The next OC

Who is out there?

It could be somebody in the NFL who’s willing to move to college to make a name for himself. It’s risky, because it’s an experiment that could end in one and done. Probably have to pay 2, million and guarantee three years. Not a lot of money for the right guy..

The big question is whether or not we think the Raiola experiment is worth continuing. he’s basically our franchise quarterback, and that scares the crap out of me. Sitting the $2 million man is not a good look when the guys behind him are unproven as well . His style of quarterbacking is out of vogue. it basically went away with Tom Brady. The last two alive are probably Kirk cousins and Joe Flacco. He’s zero threat to pick up first down with his feet. I think we are ****ed. Having a hard time imagining a scenario where this really turns around, unless you commit to throwing it fewer than 20 times per game and just running downhill.

Who Should We Have Hired?

If we are being honest, that list kind of sucks, right? Not a real clear, good choice.
Yeah let’s go through it:

Lance Leipold: beats ranked teams. probably worse without his OC, still played Illinois closer than we did

Klieman: does a lot with shit talent, already had a conference championship under his belt and may add another this year

Luke Fickell: set to be 2-0 against Rhule

Deion: 1-1 against Rhule, would probably crush him if played today

Aranda: accomplished more with Rhule’s talent than Rhule ever could

Jamey Chadwell: who knows? too much of a pussy to coach P4

Bielema: obviously better than Rhule, not even a debate

So yeah, Rhule is quite literally the worst one.

Who Should We Have Hired?

So now that we're almost 2 years in and with all the "fire everyone" talk, hindsight being 20/20, who should we have hired? I included what I remember to be the realistic, most thrown around names. Assuming we weren't getting Saban, Urban, the ghost of Bob Devaney, etc. And guys like Cignetti weren't on anyone's radar.
The balls deep move would’ve been Deboer.

Who Should We Have Hired?

That’s one of the issues I have with the posters who where most vocal about not hiring Rhule. They were all propping up guys like LL, Klieman, and Fickell. Hard to say any of them would have us on track either.

We need a different, better approach. An identity and a competitive advantage.

Tony White has a Back 7 problem

So deservedly a lot of discussion about the offensive execution, but good lord, from my seat in the south stadium, this defense has issues now that the competition has improved. Of the 20 DB’s on the roster, they can’t find just 3 suitable backups for the injured starters? Charles was awful, IMO, believe he got pulled before end of first half. S and LBs either look like they overrun the play or fail to wrap up when they seem to be in position to make the tackle. DL no longer can win the line of scrimmage when faced against decent athletes on the OL. Princewell and Williams now MIA.
I know it isn't 2006 but we had a secondary back then with nary a single guy who could make a play on the ball, we went the whole season without any or many pass breakups and few true interceptions.(won 8 games with a good front 4) The front 4 normally has to get pressure with 4, if they don't every secondary will suffer. But, we gave up 21 to OSU, should have won with defense, gave up 24 to Illinois in regulation, gave up 20 to Ucla, 14 to Rutgers....the defense is fine. Those should all be good enough to win with our talent. The secondary is also one of the only positions that has had sustained injuries, what are the excuses for literally every other position... most teams are devastated this time of year across the team...our WRs, QBs, RBs, Dline, Lb have been mostly healthy. And oline could be hit harder. Its crazy to think we started off with 5 straight home game cupcakes, got OSU before PSU, our QB was healthy through all of it and we are still looking at 5-6.

Who Should We Have Hired?

Obviously Klieman, but you have to hire his AD to get him.

The good thing is we have a chance at coaches with a similar pedigree like Vigen.
Kielman politely turned Tren down when it appeard that Rhule was out with panthers owner issues. LL lost his OC and went to shit and Fickle will have to beat us again to get bowl eligible in year2 Not sure how long Wisky will settle for that. So not a great list.

Anybody fired yet

I doubt if the word "fired" is used with any possible coaching departures. We might hear "We've decided to go in a different direction" or "We wish coach X well as he leaves & accepts another position." I also think Rhule is a class act in trying to find any released coaches a job at another program.

I really hate that we might be looking at another postseason of no bowl game and wondering if our HC is going to make some drastic changes or stubbornly stick with his guys.

Rhule must make changes TONIGHT

I want to defend Garrett McGuire. It's very easy to look bad when you are coaching under the wrong coordinator. But given the poor performance, horrible blocking effort and technique of these receivers, it looks like some of those receivers don't even respect him. Those receivers are playing at a level that will get their position coach fired.
Aaron Murray had been calling out our wrs since week one against UTEP. Garret McGuire should not be a position coach at this level. He's in over his head
