Would Frost ever run Osborne's offense?

I think a better question would be, what offense would TO run in today's game

I think TO's offense today would be closer to zone read.
Ozzie would have a few changes but not many. Why would he change something that ain't broken? And, yes, generally it would still work, given the right players (yes, probably easier said then done today). The thing that people seem to always miss when talking about TO's offense is that TO was a master at mixing play calls and always kept you guessing of what was coming next. Sure when he could line up and run it right at you and teams couldn't stop it, there wasn't a reason to get too fancy. In the zone read the QB is making a decision quickly as to hand off or keep the ball, with the option the decision (if the QB truly knows how to run the option) is made as the play is developing--that's the beauty of it and what makes it so hard to defend. Frost would definitely incorporate some of that old school offense if he came to Lincoln.

No, the kind of talent and mental makeup required to get that offense to perform at a high level is too hard to find....and kids dont want to play it.

I disagree, saying kids don't want to play it and it is too mentally difficult is ridiculous. Right coach, right staff, right recruiting.... hell for any team to play against. Go back and watch Tennessee game-- it's not like they lined up in wishbone and did triple option as everyone assumes

Swisticuffs way off as usual. Navy is creating an entire culture off of it. They are doing fine. Your posts are poopy Swiss. Go harder.

He could, but it is too predictable and without having the big uglies able to bully people like back in the day, it's a offense that was left in the past. He could also just implement some in here and there, but that offense is only really good when it is cemented in stone within the players via practicing those select few plays over and over and over. It's just not likely.

First time poster, and asking what i think is a legitimate question. I think Scott realizes that different places have different fits. He has coached under so many different mentors and styles of football. But wouldn't one think coming home, and the influence Osborne has had on him, lead him to the old playbook?
Thanks

No. Crazy people would even think it’s a possibility. It’s as likely as Nick Saban coming to coach here.

In don't think Frost comes in with any offensive style in concrete. Scott knows what worked when he was playing, and he's learned a lot since then with Chip. I think he would implement an offense that would WORK, whatever it ultimately looks like. What a concept, I know. This is generally contrary to every OC or HC we've had since TO.

It amazes me how TO's offensive style was known as one of the greatest. Yet we wouldn't dare try running that right? Because it wouldn't work? National commentators have been begging us to run it the last 10 years. It just burns me that we have the blueprint and the man right here yet we dont take advantage of it. He won't be around forever. This and hiring a athletic director that has never stepped foot in the state. And pay him a million on top of it. They don't know the patterns we've been through. What works, what doesn't. Why people give a standing ovation for a full back trap. I have totally turned into a 40 year old run the ball guy. Why? Because I've watched all of this other bs that's been run through here and it's a mesh of this and that. No one is tired in the 4th quarter when we played them and havent been since solich.

Funny.

Haha.. you must be joking right?? Get out of here with that take. Winning football teams run the ball and are physical. Kids today are as tough or tougher in the trenches and bigger and faster. My son and his friends play college football and will smack you in the mouth...

The Huskers offense playbook didn’t get burned in the transition from TO to Solich, Tom had a special feel for calling a game, used fewer plays/concepts and executed them to perfection after thousands of practice reps. The lines on paper mean nothing, it’s the people who lead and execute.

It's all about the offensive line. If they dominate, everything else is gravy.

Nebraska used to be "Offensive Line U." Unlike other schools, where the pretty boys were the stars, Nebraska fans knew and love their offensive linemen. Recruits, even those with family ties to other schools, were honored to be recruited by Nebraska, because they knew what its offensive line represented.

Despite not having a winner in 12 years, Nebraska still leads all schools with NINE Outland Trophy winners. Nearly double second-place Oklahoma. We need to get back to that. Fix that, and you fix Nebraska.

I guess we haven't learned anything on this board over the years.

ONLY T.O. can run his offense. There are imitators, but they are just that. Just saying we are going to line up the way he did and expect the same results is ridiculous.

I lived near Niobara NE for three months at a friend ranch. So I started following NU football. My older sister went to OU and my younger brother UT. Me USNA. I don’t have a dog in this fight. But how does anyone bring back the pipeline? Just asking not challenging.

Serious question, do they have long flowing Pussy boy hair like our oline? Minus jurgens and noulie

I couldn't tell ya how to bring it all back but we once had great pride in our offensive and defensive lines. That no longer exists and hasn't for awhile.

Prioritize recruiting the best lineman as possible. They are more important than skill players IMO. It doesn’t matter who you have at QB or how many 4-5 star wide receivers you have if you don’t have a good offensive line.

Osborne couldn't recruit the types of players needed to make his offense work in this day and age, aka, the Lawrence Phillips types. If you want to know why it wouldn't work in this day and age, just ask Art Briles how it worked for him at Baylor.
