Yant

I think everyone would agree with you if they looked at it like this...

You start your career and your boss sucks, you don't know this at first. but as time goes on you realize that your boss is not really the mentor you have hoped he would be and in fact seems to be hurting your chances at progressing in the company. One of your good friends works at a different place and loves, and he asks you if you are interested in joining his company.

The problem is, so many fans look at NU as this magical place. But you get 4-5 years to play college ball and then it is gone forever. If you don't think you are getting what you want out of it, you need to look around.

I would ask this, how many of the posters here are still working at their first ever job?
I don’t like comparing playing on a sports team and comparing it to working on a F’ing job…

Well of course not but all we hear from coaches all the time is how they have to be business like and prepare for it like a job and a road game is a business trip.

The fact is, you get 4-5 years to play CFB, then it is gone forever.

Is there nothing you wish you could have done differently in HS or college?

I am not saying that leaving is the best option for the kid, I am just saying that he has that option and has to do what he thinks is best for him. The same as Frost has to do what he thinks is best.

What a ridiculous analogy. You are acting like this was some kind of well thought out plan, it was a kid throwing a fit and making immature decisions. The kid refused to play when called upon. He didn’t leave for a better opportunity after the season. He pouted and threw a fit because he was sad.

If you insist on putting this through the filter of the real world. It would be like being hired for a job (by a boss that took a chance on you when no one else would btw), getting a promotion and then walking out during the work day when asked to perform a task. Then going home and pouting for two days. In that scenario, it is all on you and you would be very dam lucky to still have a job at all.

Sure and then you would go find a new job, right?

Which is what he may or may not do...so thank you for agreeing with me.

Also, I think we both used a simile , since we used "like"

I find it hard to believe that a modern day prop 48 kid whose over came academic issues and then weight issues would give up and quit when he finally started having a little success from all the hard work.

I do see where this can be a situation where our large, strong fan base can overhype a player making that player believe he’s an All-Pro level of a talent. We did it with countless of QBs (Beck, Dukes, Gebbia, Stanton) and when they weren’t Patrick Mahomes, they transferred out do to buying into their own hype and disbelieving the coaching.

Yant is going to be a beast. But he has yet to show things in the passing game to make us believe he is a featured back. Argue the “no block no rock” all you want at WR, but you have to have that mentality @ RB. If you can’t pick up a blitz you can’t be a workhorse. This is how Rhamir kept in the mix. Eventually he started developing as a runner more. JY will learn how to work a blitz. It will come but the fan base appointing him the next AP isn’t helping. It’s giving him an ego he can’t afford. I am a big fan of this back and I don’t want to see Husker fans screw him up by putting him on a pedestal.

We are not saying the same thing at all. You are advocating quitting on people. Walking out in the middle of the workday because of how you feel. That is a far cry from going and finding another job.

Stop making sense. More hyperbole please.

So you are saying he doesn't have the right to want to leave?

If you felt you were being treated badly at your job, would you leave it if you thought you could find something better?

If I wanted a different, better job I would go about it the right way. I would find a job, put in my notice when I know I’m leaving and continue to work hard for my employer until the last day. I certainly wouldn’t refuse to work and leave everyone else high and dry. Sad that you don’t see this.

And BTW not getting the PT you want is not being treated badly, it is part of being on a team.

How would you find that job? Would you perhaps be looking for that new job while on company time? So if Yant leaves after the season is over, is that okay?
My question is, why should it not be okay for him to want to leave? Can you answer that.

Apparently was told to go back in the OSU game and refused.
If that's true, it would be nice to know why.

But just a thought, sometimes there are good reasons why kids with his physical tools get no offers.

I am with you to a point. If I had a really good opportunity that not many others were willing to give me I might stick it out. And if I was fed up I certainly wouldn't refuse to do a job my boss asked me to do unless l already had another job lined up.

But of course he is 18 or so and probably doesn't think that way. His response was pretty immature. And we don't really know much more. It is easy to say Frost was the problem, but maybe Held was? Seems like Frost and Brown gave a bit of tough love. He is back and seems to have a new outlook.

