It was on October 30, 1971. Our McCook Bison was in town to play Lincoln East that evening. Our coach, Milt Tenopir, talked the NW gate guys to let us in during the 3rd quarter. As soon as we entered, Jeff Kinney scored a touchdown and the crowd erupted. Little did we know we were watching the National Champions that year. I just remembered how all the players were super fast down on the field. We beat the Buffs that day, 31-7.

NU - OU. About 55 years ago.

On road …67 Mizzou… 7 or 8 more roadies before first home , which was:

‘78 OU

OH YEAH!

Probably about 70 years ago, 1952 or 1953.
I don't remember the opponent but I sat in the knothole section for $5 or $10.
We won.
Sorry for the memory lapse. I do remember listening to Husker games in the 40s on the radio.

2000 vs iowa state. Got my tickets from Hooters. Tickets where 90 rows up in the south west corner. Some sauced up cyclone fan got in a fight looked like the loosing end. Then escorted out by police.

My first trip to Memorial Stadium was to see Devaney's last team in 1972. He didn't win the title that year, but it was still like watching God pace the sideline.

1974 Missouri. Parents trusted me to drive my dad’s Buick from McCook to Lincoln with a buddy. Saw Steve Pisarkewicz come off the bench for Mizzou to beat the Huskers. (Missouri won in Lincoln in 74, 76 and of course 78). I remember they played Bad Company’s “Cant get enough of your love” to death on the radio the whole way. Sure as hell got enough of that song

You serious?

You guys are treasures.

Please share some of your memories with us, especially the things you remember that maybe arent talked about as much.

1972 NU vs OU Devaney’s last home game on Thanksgiving. Never attended less than 6 games/year until I dumped our family tickets prior to Riley’s last year.

I remember that name. In 76, my dad knew this guy with box seats and he took me to the game. Now that sounds great but they were ground level behind the bench. I was a kid and couldn't see much more than the backs of guys on the bench.
NU had Mizzou in trouble. We were ahead and had them backed up on their own two, the crowd was going nuts. Pete Woods hands off to the back and we bury him...but no, was a good fake. He winds up and throws an absolute bomb that seemed to these young eyes to hit the sun. On the other end is Mizzou's star reciever Joe Stewart. He halls it in and is being chased by All-American corner Dave Butterfield. He is trailing but not gaining ground and makes a last gasp effort laying it all out superman prostrate attempt. He gets nothing but air and to the horror of us all Stewart prances into the endzone. NU is demoralized, Mizzou, the giant killer strikes once again. They were vicious and dangerous in the 70s. Known for rising up big against the better teams. Nu was their THIRD top ten victim and that was only by mid-season. The beat Southern Cal and Ohio St. but sandwiched in between that was a loss to unranked Illinois.
They also beat two other teams ranked in the top 15. They actually finished the year 1-3 against unranked teams and 5-2 against ranked opponents.

Oregon to start the 1974 season.

I'm jealous of you folks who remember a specific first game and opponent. I can't.

My dad got season tickets sometime in the 60's. I also remember taking the bus to games as a kid with my friends. I'm frightened to think of how young we were at that time and I'm sure our parents had no clue where we were.

They used to open the south gates after the game had begun and just let us in. Certainly by halftime, if not earlier. That didn't last long, I suppose because the sellout streak had begun & seemed to be a continuing thing.

Some of my friends scaled the south fence a time or two and got into games.

I became a real fan in the 60's as a kid. We were playing some team in which we were favored but our opponent surprisingly battled all the way to the 4th Quarter before we pulled away late for the win.

I felt bad for them as I watched the opponent walking off the field, dejected. Fans at their exit rose and were politely applauding them as they walked off yelling, "You hold your heads up when you walk off this field!" and "Good game! You have nothing to be ashamed of!" I felt pretty proud we won and also showed such respect for our opponent.

Great memories!

1965 Oklahoma. And we won! Don't remember the score. I was only 7. Interesting act for young ones on here... I do not remember exactly when the tradition started of fans wearing mostly red to games, but in 1965 it was cold and most everybody had on blue or grey overcoats. Very little red in the stands.
