just think he's really overrated as a head coach. If he was as good as some people think he is, he wouldn't have found himself in this desperate situation in the first place.

Yes, NU can get a different OC, but I doubt many of them can come in and completely revise an offense in 2 weeks as Dana has demonstrated. How many of them are gonna have the balls to call out players and by implication their position coaches?

I resent the fact you think I have "hate" for Matt. I've only criticized his "elite" bullshit, some of his overstatements and overestimations of some current and former players, i.e. SIms, that have proven to be bullshit, but I haven't personally attacked him like a few others on here. He talks too much before players have proven it on the field.

Now, continue on with your hate fest with kong.
Rhule needs to quit using “elite” and “he’s an NFL talent”. If you’re going to use those terms they need to be guys like Suh.

If we beat Iowa Friday

It is a major missed opportunity because we have a very stout defensive line, and defensively(outside of the Indiana game--caused by 5 turnovers) we are a top 15 defense. Imagine having an offense as well that could ball control and manage field position and we might have had a top 10 defense. We have an elite qb, he plays much older than he is, we have been remarkably healthy, we obviously have two good backs, a good stable of wrs and a very friendly schedule. We could be 10-1 right now, should have 8 or 9 wins with the possibility of 10. The fact that the head coach had to fire his friend who has some of the worst analytics in the sports over his career just to get us to score more than 30 in a game means the season should be viewed as a disappointment. I don't really care, but I do feel for the kids...this could have been a special season if Rhule would have taken the job seriously.

The real downside is we lose our defense next year, hopefully not our coach and we have no guarantee of keeping DH, he may not even want to coach. This was the "spike" season, where you get 9-11 wins, next year with schedule will be the "dip"..unless we can buy some really high quality defensive lineman.
We have real high quality D lineman. Keona Davis (STUD), Lenhardt, Van Poppel, Jamari Butler, Elijah Jeudy, James Williams. If you can get a stud transfer great, but we have high cieling guys on the roster. Lots of young wr talent too. LB, check. DBs NEEDED.

The secondary

This is his 1st year and had he been here for winter conditioning and the spring game, the secondary would be light years from where they are now. New cat, new way of teaching and Butler's teaching is far Coopers was. Butler's teaching pro style techniques with a pro style scheme and our safties are running in 2 different schemes at the same time. Cooper just resigned back in July and Butler got here the 1st part of August and didn't even have a full month with them the before the 1st game and kinda hard to pick up a new scheme/s on the fly no matter haow good a player or players are. Next year, the secondary will be light years better!

IF Dana stays, the majority of the offensive staff needs to go. They've had 2 springs, 2 falls and 20 ballgames to prove their worth. They didn't all just magically start coaching better in the last 2 weeks. Its all because of the Dana influence on the entire unit.

If Dana leaves, this will be the same old sad sack of shit coaching staff as we've become accustomed to. And Rhule will be headed down the road in a couple of years.
On the other hand, look what Dana has done with those assistants in 3 weeks. Maybe Dana wants changes or maybe Dana thinks he can work with the guys we already have.

Where has this offense been?

Hypothetical....
Say the Huskers beat Iowa and a bowl opponent and finish 8-5.

What you think NU's record "could" have been had DH came to the rescue after the Indiana blowout?

Losses to OSU, UCLA, and USC? I highly doubt it, probably win 2 of those 3 and could have finished this year 10-3?

Has little to do with the Head Coach and 9 other coaches, and everything to do with Dana.
Totally agree, I get the feeling some don't understand, how offensive play calling can keep a defense on their heels. If you have a quarterback who also can read the defense can look like a completely different team with the same offense. I was thinking how sad for the players because I feel we would have had a chance at considerably more wins.