Maybe we are better off without Held and with Yant.

We may know more tomorrow!

Oh my god, for sure. I would totally need to have something else lined up before I bolted.

I hope the kid stays and has an amazing career but I also get it if he wants to transfer, just like any student.

How is this so hard for you to understand? It is OK to want another job or another team. It is OK to give your notice and leave your job. If he did refuse to go in the game, that is not OK. And there are no mental gymnastics you can perform to make that kind or selfish decision making OK. It would not be OK to storm off in the middle of the work day, even if you don’t like your boss. There are right and wrong ways to handle things, like being unhappy at work. It seems like Mr. Yant is learning this. I hope someday you can learn it too.

You said the recruiting at rb has been weak. It hasn’t.
Correct. Weak isn’t a strong enough of a word for how bad recruiting has been at RB. Reggie Davis was arguably the worst/laziest recruiter in schools history. Held just kept trying to tread water. He went after reaches and bandages. Rhamir & Morrison were highly rated but offer list weren’t amazing.

So there has never been a reason for any worker to leave in the middle of the day, ever? Wow

Yes or no, is it okay for him to leave NU at the end of the season, that is the only thing I am saying, that it is 100% okay for him to leave at the end of the season.

Remember, NU will be taking a transfer QB this year, is that okay?

Frost just canned 4 dudes without giving letting them finish the season, is that okay?

He is going to try and hire 4 new dudes, all of whom probably have jobs currently, is that okay?

I am not saying it is okay for him to quit now, nor am I saying it was okay to not go into the game. I am saying it is okay for him to leave at the end of the season if he thinks that it is best for him.

Mental gymnastics means "I don't like what you are saying but I agree with it...but I can't bring myself to admit that"

I thought he was our most talented back and blame Scott Frost for how the backs have been used/not used/mismanaged etc this year.

If he refused to go it, it was for a reason.. something else happened where the refusal was his response to something else.

I'm all for discipline on the team and stuff, but agree with others that there is a problem with the way the players are managed and treated, and it all seems to come back to Scott.

I'm more angry at Scott than I am at any of the players.

I don't think Scott manages this well, because we end up with the situation where the good talent leaves, and the remaining talent is worse.

Not exactly the right formula or recipe for success.
Thr problem I have is this reminds me of the kid who gets in trouble at school, mommy doesn't really know what junior did but she is going to defend him.

We really do not know what has happened in all these situations but we do know, apparently, they are all Scott's fault.

This is a pretty solid take.

We'll probably never know what the locker room feels about what Yant is alleged to have done, but I would rely on that take more than what a coach, sports writer or fan thinks. The kids usually (not always, but usually) have a good perspective on these things.

This part bothers me. I'm not exempting Frost from culpability in anything that happens in the program, but neither do I subscribe to the knee-jerk obsession with blaming him for everything bad that happens in the program.

So you are now completely pivoting to a new argument. Of course any player can leave after the season. That is alot different than refusing to play and quitting in the middle of a game. Again there is a right way and a wrong way to do everything. You aren’t justified to make any selfish immature decision because of how you feel in that moment. That is a recipe for a very frustrating and unsuccessful life. These are life lessons kids his age need to learn. Thankfully he has coaches like Ron Brown to teach him a better way and not just people encouraging him to keep digging.

This was my first post on the topic. No pivoting at all. I don't mention anything about quitting right now, or saying it was okay to not go into the game when he was told to go in. How you can read what my first post said and disagree with it, when you are saying the same exact thing is crazy.

Let me ask, did Frost to it "the right way" when he fired his asst coaches during the season?

Fwiw, when I read your first post here, I thought you were defending his actions of not going in when called upon. I can see how headcard read it that way as well. If you were talking about end of season stuff, it didn’t come across that way to me. I guess it wasn’t super clear to all readers.

Gotcha...

I should have been clearer and maybe he should have asked.

Are you talking about Yant being immature by not playing when called upon or Frost being immature by throwing others under the bus after a loss?
