Yant

So it's important to maintain authority over the players, at all cost... even if you're one of the worst head coaches in the league..

If I was Yant's best friend, I'd tell him to leave and find a better coaching staff that didn't treat him this way in the first place and put him in situations to succeed, not place him in situations to fail.

It works two ways man.. just because some bozo is the head coach doesn't make him right.

You sound like a shitty friend, because that is some garbage life advice.

disagree.. you can't go through life just 'accepting' some authority that shouldn't exist in the first place.

The kid doesn't deserve to be treated like crap and put in bad situations. He's in charge of his own career. Signing up to play football doesn't make him the coaches slave. He isn't owned by the staff.

But of course you think like 90% of the other sheep out there and would never look at things from a different perspective.

Being second string isn't being treated like crap. Not getting as many carries as you want isn’t some injustice. Just throwing a fit and quitting when things don’t go exactly like you want isn’t getting you anywhere in life. And that is what you are advocating here.

Sure coaches make mistakes, but if you have insubordination on your team and just let it go, you're going to lose respect from your players. You already lost the kid who refused to go into the game and now other players are going to call bullsh*t if Yant remains on the team. And I'm sorry but I don't see any special talent in Yant. If he had his head screwed on straight, he would be a good prospect but that isn't the case.

Frost has already lost respect from his players, at least those whom can think independently.

I do understand your line of thinking and agree with it, when the situation is ‘normal’ and not turned upside down, which is how I see the current situation.

Our attrition rate isn’t high. It’s like middle of the pack in the conference. To date I can think of maybe two players that have left and been successful somewhere else. Transfers are part of the game and losing a couple backup RB’s isn’t unusual.
the problem is not necessarily that there are RB's leaving...it's that the recruiting at that position has been incredibly weak and lack of development of those weak recruits (this applies to almost every position on the team also).

I disagree. Say what you want about the team choking games away, but those guys keep playing their tails off. You don’t do that for a coach you don’t respect.

do not believe he should be the judge on authority. please provide facts on where this player has been treated unfairly? maybe he has a attitude issue.

Starting with multiple kids coming back for a sixth year and continuing through the effort on the field, there is no evidence to support this claim.
multiple kids coming back on defense for a sixth year.. on offense, we have had either starters leave, or others at skill positions transfer out every year so far.

I didn't see any loss of respect from the players on any of the last three game days. I understand that you look through a different pair of glasses than most people. Maybe you should try concave lenses instead of convex.

see, this is precisely the issue.. it's not my glasses, it's yours, and many of the others on this board.

I told everyone this was going to happen with AM, 4 years ago.. and got blasted for it from all you 'experts'.

I give up trying to explain things to you people, and frankly, most of you don't deserve the insight to begin with.

Since I joined in early September, I think I've been aligned with the majority of your thinking.

On a public board, there will always be the bleeding heart liberals, and those toe a lot harder line.

I wanted Frost gone, made no bones about it. Same with Mario, Held, and especially Austin. They threw in Lubick, so I got part of what I thought would help this program move forward, just not the big fish, who is really the big problem.

Was calling for changes in the OL from Day 1. Some of those happened, through no action of mine, and things got better until that key injury to Teddy sent it backwards.

Now there will be a new OL coach. Hopefully he will see that NU has kids totally out of position on the OL and make some changes, If not, it will be the same weak link in the entire offense once again. If those same 5 play, the running game will blow and that's all there is to it.

I've gotten so sick of just watching this shit show on offense for the season and the entire Frost regime, I really don't care if they succeed or fail, cause if SF is in charge, it wll be a goat rope.

So, I'll watch the game Friday, not concerned with a win or loss, just looking to turn the page on this lousy season. We'll see in a few weeks who comes on board, and if that looks positive or yuck.

I thought he was our most talented back and blame Scott Frost for how the backs have been used/not used/mismanaged etc this year.

If he refused to go it, it was for a reason.. something else happened where the refusal was his response to something else.

I'm all for discipline on the team and stuff, but agree with others that there is a problem with the way the players are managed and treated, and it all seems to come back to Scott.

I'm more angry at Scott than I am at any of the players.

I don't think Scott manages this well, because we end up with the situation where the good talent leaves, and the remaining talent is worse.

Not exactly the right formula or recipe for success.
I get the feeling that Frost wants the team to grow and lead each other...but the foundation has never been set properly. It sounds crappy to say but the team needs to be babied and led in everything until the success comes. Frost is used to being around teams who have a strong culture already set. His offense can do some interesting stuff with really great players but that's being idealistic instead of realistic.

The best move he can make is to move into the CEO role and let someone else handle the offense. The small details are completely AWOL and he could take the next step if he realized what needs to be done.

Having said that...I don't know if he is mature enough as a HC to do it.

Wouldn't shock me if he gets let go next year and goes on to learn from a great HC and become a great HC himself.

You'll know if he takes that step when we stop hearing constant excuses and he thinks about what he sayd before he says it. All jokes aside...they really are close.. but the scoreboard still matters.

Yessssh, do you realize how bad this sounds?

I’ll say it again… coaching beef aside, not going into a game when asked ultimately means he let his teammates down. Perhaps he took a stand against Frost, and it may have even been justified. That being said, you’ll have a hard time convincing me that the rest of the team that was still trying to win the game appreciated the fact that he put himself first at that point in time. Wrong time to do it.
Best response itt.

As much as I wish Gebbia had stayed, he didn't get "jerked around". IF he had got over his butthurt he shortly would have been starting after Adrian got hurt and had a chance to prove on Saturdays that he deserved to keep the job. Instead he walked. That's on him.
Actually dingle, he did get jerked around by Frost. That is a fact. If you set the metrics on who will be the starter based on one thing, then change it, you jerked him around. Period. Especially after you tell a kid they will find out PERSONALLY by the staff who the named starter will be, only for that kid to find out from other players that the starter was already named before the coaches talked to him, I don't blame him for being pi$$ed.

This all being said, Yant is wrong here, not Frost. Regardless of how he perceived himself as being slighted by Frost. You are asked to help your team win, you do whatever is asked of you in a game time situation. Poor optics for your teammates to see you refuse to go in because you are mad at your HC.

You were able to foresee that 4 years into the future this team would play a number of very good teams very close and we would somehow have a very good shot to win, but lose all of them? If you could foresee this, please provide more insight... like what stock should we buy and hold for the next 4 years?

Disagree. Gabe Irvin, Johnson, Scott and Sevion were really good signees. Held just didn’t know how to make them better.

notice... I did say "lack of development". A weak recruit can become great if he can be developed in the correct way.

I think everyone would agree with you if they looked at it like this...

You start your career and your boss sucks, you don't know this at first. but as time goes on you realize that your boss is not really the mentor you have hoped he would be and in fact seems to be hurting your chances at progressing in the company. One of your good friends works at a different place and loves, and he asks you if you are interested in joining his company.

The problem is, so many fans look at NU as this magical place. But you get 4-5 years to play college ball and then it is gone forever. If you don't think you are getting what you want out of it, you need to look around.

I would ask this, how many of the posters here are still working at their first ever job?
